Just added a short essay to my blog. If anyone besides family might be interested, it would be you guys.

Here in Kathmandu, thanks to the complete lack of policing, music distribution is way ahead of the rest of world. Just take your flashdrive unit into the local music/video shop and they'll load the latest tunes while you wait. No need for your own computer, just an inexpensive mp3 player. For a consumer music player, MD requires too much ancillary equipment and knowledge - a CD player and/or computer and the ability to have them interface - to be affordable or useful in the developing world. I suppose the overstock is not being shipped to Africa or Central Asia.

What kind of bear bones you offering with the unit?

Thanks for the report, Guitarfxr. You might be interested to know about my call to Kathmandu's Sony importer. I was calling to see if there might be anything left gathering dust in the storeroom. He said MD is a discontinued item and it no longer available, in stock or for order. Namaste.

Option 1: Write to the retailers. Maybe someone can read/write English and can help you through the process. Option 2: Ask your Korean and/or Chinese friend for help in ordering. Option 3: A commercial shopping service, such as this one. Good luck.

Find a Japanese friend to bid for you, or try one of these services.

“I was probably responsible for starting up more record labels than David Geffin, Berry Gordy and Suge Knight combined!” http://www.sandiegoreader.com/weblogs/band...terviews-ever-/ I bought more than a few of these back in the early 90's. Should have recorded them to MD and resold them right away while they were still worth something. Last time I checked, rot had set into many.

I've been a MD user for quite a long time, since the mid-90's, but have used Sonic Stage little and need your expertise in creating a compilation disk. On my computer is a folder containing 820 music files in 234 folders. These are not complete albums, but selected songs. The ripper created two directories, artist: album: songs. When I load these into SS, I would like the files to belong to one group (or one album), but I'm afraid that instead I'll get around 200 folders tagged by artist or album. Is there an easy way to batch load these files into one folder/one album/one group in SS? Thank you for your help and if I haven't explained something clearly, please do ask for clarification.

This is for me perhaps the biggest reason to stay with MD, besides the fact that I'm comfortable with its look, feel and limitations. It's like the old bicycle or sweater that rides or wears so comfortably. Then again maybe at 48 I'm turning into the proverbial old fart who becomes increasingly resistent - and sometimes oblivious - to change. I did try a Sony flash drive player earlier in the year and after a month sold it at auction, mainly because I was again stuck with SS, which is fine for MD but completely unnecessay for a flash drive. Thanks for the post, BR.

It took some imagination, I'm sure.

Nice to meet you, too, Guitarfxr. Actually, I'm the guy from Fukuoka! Still in Fukuoka, but leaving next week for 6 months in Nepal. Maybe I can look you up when I get back, if I can find you. Which island are you on? Now I don't record so much as download. Got rid of all my concert tapes a few years ago while cleaning house, and expect that I'll be doing the same someday soon with MD. Since you're in Japan, maybe I can unload them on you. Let me know if you'd like to grow your MD collection by about 500 pieces.

In the process of planning a six-month stay overseas, I was shopping around for an mp3 player. I was hesitant, though, to spend $200-300, and after thinking it over decided there wasn't much a new mp3 player could do for me that my Sony MZ-NH600 couldn't. So I decided to stick with the MD and then got curious about the state of MD 2008. Used to be MD was ubiquitous but to even find blanks today you have to visit a dusty, unused section of the electronics shop. And now even the old MD Community Portal page seems sadly out of date and neglected. The only sign of life is on this board. Maybe some of you remember the mid-90's, when personal internet service was just becoming available and many music fans were beginning to make contact with each other via email. CDR and MP3 were still not widely used, and serious music enthusiasts were trading digital copies of CD on minidisc through the post office. I had long-term relationships with traders in Europe, Australia, and even the United States and Canada. Nearly every week I'd get a package of minidiscs in the mail; nearly every morning before leaving for work I'd set a cd to record with the timer set to turn off the stereo after the recording finished. In fact there were numerous occasions during the day and during the week for me to set MDs to record, times when the MDs could be recording while I was off doing something else. I also spent a number of hours each week titling the MDs I was sending out, making labels for the MDs I had received, and updating my trading lists. I've still got a huge collection of MDs, probably more than 500, but I've since lost track of all those trading friends. I actually had a chance to meet one in Germany and another in the US, but most of them I knew only through email and packages in my mailbox. I wonder if any of you are reading this. If so, perhaps you remember a guy from Fukuoka, Japan. If not, well, maybe some of you were around in those days and know what I'm talking about. Anyone remember the MD Trading Post?

Hi, everyone. I'm very happy to have found this community. Maybe some of you can help me with a little problem I began encountering today with Sonic Stage. I"ve been running the program for a few weeks and only as a means to get music from the computer to my MD Walkman. The mp3 files are on a different computer than the one on which SS is installed. Through my home network I've been copying to the Library and then onto the MD. This was working fine until today. I have 3 new albums and was able to import to the Library only 1 or 2 tracks for each album. Deleted those, restarted the computer, tried again, same problem. Then I started looking around and found you. The FAQ gave me the idea to copy those files to the computer that has SS installed. I was then able to transfer 4 tracks to the Library, after which I get the [Cannot find music files that are not registered to SS. Error Code: 00007180] Is this likely to be a continuing problem? Any known workarounds? Many thanks in advance. SonicStage : 4.3.01.14050 Dell XPS M1710 Vista SD
