  1. Just interested in how you store your minidiscs? Pics anyone? Also, does anyone know where you can find minidisc racks for individual discs? I've seen a few old racks recently that hold about 25 discs and have partitions in them to make it easy to take out discs. I have searched on this forum for old posts but didn't find what I was looking for. Something like this: Cheers, Z!
  2. The disc doesn't spin at all. The cogs for the head "twitch' after a disc is inserted. They do this a further two times and then the disc is automatically ejected. Thanks.
  3. As long as the screen works on the unit then the market is strong for this machine. Is it the Japanese or non-Japanese version?
  4. So do I need to look at adjusting the laser?
  5. LOL! Sorry Stephen, please excuse my sleep deprived brain!! OK so in light of this news I swapped over the transports and the 780 worked fine. So as expected the 780 transport is causing the C13 error. In response to your post about adusting the laser, then yes - I'd like a shot at doing this. One question - when the display reads "Reading TOC" the disc isn't spinning. Tell me - does the laser read the disc first before it spins up the disc? Thanks
  6. Thanks all for the information & help. One small oversight...Danny's machine is a JE780, not a JE470. Does that make any difference? Thanks.
  7. Bizarrely one has just come up on EBAY (outta Belgium). Not cheap, but when is an EH1 these days... http://www.ebay.com/itm/Minidisc-Sony-MZ-EH1-extra-battery-/301181758725?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_23&hash=item461fd4ed05
  8. I recently had to remove the transport in the 980 (my unit) after a disc wouldn't eject and the unit was making a loud ratcheting sound (my son had lovingly fed no less than two 5c pieces into my machine!). The 470 (that I've been trying for months to fix for Danny) has a C13 error. If the transports were compatible then I wanted to see if I swapped them would I get the same error. However I don't want to do anything untoward with my transport if not. Thanks.
  9. I have ripped a Japanese CD using the latest version of SonicStage (the version from this forum downloads page). Most of the titles are in English but two are written in Japanese Kanji. After importing I get the standard '?' as the characters of the song title. I was hoping that after I transferred the songs to MD the two songs would properly display on the MD remote. Unfortunately this was not the case. If I rip the same CD in iTunes and transfer the album to my iPhone then the characters display correctly. In times past the issue was always due to requiring the Japanese language pack for windows or even requiring the Japanese version of windows. Is this the case here or is the issue with SonicStage? I'm using Windows 7 64 bit (English) version. Thanks.
  10. Does anyone know if the transport mechanism in these two machines are the same or not? If so, are they inter-changeable? Thanks.
  11. There's about 3 of us (that are active right now). Myself, Slugbahr and a newbie from Brissie. We're mainly active in the minidisc section.
  12. I also have a pair of Audio Technica headphones - ATH-M50's. As per the previous post they have a flat response and are very detailed. Quite a large headphone so a little cumbersome when walking the dog! Comfortable headband and large over-ear cups. If you are looking at something more portable then I would suggested getting a lighter headphone for day-to-day commutes. Large over-ear cups are nice in winter but certainly give you hot'n'sweaty ears during summer!
  13. 259 Euros for 4 discs!!! http://www.ebay.com/itm/4-x-Sony-1-GB-Hi-MD-Minidisc-NEU-OVP-/151285762585?pt=DE_TV_Video_Audio_MiniDiscs&hash=item2339558a19
  14. Following on from my previous thread, these are probably the rarest MD's that I own that aren't on the MD Channel Picasa site. Like most blank MD's there is very little history written about them but I'm guessing these came out at the start of the MD revolution.
  15. My RH1 has had moderate use and I have a few niggles. Mini USB jack isn't the best and unit doesn't always charge properly. Or sometimes the unit doesn't display that it's charging. Also, anytime I try to rewind during a track the unit always jumps back to the start of the track.
  16. Like most people, I originally got into minidiscs due to their compact size, re-recording without degradation, editing capabilities and sound quality. For many years I owned a modest amount of equipment (one deck, one portable and less than 100 discs). However about 4 years ago that all changed when I discovered the MDCHANNEL website https://picasaweb.google.com/minidisc.channel Then my whole world changed upside down. Bizarrely I never knew that all these discs existed (I even went to Japan early 2006). I got my first Maxell Twinkle pack from Chie and then I was hooked. 4 years later (and much poorer) I've managed to amass quite a few discs. While there are discs that I'll never find (Benetton, Kenwood etc) I have to admit I've done pretty well, although it's taken 4 years of collecting to get where I am now. As a collector, when you have an 'ultimate' list it's always nice to discover something new that's not on that list. There's not been that much, but I have a few things to share. The first thing on the list is Asahi discs. From what I can tell they must have been a promotion as the disc inside is made by Saehan. However the packaging makes it unique and I thought I would share some pics.
  17. http://www.cnet.com/news/poll-whats-the-worst-audio-format/ Not sure if anyone saw this. MD fairs pretty well in the comments.
  18. Just found this: http://www.flickr.com/photos/17739658@N00/72056530/in/photostream/ These are only a selection of the units that were on the other site but at least it's something
  19. My next purchase (when I can finally find one!):
  20. Can you post a picture of the NH3D Silver & NH1 Gold side by side? Struggle to differentiate between the gold & silver versions of the NH1. Thanks
  21. I'm currently using Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit OS. Not sure how this differs from the Pro version but I have 4.3 Sonic Stage installed (that I downloaded from the Sony site about 6 months before it was taken down). Had no problems installing and Windows 7. I'm guessing there is only one version of 4.3 Sonic Stage? Windows 7 also recognised my RH1 and Sonic Stage worked fine in Hi-MD mode. Did have an issue yesterday where this wasn't the case (probably due to the fact that a netMD recorded disc was in the unit when I connected it to my laptop). Even removing the disc and inserting a Hi-MD disc I still had an issue. I even rebooted the machine and still had the issue. So I installed the netMD driver that's available here and now everything is working fine (in both modes).
  22. There's been a few RH1 units sold recently on EBAY. Best tip is to go for one that only ships to your country. Generally these go for less money that auctions that are available worldwide
  23. Funny how some of the images used are from Bland10000's gallery!
  24. There used to be a guy in the UK that used to sell optical units on EBAY. Although its been a good 6 months (or more) since I've seen any listed. I was always tempted to get on for my 980 as a back up just incase it failed. I'll keep an eye out for you. Also, as you are from Brazil do you know anywhere there that has any blank Nipponic minidiscs - new or used? Thanks, Z
