  1. Those are interesting questions. Unfortunately, you didn't ask whether or not the RH1 has better bass output than the RH10. I think that's an important feature being overlooked. I guess I'll ask it myself: Does the RH1 have Megabass or better bass than the RH10? Thanks.
  2. Sorry, but I used the RH10 earphones on my Sharp MD player with X-Bass, and what a difference! Even with cheap earphones, the bass kicks. So it is a Sony issue, they don't know what bass is.
  3. I don't want to use headphones, that's so 90's. I prefer to use earphones, and yeah i still need the sponges. I'll check them out at Radio Shack.
  4. Those EQ settings don't work. If Sony can add Megabass to it's tape and CD players, it SHOULD do the same for Hi-MD. There is no excuse to not have it. Sony, more BASS!!!!
  5. I did try better earphones from Sony that were $40 at BestBuy. They had this dome shape to deliver more bass. Guess what? No bass at all, and I had to raise the volume way up to hear the music. Sorry, but i don't think Sony knows what bass is. Besides, the unit itself lacks bass. So buying more expensive earphones won't do much. Sony, add this to the RH1: MEGABASS
  6. The sponges on my earphones are ripping and i was wondering where can I buy some more in either black or gray that will fit the earphones that came with my RH10? Will the iPod sponges fit? Thanks.
  7. SonicStage will only burn CDs. As for converting WAV to MP3, yes the files will be smaller but that depends at what bitrate you convert them to. But if you're going from PCM -> WAV - > MP3, there will be a loss in sound quality, but again that depends on the bitrate.
  8. Hey, if they make some changes to the RH1 (more bass, more volume, playback of Mp3, wma, and other formats) it would be worth the wait. Imagine, a superior unit for the U.S. market. That's what Sony should do.
  9. Yes it has. Try ebay. I think a couple people on this forum want to sell theirs.
  10. Sorry dude, but you didn't even mention the BASS output of the unit. That's what we all want to know. Until people start giving feedback on that, it's not worth discussing.
  11. Unfortunately, you didn't provide the following features: - Clear playback of MP3 and WMA. - More BASS response (megabass, x-bass, bass boost feature) - More volume power I believe these are the most important features.
  12. As far as I can remember, I've never seen MDs at Wal-Mart. So this isn't surprising. Besides, most MD users buy blanks online.
  13. Let's talk about the most important feature of the RH1: the bass power!
  14. Reformatting the hardrive and re-installing Windows will fix your problem. Then you can install SS 4.0 Unfortunately, that's not what you probably want. Other than that, some Windows files may have been corrupted. Did you uninstall the codecs as well?
  15. You make a good point. Firmware should be upgradeable. Think of it, you download the software from Sony, then transfer it to your Hi-MD unit and the unit implements the new software. You could get all the bug fixes and even new codecs, or updated codecs. I think the idea of having software carved in stone is so 1990s .
  16. good one! Well, whatever was done to the encoders, it's worth installing SS 4.0
  17. First thing I did was, create an MP3 @ 320 then convert to ATRAC 256 and transfer to Hi-MD. The track sounds almost as "clear" as CD-->ATRAC. Could it be possible that the codecs have been improved?
  18. I'm guessing yours is the euro model. I also saw some other Sony earphones that have some sort of bass enhancing feature. It was $20. You think those are any good?
  19. Actually, the earphones are MDR-E828, not E808. Are they both the same in terms of performance?
  20. SS 4.0 is available, but only for Latin and Canadian models. Will it work either way if my RH10 is from the U.S.?
  21. Could you please be more specific on the following: 1.) Volume power of the RH1 2.) Bass response compared to the RH10. Which one has more? 3.) MP3 playback sound quality. These are the main features that interest me and if they are not superior to that of the RH10, i may not get one.
  22. You make a good point. But even if i used better earphones, it does not change the fact that MP3-->ATRAC music will have a little more bass, than CD-->ATRAC music. So my Hi-MD music transfer method will not change.
  23. Yes it has. But I'm not bashing anyone who enjoys their RH10 just the way it is. I'm bashing Sony for not adding a bass enhancing feature. It's common sense to have one in a portable audio device.
  24. Okay, I'm know I'm going to get flamed for this but just here me out. I've noticed that MP3-->ATRAC conversion results in more bass when played back on Hi-MD. So I did the following: 1.) Using SS 3.4, I ripped a CD using MP3 @ 320kbps (normal). 2.) *This part is optional.* I used MP3Gain to normalize the music as much as possible without affecting sound quality 3.) I converted from MP3 320--> ATRAC 256 as I transferred to Hi-MD. My unit is an RH10 and with the following EQ settings: 3,1,-1,0,1,3. Their seems to be more of a bass response but the highs also preserved. The overall sound quality was very good considering I'm only using the factory earphones. I know this process is long, but unfortunately their is no ATRACgain software and the direct ripping in ATRAC does not give enough bass when played back. I think ATRAC emphasizes the highs while sacrificing the lows. MP3 seems to be balanced on both ends.
