Damn, if this is not a bargain then I don't know what a bargain is!! Lowest price for a Hi-MD unit (except NH600) I've ever seen is 75

Great! Where did you got it? If you tape concerts you made a deal, it's great and you can upload your recordings to PC. Edomedo taped Bruce Springsteen in Milano (Italy) in 2008 with this device and I came out a great recording (in PCM mode). This for people who say every MD, regardless the quality of recording, is bad.. lol! By the way if you are saving for an RH1 you should look at this ..

Thanks.. I thought it would be cheaper, actually! Oh well, perhpas I'll extend this saving challenge into February as well. First day of school. I thought I'd have bought a load of food (in fact I was hungry as hell!!), but I ended up buying a Coke.. so I saved 1

It's a very interesting thread, I follow it avidously.. the problem, for me, is that it is a tricky operation and I'm afraid of damaging my MDs. I'd try this on a NetMD (perhaps my N505) or a 'cheap' MD, never on a Hi-MD. Why? First any Hi-MD cost a lot and I don't want to waste my money on a recorder I'm going to damage, second they can upload to PC, which is better than opt. out. If you are using an opt. out, why are you oing this? What are your aims?

I hope the price won't rise like hell in the last minute as it husually happens..

Amazon sells MD balnks as well.. but has high prices. What are the shops that sells MDs in Europe?

I don't know actually.. I live in Italy, we have no shops that sell MD stuff.. I have to buy from Europe/USA.

Digital transfer of old Net-MD recordings
Giant_Rick replied to digitaka's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
That's interesting. Really. So your advice is to process a signal only at 24 or32 bit, even if the 'original' file is in standard 16 bit. And for live recording? Sometimes I use PCM, but i usually go for Hi-SP as I hear almost no difference (if only my NH900 could 'finish' the disc quickier I'd go for PCM, but I won't miss 1 minute or so of music).. I never do any kind of EQ, I just do the normalize thing, which is max. amplitude at -0.3 dB and remove any DC offset. Am I wrong? And what about levels? I usually run as hot as I can.. someone say to do it, someone other suggest to run at -12db and to raise thevolume later with the PC (perhpas I can do this only if the original file is in 24 bit).. -
Oh yeah, I won't forget that! There are plenty of 'normal' MD blanks on eBay.. and Hi-MD cost a lot (even 5

Digital transfer of old Net-MD recordings
Giant_Rick replied to digitaka's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Why I have to do this? If I amplify, say, by 94% will I cause some distortion/something else? What are the theoric concepts I need to know? -
Thanks! I'll share my recordings with the RH1.. I hope to have some nice taping adventures! I am buying an RH1 because it will be discontinued soon.. so I want a new one. Minidisc were actually 'died' when I discovered them last year, it's something I can't face.. I arrived too late, even if my first mp3 player was bought in 2003, so I could have been part of the MD family for a long time. This is my little tribute, with some nostalgia, to MD.. And the RH1 will be a great unit for taping concerts. As for NetMD.. I like SP and LP2, in fact I use my N505 as a literally walkman, I listen to music on my way back home from school and things like these.. and in the future I'll buy a JB980 and a Hi-MD deck for sure. I will found those in the next years as well as the RH1, but it will be discontinued.. By the way I saved 7,5

Need help for MD with window Vista. Won't work!
Giant_Rick replied to spider1135's topic in Minidisc
Do you have a 64-bit version? If yes, no way. You need an emulator with e 32-bit version. But I suppose you have a 32-bit one as you actually installed the program. Try to open the taskmanager and find the process of the program.. I don't know how it's called on Vista, but you should recognize it; then stop it and try to lunch. If it doesn't work, try to uninstall and install again.. Good luck! -
So I finally decided to buy an RH1. Damn, it looks so gorgeous, great features, I want it.. at least untill I can buy it with ease. I have some MDs with prerecorded musci laying in my bedroom on some shelves, and I want to use it as recorder for concerts. All in all, the same things that everyone do with this little beauty. But damn, it's pretty expensive for me, considering that I'm a student, don't have work, no income, no rich parents. So I thought: ''If I can save 50

If I understood what you're asking, you need a MDLP unit. That's the cheapest way. You playback the MD and you connect the unit to the PC with a stereo cable (from phone in of the MD player thru line in of the PC), this is the cheapest way but the ''worst quality'' of all. Basically any MDLP/NetMD/Hi-MD unit will do the trick. An upgrade would be using a digital out (MD) thru a digital in (PC); another step up would be using a device with Type-S playback (like the N510). The best would be using an RH1, but you're out of money, so.. If I were you I'd buy an N510 http://minidisc.org/part_Sony_MZ-N510.html which is sldfor less than 30

I transfer cassettes/LPs in Atrac3+ @ 256 (Hi-SP) and then convert to mp3 for my convenience. When recording a gig I usually record in PCM quality if the show lasts less than 94 mins, otherwise I record in Hi-SP.. I can barely hear the difference. I have a MD recorded at the lowest bitrate.. it sounds nice with some EQ on my NH900. Hi-SP is a great deal to me.

I put a piece of paper with generic writings like ''guitar shit'', ''the boss'', ''various shit'', ''more various shit'', ''party'', ''approaching a nice girl''.

Pre-recorded MDs - Used or New Sealed - OVER THE TOP PRICING.
Giant_Rick replied to Modernaire's topic in Minidisc
I agree that sometimes prices are too high; how many times I've saw a MD sold for more than 50 USD? Too many times. But I saw also some bargains. On ebay.co.uk there is (at least last night there was) a copy of Ten by Pearl Jam at 10 -
It's amazing that these are still for sale and from Sony
Giant_Rick replied to PsychoPimpKiller's topic in Minidisc
Cassettes are sold also in the markets of my city; I guess that's because it had a lot of success back in the days, a lot of people still use cassettes, so there's a businness. I can find with ease Sony and TDK cassettes, but they are more expensive than they used to be. Too bad that MDs are disappeared in Italy.. I found this summer some Sony 74-80 min blanks in Sardinia. Luck. -
I found this site: http://winnmd.net/ The software promises to upload recordings with any NetMD unit.. is it real? Does it work? May 2010 be better than 2009!

That's a great news; I just found some files I tought were deleted and I need to archive them -- they are very important to me, I'd take them first if an earthquacke happens.

No-one tell the opposite on that. The point is that people want a sound like they were alone at home in a silent room.. if you want this, then please stay in alone at home in a silent room. In a subway you'll never reach this quality; and the more you turn up the volume, the more you damage your ears, which are a perfect machine that needs lots of attention.
-
I have a pair of cheap AKG that I use when I'm not at home.. Honestly if you're in a noisy place (on a bus, on a train, ...) it doesn't make sense to have a good pair of earphones as the place is not comfortable for listening. And boosting the volume is not a good thing.. it can damage your hearing. The noise is so high that you start to listen to music at a volume very high, the same volume that would make you sick in a quiet place I'd buy a pair of good 'phones if I have to listen to music at home, in a silent room. My 2 cents.

Thanks for the replies! I mainly use LP2.. so Type-S will do the trick. A few days ago Ifound a nice N510 for about 10
