  1. These are amazing! How did you open & reseal the minidiscs that you used? How did you label the actual minidisc themselves?
  2. Thanks Jim. I used to be based in the UK (and know Bradford quite well) but alas I set sail for sunnier climes a few years ago and am now based in Melbourne (with amazing local radio stations to fill up plenty of minidiscs on a weekly basis). I'll need to check with Danny what he wants to do, although I need to check out the spindle motor first. Thanks for everyone's help. Cheers, Z.
  3. First of all - yes, this is a 780. When powering up / down the unit there is no motion within the mechanics of the unit, the only thing that happens it that the display comes on. I did notice during the error the motor that moves the optical assembly does turn but yet the disc does not spin. Should this move before the disc spins or vice/versa? I can't say I could hear any feint 'whipping noise', just a low hum (I'm guessing from the transformer) Thanks all Z
  4. Danny (a.k.a Slugbahr) sent me home with his JE780 unit that was giving the dreaded C13 error. Now this was about 4-5 months ago! Having a 1 year old boy & a busy job doesn't lend much time in fixing things. So to speed things along I am hoping to seek advice here. I've only been able to take the lid off and look at the basics. When loading a minidisc the disc seems to load fine, the shutter is opened but one thing I did notice is that the motor doesn't run and the disc doesn't spin. This is what I suspect to be the cause of the issue. I've taken a couple of videos and uploaded them here: One main question I have - should the motor spin as soon as the disc is loaded? What would cause the disc not to spin? Many thanks, Z.
  5. Do you still have a pack of the Fuji Axia MD Pro 80min available? Thanks
  6. Its taken me a while to post this but big thanks to Sergio for all the awesome blank minidiscs at very reasonable prices. Thanks for your patience with me. Cheers, Z.
  7. Many thanks for that. Is that info in the service manual or do you need to know an insider for that? Anyway I was able to enter the service mode in both Japanese & US versions and I think it's safe to say there is something physically wrong with the OLED display of the Japanese unit. Thankfully I didn't ruin either unit! Cheers.
  8. Thanks. We're you able to get the unit into "test" mode. I've downloaded the service manual from minidisc.org but can't work out how to do it. It talks about a "set key" but doesn't make a lot of sense. Thanks.
  9. Hi Sergio, Did you ever fix this issue? I have an RH10 with the same issue. Everything works apart from the main OLED screen on the unit. I can put it into service mode (I think) but I can't go any further as from there it's all in Japanese!
  10. Never knew his own forum ever existed but look at the Picasa list all the time and is probably the main reason I've turned into a manic MD blanks collector!!!
  11. Slugbahr's 780 fails to spin the disc after it's been inserted.
  12. I have a couple for collection purposes but never done an acid comparison test against standard discs. Cool discs but just use standard discs for recording.

  14. After owning minidiscs for years it's only been over he last 18 months that I've become a hardcore collector. So no doubt I've missed some of the weird and wonderful minidisc related rarities that have come and gone over the years. Last year I had a chance at getting a promotional 'Sony Minidisc' lamp (which of course I now regret not getting). So I'm wondering what little trinkets you long time collectors have in your collection. So what weird and wonderful things do you have in your collection? Cheers, Z!
  15. CV - sent you a PM. Thanks to Danny for helping me out with a few things on the list. Victor Fruity Colors anyone? Were these like sold in a limited run or something?
  16. My Sony MDS-JB980 is 10 years old and still going strong. Used to record on it on a weekly basis for years and then it sat in storage for a while. Powered back up without any issue and I'm again recording with it on a weekly basis. The only trouble I have is that the display sometimes dims but it's still a solid deck. Hopefully I haven't cursed it now but it's been pretty reliable. Also tried 'timer record' for the first time ever last month and it worked fine. The only thing it can't do is erase minidiscs that have been recorded with latter day portables. So I have to use my RH1 for that and then I can record on the disc without issue. Z PS. I used to own a 920. The titling via a PC keyboard was superior and I preferred the remote but bought a 980 as it had MDLP.
  17. Thanks to all of you who responded. I know I'm being hopeful with some of them but you can only try. Danny - I'm in Australia too. Cheers, Z.
  18. 2012 may not be the best time to start collecting minidiscs (about a decade too late) but over the past year I've become hooked. Even though I bought my first MD recorder back in the late 90's I've had a long hiatus and never knew so many discs were made. Ebay has served me well over the last year but I'm getting to a stage where certain discs just aren't coming up. I've even contacted a couple of Japanese sellers who say discs are pretty scarce there too. I've seen still a few things of interest on Amazon.co.jp (although rare portable recorders/players are listed at extortionate prices), sellers here don't ship outside of Japan. So I thought I would post a topic here to see if anyone wants to sell me any of the discs listed below that they have extra of or no longer want. The discs do NOT have to be still in their original packaging but I would prefer them without any labels been stuck on the discs. So the list: AXIA: "Select Your Style" - Green one with 3 lampshades: https://picasaweb.go...153527558569602 IDEMITSU: Any - https://picasaweb.go...hannel/Idemitsu MEMOREX: "Memorex SG" - Any colour: https://picasaweb.go...987264293260146 SAEHAN: "Windplayer" - Any colour: https://picasaweb.go...566798349386482 TDK: "Bitclub" - Yellow/White stripes: https://picasaweb.go...654463864314642 "Bitclub" - Black Triangles: https://picasaweb.go...654468159281954 "Bitclub" - US Maps: https://picasaweb.go...654429504576226 "Bitclub" - Book: https://picasaweb.go...345865745722738 "Bitclub" - Circles: https://picasaweb.go...345865745722738 "Bitclub" - Bubbles: https://picasaweb.go...345892593812146 "Bitclub" - House: https://picasaweb.go...345989694446114 "Bitclub" - Runner: https://picasaweb.go...346016983116610 TOPVALU: https://picasaweb.go...nel/TopvaluAeon VICTOR: "Fruity Colors" - Any or 5pk: https://picasaweb.go...780324778361490 "AR 2004" - Any or 5/10pk: https://picasaweb.go...609478376851730 "X(Kai)" - 80m or 74m: https://picasaweb.go...305044035477570 "D-Cruise" - Red or Blue: https://picasaweb.go...304369725612066 "Luna Sea" - https://picasaweb.go...609602930903602 Lastly, I'm also after the Victor/JVC XM-C31 player (preferably in pink or blue). If you have any of these that you are willing to sell, please PM me. If I've used your website to reference these discs - thanks (and I'm jealous!) Many thanks, Z.
