Here is yet another one: http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=4938 -
Are you and Ishii also aware of the number of porn spam posts that have been taking place on the ATRACLife Colloquium? So far, as of this morning, I am the last real registered user on there who is not either a spammer or a bot. Hey Chris, and while we are at it, what can we do to get some filters or guards to prevent spammers/bots from registering of both boards? This is getting ridculous! I did not register with the ALC and the MDCF to read about porn sites or buy prescriptions online, thank you. It's time to clean house on both of the boards (both the ALC and MDCF), how can we shrink the memberlist down so that only real users are in the system as opposed to the over-inflated numbers that have been caused by spammers/bots?

I too, have retired/decommissioned my entire MD/Hi-MD portable stash, except for my RH1 units, in favor of my NW-HD5 DAP. But I still use MD in the car, as well as in the studio and at home, as well as for the purpose of uploading to the HD5 through my RH1. I also use Hi-MD as a data storage media as well, as CDs can very easily get scratched or damaged in so many ways. But as far as my days of MD/Hi-MD-only and nothing else, you can blame the guys over at Head-Fi for the end of that. But however, unlike most of them, I will never stoop to the level of becming one of those dreaded iSheep, and I will also continue to support ATRAC and SonicStage for as long as my HD5's (both the ones I will be using as well as the one designated as parts donors) hold up, otherwise, I can always re-instate my old MZ-NH700's or any of my other units I have stored away.

42 (7 months and 18 days younger than my hero/former high school classmate Cindy Margolis), and a 10-year veteran of MD (my management, Len Enders of Label Cove Entertainment got me into it then), I will never go back to cassette tape for my recording purposes, period. Digital clarity, the fact the an MD can never be "eaten up" by a deck or player, plus the overall versatility of MiniDisc beats cassette tape hands down for both recording and playback use. P.S.: Try getting the same SQ from an i-[censored] like some of those iSheep on Head-Fi try to, you can't, because not even an external headphone amp can help them out, but then again, i-[censored] need an amp just to sound as good as MD, and i-[censored] units don't have an onboard EQ or even MegaBass like Sony ATRAC products do, hell, even my NW-HD5 (ATRAC/SonicStage-compatible) HDD Walkman sounds better than they do. Don't be an iSheep, buy Sony MiniDisc. ATRAC OR DEATH!!! "I am Ray Jackson and I approved this message"

Oh how true, true. Some folks don't stop using cassette tapes either if you want to go on that angle.

I may not be too much a fan of over-the-ear phones, but I do agree about the MDR-EX082 IEM's, I have a pair of these and while the might not replace my cling-wrap modded EX90SL's (see http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f103/sony-ex...-thread-193464/ for details on how to modify yours), they sound great.

Can you record with a MP3 player or an iTouch? Nope. sector001 may have a point with MD being somewhat "obsolete" as far as it being a player is concerned although myself and a few on this board may have a bit to say about that, but MD and Hi-MD are indispensible as far as a digital recording device is concerned, and the RH1/MZ-M200 is the ultimate MiniDisc/Hi-MD recorder when it comes to its versatility. The MZ-RH1 (or MZ-M200) can not only play and record off any source (live, line-in, mic-in and digital optical), but also it can upload your recordings (and even premastered MDs you buy at the store) direct to your PC for conversion to MP3 or AAC (or you can leave it in ATRAC) and for transfer to your other players, including your iTouch (I think SonicStage CP 4.2 might allow it), so I would suggest you get one. Although I now use my NW-HD5 for my player use and my RH1 as an uploader, I do every once in a while ge out the RH1 to listen to an MD or Hi-MD I make, and that is where MD/Hi-MD is indispensible, because if the HDD crashes or if your DAP wears out, what do you do?

I'm game for it.

Once you have your PayPal account set up, can you possibly hook me up with some RM-MC35ELK remotes (both in Silver [for my Silver HD5] and in Black [for my Black RH1]), as included with the RH1 over in Japan? I happen to like the ELK series of remotes (I already own some 40ELK and 55ELK remotes) better than the EL series (except for use with my D-NE700 PCDP Walkman), especially for MD/Hi-MD/HDD use.

Sad news indeed. R.I.P. MD (1991-2008) Good thing people like you and I and many other son this board already stocked up, on everything MD and Hi-MD, from blanks to cases to players and recorders. I don't think I will be doing to much reselling of my massive stock, especially since I may never see it again, knowing that we are all like sharks who smell blood in the water (an MD unit or accessories for sale) and have a tendancy of wanting it either for everyday use or as a backup to add to their ever-valuable stash. Dead format? Dead my a..!!! I still use it at home even ten years since I first go into it, as well as in the car, and I even use MDs to make my compilations and record my tapes and LP's in order to upload them to my PC (with SS 4.2CP) with one of my three RH1's for use with my NW-HD5 Network Walkman. I also have hundreds of blanks (both new and used), and well as tons of assorted accessories I have gotten over the past ten years, and right now I trust them more than I do the stock market when it comes to maintaining most of their resale value in the long term.

Good call. I do not want to read about porn sites or about ordering online medications, I want to read about ATRAC-based Walkmen insead.

STILL down.

MDR-A34 (SP), as included with mid-late 90s MD Walkman recorders equipped with inline remote controls. At only 16 ohms and 108 dB of thunderous bass, although they have absolutely no noise isolation, they just being out the best in the otherwise puny 5 mW units most of us own.

Thanks 4 the headsup, Rich.

Keep the faith, man.... at least as a digital recording device, MD is still the ultimate, even after 16 years. I still use MD at home as well as in the car and in HMW Studio One for making my custom compilations for use in those as well as on my NW-HD5 (uploaded through my one of my 3 MZ-RH1 units to my PC with SonicStage 4.2 CP). But if you do go to another playback source, I highly recommend, unless you want to search high-and-low for an older Sony NW-HD series player (I myself use an NW-HD5 for playback, with both ATRAC and SonicStage support), that you go for the new Sony NWZ-A or -S series of units or any other non-iPod device, like Cowon, Sansa, Zune or Creative, just remember what my signature says, and don't become an iSheep.

Well said, to both Fxr and Raj, well put. Although I now use a 20GB NW-HD5 Network Walkman (ATRAC/SonicStage-supported) for most personal playback purpose, I still use MiniDisc (and to some extent Hi-MD, my lineup of MZ-RH1's are used for uploading to the HD5) for all of my studio recording, as well as home and car playback purposes, whether it be recording off an analog or digital or live source, or to make a straight 1-1 copy, or even to make one of my many custom compilations. Other than the CD-R/RW, there is nothing better still to this day, for recording purposes than the MiniDisc and Hi-MD format, no matter what those iSheep (and there are a lot of them on Head-Fi at http://www.Head-Fi.org believe me) try to tell you. I own a ton of both legacy (MD/MDLP/NetMD) and Hi-MD units and would never give them up for any price!!! Don't let them intimidate you into joining their cult. Let's see any of them (this means you, Cindy Margolis! Join us here on the MDCF and embrace the MD!!!) try to decipher what an MD is as well as what it is still all about, and how useful the format is still to this day, despite Sony and their RIAA-influenced, corporate, restrictive mismanagement of the format. That is what put MD on the brink of extinction, not us, the tons of those who swore their allegiance to the format under oath to this one slogan: ATRAC OR DEATH!!! BTW guys (and gals), I am also 42, and I swore my allegiance to MD back in 1998, and I still use it everyday, even in this day and age of multi-gig, multi-format DAP's. I am Ray Jackson, and I approved this message.

Sony themselves killed the MiniDisc, the Hi-MD and the ATRAC codec, with years of restrictive mismanagement. We sure as hell didn't kill it, we all embraced it for the undeniable fact that you could record, edit, and move tracks, all digitally, and without the use of an external computer, it was all done by the MD recorder itself. It only got better and more advanced with such advances as MDLP, which allowed up to 5 hours, 20 minutes on a single 80-miniute disc, NetMD in 2002 and Hi-MD in 2004, which allowed downloads of music to MD or Hi-MD and with the codecs ATRAC 4.5, Type R, Type S, ATRAC3, and ATRAC3Plus, and also, last but not least, with the 2006 debuts of the MZ-RH1 and the MZ-M200, uploading of legacy MD format to a PC, like I do for later use on my ATRAC-compatible NW-HD5 DAP. Useless my a**, next time do your research before you blurt that crap out about MD.

It is, I agree, but most of my MD units were bought with specific purposes for each in mind. My 2 black RH710's were bought and accessorized with matching RM-MC55ELK remotes and MDR-EX85SL's for my all black Rollerblade inline skate gear, and was used sparingly and exclusively for it (once). The same thing wth my MZ-R70's and R700's that were each bought with the purpose of being field recorders for recording live shows here in Port Townsend, but our music scene ded and therefore were never used, except for testing for operational functioning., the 3 NH700's were all bought on eBay from Canada in 2004-05 and served my well to the point where I never used two of them, as my main one was always reliable. Others were bought for the accessories that they came with, accessories like vintage circa-1990's Case Logic MiniDisc Cases, and other assorted goodies. The NW-HD5 purchases were made at the recommendation of the good folks over at Head-Fi, mainly for their ATRAC and SonicStage support and compatibility, so I lost nothing by doing this, and gained 20GB of storage space and user-removable, replaceable battery use and up to 40 hours of play on a single charge. The 3 RH1's I own (one used at any time with the other two as backups in case it dies) are mostly used as field recorders and part-time MD/Hi-MD players here and there, as well as for their legendary uploading ability.
