Yeah, I'm ripping using SonicStage 4.0 The distortion is more present during the louder parts of a track. Some of the softer CDs from the 80's seem to have no distortion. I'm starting to think the distortion is being caused by a CD with high volume. I was ripping "One Heart" by Celine Dion.

I just noticed that on some music transfers from CD to my RH10, there is distortion in some of the music. I only record from pre-recorded CDs, no CD-R. Is the distortion caused by: - The CD - SonicStage - Bitrate (Hi-SP) - RH10 ???

When i say standard i'm referring to the earphones that come with Hi-MD units. I did search online, all that pops up is iPod earphones. That's why I'm asking if the iPod sponges will fit the Sony earphones.
-
Where can I find the little earphone sponge pads that fit the standard Sony earphones? Will the sponges for iPod earphones fit the Sony earphones? Thanks.

My g/f recently moved in with me and she loves my RH10. She doesn't know anything about it, she just likes the way it looks and sounds. So I'm thinking of letting her keep the RH10 and get myself an RH1. What do you think guys?

These seems like a hopeless situation, buti gotta ask...

You left your unit in a car for 3 or 4 months? Guess what? If it was hot inside the car, your unit is heat damaged and so is your disc. You could have called your dad and told him to take your unit out of the car and put it in a cool, dry place. If it's busted, it's your fault. -
If you have Windows XP, use the System Restore and go back to when you had the previous version of SonicStage. If you tell us your computer specs, that would help others in helping you.

People here are very helpfull. It's a great forum!

What exactly is it asking? Post a pic?

How/where do you normalize the WAV files?
-
Not to make fun, but it's very simple to rip a CD in WAV format using SS. I don't know how that would give you headaches. Since a WAV file is 1441kbps, I don't think using different software will give any real noticeable difference. I've got a DVD-ROM drive and DVD+-RW drive, and they work just fine with SS. But if SS is not cooperating with your CD drive, then it's necessary to use other software. Thanks for the input though.
-
Raintheory, why do you not recommend SS for ripping CD to .wav files? How/why is EAC better.

I want the best sound quality possible, but there are different ways of transfering music to Hi-MD. Which would be better: 1.) Import CD using ATRAC3plus with "normal" setting then transferring to Hi-MD 2.) Import CD using ATRAC3plus with "high" setting then transferring to Hi-MD 3.) Import CD as WAV files then converting/tranferring as ATRAC3plus to Hi-MD By the way, I've got an RH10, if that helps. Thanks for your input.

Is it just me or does there seem to be a little bit of distortion when you encode at 192, specially loud CDs. When you encode at 256, there seems to be almost no distortion. I just realized this as I was playing back some of my minidiscs and I'm probably going to have to re-transfer my music at 256. Distortion really bothers me, even though it's present when I convert MP3 to ATRAC3plus, but that's because my RH10 hinders MP3 playback.

Both the RH-910 and RH1 lack megabass, superbass, X-bass, etc. Your old MD player probably has better bass output. But if you're not looking for good bass sound, and you should be, then go for the RH1. It's got a lot more features and is the most up to date unit available.

Don't just read! Reply!

Normally I do my recording in Hi-SP, but with the new SonicStage 4.0, I've experimented with ATRAC3+ 192 and the sound quality is very good, almost like Hi-SP. Were the codecs improved or is it just my imagination?
-
Give more detail on loudness and bass response. That would be the first thing I test.
-
Cool! Now tell us about the bass output of the unit. That's what everyone here wants to know, whether they admit it or not.
-
In your personal opinion, is the playback quality better than the RH10 or any other Hi-MD unit you've owned? When I say playback quality, I'm referring to the bass, mids, and highs. Any EQ on the RH1?
-
Well, it's not available in the U.S. so there's no way I can try it out. My Sony surround system has something called "bass boost." Something like that on the RH1 would be nice too. Even my dad's Aiwa MD player puts out more bass. Here's an idea: Sony should make one unit designed more for recording purposes and another unit designed more for playback and sound quality. They can call them the RH1 (R = recording) and PH1 (P = playback). I hope the idiots at Sony are reading this.
-
If the RH1 can compete with the X-Bass sound of my old Sharp MD player, then maybe it's worth getting.
-
They were the EX51, and did not have enough bass. On top of that, I had to raise the volume up higher than with other earphones. So it has no power either.
-
Yes they are! They refuse to add MEGABASS to the Hi-MD units.
-
Exactly! Thank You. It should be 80Hz or lower. is there anyway to change it?
