Jimma
I don't really understand what you mean by smog and humidity. Do the discs actually play ok? If they do I wouldn't recommend cleaning the inside of the discs. If they don't play and moisture has somehow got inside the shell of the disc, I would leave them somewhere warm like an airing cupboard overnight until they dry out and then try them again. If the surface of the disc itself is very dusty, you could try something like this to clean them. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RADIAL-MINI-DISC-CLEANER-/190930336191?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c7455b9bf I hope this helps:)
freddyjollo
I really wouldnt clean the insides of the disc as they have some kind of lubricant on the silver top surface so that the record head doesnt wear too much I think. Washing might remove this and in the long term damage your recorder capability
peter_x
I guess he means condensation. You should try opening the shutter so it dries out. Open it by using a second minidisc. Put the corner in the groove and push it open like so:http://rs43.pbsrc.com/albums/e354/peter_x/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_20150301_232430.jpg~320x480 You can also do this by inserting the disk halfway into a portable so the shutter starts to open and try to hold it back while taking the disc out. sfbp
The best tool by far for opening MD shutter is a paperclip with one arm bent straight. You'll figure out how to do it as soon as you work out how insertion into a deck or portable triggers the opening of the shutter.
slugbahr
My vote for best tool for opening is a nail file.
Jimma
The corner of a credit card is ideal:)
freddyjollo
I wonder if he is just noticing the lube on the top surface? in my mini disc ownership early days I took a load of minidiscs back to a hifi shop saying the top surface was scratched or some thing as you could see circular lines where the record head had on the top left marks ( in the maybe excessive lube)
