I think using 5 discs at a time, is a bit much. I'd rather just use the 8 hours at 256K I get on a HiMD 1GB when I really need something that long. For the radio, LP2 is easily adequate and as it gets moved around by SS untouched, it is (for me) effectively not lossy (ie it never gets any worse, and is already as good or better than the quality of the radio I am recording). Now here's a random thought. Has anyone tried to attach an MD line-in to the output of a Satellite radio (my car head unit has a nice RCA line out)?

Guess what? I just inherited an N505 with this exact problem. Sure enough the ribbon cable is actually broken (the plastic carrier is in one piece, but the actual conductors are de-laminated from it). Ideas? If a pic would help, I can put one. But the problem is 100% clear, same symptoms.

Try deleting the contents of wherever SonicStage keeps all its "optimized files" (ie the ones after conversion but before transferring). Also a good idea to have SS delete them routinely (somewhere in options). Most likely this is (sort of) a Windows problem. The files are genuinely opened by another program. I saw this one a couple of days ago and it just went away.

Sony Walkman D-NE320, $15 (Can $ hit 94c this morning). Plays Atrac3 and Atrac3+ CD's. Now I don't have to go out to my car to test and see if there is anything playable on the CD when I have made it using SonicStage. (Duh, Sony, how stoopid could you get?). I think these went for close to $100 originally. It takes the standard 3V powersupply in for MD Walkmen. The usual remotes work with it except that the N-NE320 "knows" there cannot be a unit with a display out there (firmware hacks anyone?), and so although the buttons work, nothing shows up on the remote's display. The strange supplied remote RM-MC27 (it's like a hook to go on your key chain or belt I think) seems to work with MD Walkmen, too. I don't plan on "walking" with this man. But it now will sit next to my computer to check the contents of a new CD. I mean, the sound of an Atrac3+ 256kbps CD is seriously good in the car played on a Sony headunit, and of course you get almost 3/4 of a 1GB Hi-MD, i.e. 6 hours on 1CD (2x that for LP2, and 4x that for Hi-LP 64k).

Yup. I don't have a D7M any longer (I gave it away because it doesn't have the Menu/No or Yes buttons). But I pointed my D15M (another wide one) at the MXD-D400 and it worked fine... up to a point. Any buttons past 10 simply don't work. BUT... and this is the good news.... the >25 button allows you to enter numbers higher than 10 with no problems. The eject works. But the On/Off turns on and off my JE630 instead heheh. And the D15M works completely fine with the JE640. Even the buttons that are > 10 and <=25. So my guess is ok for the 940 which is from the series that came out the same time as the 640. So you are probably all right.

Yup. However the weight is a bitofanimpediment. Thinking about it, though.

ah, ok. the changer looks like exactly-ish the same as my player changer for the car (MDX-66XLP).

Sorry still not getting the answer I wanted. Will it record on the next MD when the current one is full, without intervention? I looked at the manual posted on the website here, and still not exactly sure. It says you can record multiple CD's to multiple MD's. But can you record a single source (radio) to multiple MD's?

I think you will find that a deck designed for a narrow remote needs one of the other "narrow" remotes for titling. However the 940 accepts a PS/2 (PC) keyboard, so that should be no problem. Suggest you go browse the decks in the equipment browser (here), and look and see what remotes there are. There's no section in the accessories browser for wireless remote, there probably should be one. If you already have a "wide" one you can try it. The D7M notably lacks the menu buttons, but the D15M has them. However there are whole alphabet soups of "narrow" remotes, hopefully you can find something.

doesn't matter about the cleaning, that would only be for the read head check the continuity of the two microscopic leads on the overwrite head to the other end of the ribbon. Lots of people report that ribbon cable getting cracked. as far as positioning, try the best power source you can before trying to do anything to the head (eg bending!)

Head looks ok in the photo. Did you break it off? (Don't be ashamed, I did.... once).

The head being in the wrong place (if it is) basically means the up/down motor temporarily or permanently quit working. I have had this happen to me, too. Sometimes it is permanent. I have definitely survived it at least once. If you try inserting disks in when the head is in the wrong position, you likely will break off the overwrite head. BE VERY CAREFUL. The advice I gave recently was: make absolutely sure you have good power to the recorder. Seems like the recalbration of the Up/Down takes about as much or more power as any other possible operation. Some have reported physically bending the part that holds it. Not sure this is a long term solution. Also the other possible problem is the ribbon cable itself got tired. You could check with an ohmmeter.

looking at M100/RH10 entry I see there are no contacts on the body for the North American Model, so any charging stand won't work. Both yours and this one came out at the same time so I should not be surprised if the same applies. Presumably you can still plug 3V charger in, and also external battery case? Both are shown on the diagram in the service manual (there's no user manual on this site, at least linked to)

You will have better luck the OLDER the player. It's possible to title (and, I presume, erase) LP tracks with an SP-only deck. I have never tried with my R91 which is my only SP-only portable, but I bet any pre-NetMD unit will be just fine. Also you could format (initialize) the disk. Sonic Stage complains but will finally let you do it, I think. Someone else confirm? Sonic Stage is just trying to be helpful, blast it.

I think you need to look at the file properties of each item in My Library (of SonicStage). This will tell you the transfer count. I have a pretty strong idea that yours will always be infinite. This all goes back to badder, earlier days when people couldn't be trusted

I went on a brief search too. You might do worse than emailing someone at minidisc.ch (Switzerland). It seems they "know" about this unit, it is one of the most if not the most, expensive ever available.

0 or 00 I think. The set (i think it's very widely found) has both. I think 000 is tooooooo small Ah, maybe you didn't click on the link I posted? Anyway if it's working without any problems, I wouldn't overtighten the screws. Getting the set is great idea, useful for all sorts of things.
