  1. You're right, this is why I stated to make the MP3s at the highest bitrate possible to preserve sound quality.
  2. Some of my CDs are not as loud as others, mostly CDs from the '80s and '90s. I've figured out a way to creat copies of the CDs but with higher volume. Here's the procedure: 1.) Create MP3s at highest bit-rate of CD 2.) Use MP3Gain (search on yahoo) to raise the volume of the songs (around 98db to 100db) 3.) Use SS 3.4 or any other software to make an audio CD from the MP3s. 4.) The resulting CD will be louder than the original. Try it!

  4. Cyclic redundancy error means that the recording is protected and therefore may not be transferable. ARe you using SS 3.4? That eliminates most DRM issues.
  5. You can not defragment a minidisc and formating does not defragment it. It only erases the table of contents. To thoroughly format a disc and erase everything on the disc you can do one of 2 things: 1.) In explorer, right click on the Hi-MD drive and select Format. Select FAT32 and Quick Format. Start the format process. You will hear the recording head move over the entire surface of the disc. Then format as usuall using SS 3.4 or the unit itself. 2.) Insert the disc in your unit. Set recording mode to PCM. Remove headphones and usb cables from the unit. Start recording. If you're using a 1GB disc, this will take 90 min. If it's a standard MD, then it will take less than 30 minutes. This will record complete silence over the entire surface of the disc. When the recording is complete, format the disc again as usuall. I've done this to all my discs, new and old, and have had no problems at all. Hope this helps.
  6. I only use my Hi-MD unit for transferring music from CDs. So for me, the purpose is recording and playback. The digital recording and digital playback through a lense seems/sounds more like CD quality than music stored in HD or flash cards. On top of that, I believe ATRAC3plus does offer better sound quality than MP3s at the same bitrate.
  7. Looks very impressive, but I'm saving my money for my Xbox 360 which I will stream Hi-MD music into
  8. I showed a friend of mine my RH10 and he was amazed at the CD quality sound (Hi-SP) of the unit. He also thought it was great that you can record on 1GB discs that are so small and convenient. Of course, he's not an iPod fan so that may have helped in convincing him to get one and he says he will in 2 weeks. Pretty cool!
  9. Download and install SonicStage 3.4 from the downloads section. SS 3.1 is outdated and that's probably the problem.
  10. Here's the link to the post i was referring to. Read the first paragraph: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11889 Also, when i used the full installer, it notified me that it updated Simple Burner. Is this a new version of SB? The version i had before was from the download section.
  11. The reason I asked was because the post for the full installer says that it includes bug fixes. I thought these fixes were for SS 3.4 which would make it more up to date than the SS 3.4 released in January.
  12. Does the full installer have the same features as the online installer from Sony? Or is the full installer more up to date? thanks.
  13. has anyone transferred windows media audio from SS3.4 to Hi-MD? I transferred a track at 192 and it sounds pretty good. Doesn't sound drowned like MP3 playback. **Sorry, my mistake. I just noticed that SS 3.4 converted the WMA to Hi-LP and then transferred. What a disappointment.***
  14. The "S" in the model number stands for Silver. It's the same as the RH910, just different color.
  15. When it does become available please post the U.S. version. I don't want the Asian, european, canadian, african, martian versions.
  16. The same marks would show up when I would record with my old MD unit. I think it's normal and it shouldn't affect recordability. I've used my old standard MDs on my RH10 and have not noticed any problems. I wouldn't worry about it too much. There's a clear coat like substance above the actual recording surface, so it's protected, unless it's scratched deep. Basically, I believe the marks show how much of the disc has been used or where the recording has overwritten something else.
  17. Yeah, I noticed the same thing when I got my RH10. MP3s sound good on comptuer but not on Hi-MD. Basically it's just Sony promoting ATRAC3+. They figure if you compare ATRAC files with MP3 files, you'll choose ATRAC based on the sound quality, but the unit is biased. Unfortunately, you have to convert the MP3s to ATRAC and then transfer and you'll get all the highs back. Some people say some sound quality is lost during conversion, but in my opinion it's hard to notice. These are the conversions I use: MP3 128 --->ATRAC3+ 256 MP3 192 --->ATRAC3+ 256 MP3 256+ -->ATRAC3+ 256
  18. Just some advice, don't drop your unit! make sure your battery is fully charged and if you have a spare, take it. This will assure that your concert recording will not be lost. Good luck.
  19. The OLED was the final vote for choosing the RH10 over the RH910.
  20. I'm using Sony MDR-E828, they're about $10 at Best Buy. Their actually a step up from the E808 that came with my RH10.
  21. My settings provide the best sound for me without sacrificing the volume of the sound. Lowering the settings, lowers the overall volume. I could adjust my settings to give me a sound similar to mega-bass, but I would have to raise the volume. I'm already disappointed with the volume power on the RH10, so i don't need to raise it more than it already is.
  22. Okay, here is the link to SonyStyle Canada for the M100. It's priced in Canadian dollars and looks just like the RH10. The features are also listed: M100
  23. The M100 is the Canadian version of the US RH10, with the Mac support. It's not more expensive, it's just priced in Canadian dollars. After conversion to US $$, it's roughly about the same as RH10.
  24. I feel much safer joggin with my RH10 then i would with an iPod. There have been a lot of iPods stolen in my area (L.A.) I'm guessing thieves don't know what Hi-MD is so they ignore it. Remember, thieves are attracted to what's popular.
  25. We all know, that Mp3 playback on Hi-MD results in poor sound quality, so our only option is to conver the Mp3 to ATRAC and then transfer. Which should I use, ATRAC3 or ATRAC3+ and at what bitrates for best sound quality. My MP3s range from 128 to 192kbps. Thanks.
