Guest Anonymous
I've lost the PC-MD cable that came with my mz-n505; can I just buy a USB A-B type cable to replace it (or a USB to camera cable, or something)? Sony's knowledgebase site advises me not to use any non-supplied cable with my MD, but they don't seem to sell replacements. I suspect they just want me to have to buy a whole new MD player, but I don't want to destroy my current one by using the wrong cable. Help if you can! cheers Spiff
maia
U can use any USB cable as long as it has the same endings, A-B that is. The "not use other cables other than Sony one" is BS, marketing
BerkY
Well its just an advice, you dont have to take it... Just as nokia says not to use no-name accesories like batteries, rechargers etc. cos batteries tend to explode for some reason. Weird, eh? It just wont be Sony quality thats all but it'll get the job done. Not really a big deal...
bertrik
The cable that came with my MZ-N510 has an 'A-connector' on one side (which goes into the PC). However, the connector on the other side of the cable is definitely not a 'B-connector'. So better check if your MZ-N505 really accepts a B-connector before buying an A-B type USB cable. mAjEsTiC
it's a small type of connector...kinda reminds me of the 4 -> 6 pin firewire cables...one end goes into the PC and the other into the peripheral...take a look at most of the USB connectors that ship with quite a lot of digital cameras...they have the same cable as the ones used on NetMD capable units...i think online retailers and some shops stock up on these but you have to check...and don't worry about the brand of the cable...i own a Sony digital camera and it shipped with a rebranded TDK USB cable...so not all Sony products use Sony accessories...=)

JeffS
I've got a 510, and the cable is pretty basic. it's a standard USB A to USB mini 5. It's a standard cable, but the jack format is more common today on smaller electronics (netmd,mp3,camera,pda,etc) There is also a Mini 4 but it looks different as well. Good luck -Jeff
