  1. I own an RH1 I bought las July from B & H Photo and Video and I really do enjoy using it for uploading legacy discs to my PC, but I have just one question, as I am skeptical about the following: I have a direct link on my PC to MiniDisc Canada, and I was wondering from any of you if you have bought an RH1 (in black at that) from them in the past, and if you have, do they sell North American-market versions or is it the infamous "Euro-crippled" version you have to hack? I hope to hear from you soon, Ray Jackson MDCF user ID: BIGHMW
  2. I'll just keep using my MDR-EX90SL's thanks.
  3. You have PM in the A-T-B from me, so go ahead and check it out. Thanks, Ray Jackson
  4. You want to get the RM-MC39LT. This is the correct remote for your NH700/NHF800. The 37LT came with the older NetMD units, such as the MZ-NF610/810 and other NetMD units and does not have the A -> B option on it like the 39LT does, so you are right. The 39LT is worth every bit of the extra $20 USD, I own one as well as the 40ELK, and yes to answer your question about the remote having a backight, the 39LT is not a backlit remote, but the 40ELK (non-radio remote) is backlit. Go ahead and get both the 39LT and the 40ELK, you can't go wrong with that, and, to paraphrase what they say on Head-Fi: "Welcome to the MDCF, sorry about your wallet"
  5. Actually you really want to get the RM-MC39LT remote, this is the same one that they include with the MZ-NHF800 Hi-MD Walkman (the NH700's twin model). Here is where to get it: http://store.whsle.biz/product_info.php?cP...products_id=158 The 39LT also has Hi-MD-exclusive A-B control as well as everything else on that other remote that he was talking about. As for the RM-MC40ELK, while it is not a tuner remote, it has numerous features that you won't find on other remotes, and you will find it here: http://store.whsle.biz/product_info.php?cP...;products_id=57 I have both for my NH700 and they work absolutely teriffic. If you own an MZ-NH700 like I do (I own three of them), you need to get both to really enjoy this unit and get the most out of it. Thanks, Ray Jackson

    MDR-EX90

Nope, I have not (yet) done this mod myself, as I get very uneasy about doing mods on units (except "Euro-crippled" Walkmen for their volume hack) for the fear of making a mistake and messing it up permanently, plus the bass is already good on them (after burn-in), as I have owned these IEM's for over a year now, but maybe I will soon.

    MDR-EX90

Your answer to the improved SQ question, with a little help from j-dawg on the Audio T-Board http://www.audiotstation.com/forum/showthread.php?t=35243 Although I have not done this particular mod to my EX90s yet, I understand though that it not only improves the isolation and bass on them but also brings the mids an trebles closer to the bass on them. It is as simple as the volume/EQ hacks on the EU-market MD Walkmen, if you use caution and a little bit of patience
  8. .....not to mention that it runs on AA batteries and is also one hell of a player, but, in order to really enjoy it as such, you're also going to need the RM-MC40ELK remote, the Holy Grail of minidisc/Hi-MD remotes. Once you learn how it operates, it is a piece of cake.
  9. I own a bunch of "legacy" (pre-Hi-MD, meaning mono/SP, LP2, LP4) units as well as some Hi-MD units, including an MZ-RH1/M200, and I am in the same situation that you are, but at any cost, I would definitely keep both the R700 and the R50, the R50 for a collector's piece, as I agree with Guitarfxr as far as its reliability and endurance are concerned, two features that Japanese-bulit units (pre-MDLP pre-2000) have over their Malaysian (Post-MDLP 2000-now) versions. Malaysian-built units also have more of a tendancy to give up the ghost faster than their Japanese-made counterparts, even though today's units have more features in them (longer battery life, MDLP, Hi-MD capability, etc.), but if I were you I would do more research on each of your units, and realize that with the R50 you now hold what is an extremely-valuable piece of electronics that will last you twice as long as today's units. TBH, I would think twice before selling either the R50 or R700, for the fact that you will eventually devbelop the old "sellers' remorse" that leads to re-acquision of a unit (and usually for more $$$ than you sold the previous one for), so I would say, based on that, to keep both, and see how the MD trade market plays itself out.
  10. Good call on that. Speaking of finding top for cheap prices, I scored an incomplete MZ-NH700 (!!!) from Canada for the incredibly low price of $24.99 USD ($50.00 incl. shipping, see http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...N:IT&ih=023 for more details!!!), so I am on the kill phase for both MD and Hi-MD gear while it is still around. As for blank media I do agree that we should buy now while there still is stock and for cheap, better not wait too long, because as soon as mainstream merchahnts start reading our posts on the and other boards they will gouge the prices on them before you can say "Jack Robinson".
  11. Oh, TC, how wrong you are... I do own, and have owned an R50, although not this particular one in specific, the R50 was my first unit back in 1998. I just never declared it as part of my intended lineup, as it was gonna be resold for money, but, since you brought it up, I intend to keep it as a momento of the first unit I ever bought, although this one was bought back in December of last year as part of a package deal, in which I was gonna strip what I wanted and then turn around and sell the rest. The sentimental value of this unit is far greater than any dollar value, either here or on eBay, can ever buy me. This one came with the power adapter, the RM-MZR50 remote, the AA battery clip, a bunch of premastered MDs, and a Case Logic MDC-1 case. Somehow, just like my days in school when I was a kid, you never forget your first (the R50, TC, not Cindy Margolis, my first crush was Tempo Edwards in 1978), and for me mine was and always will be an R50, that is why I reacquired one this past December, as part of my stock and this will be in the retired section mainly but it will be used every once in a while, but what would you rather have give up the ghost on you, one of my/your newer units (except for my RH1 or MZ-1), or my first from back in 1998? The answer I think is an easy one. Thanks TC, for convincing me and inspiring me not to give up on that first from 10 years ago, in the end it will all pay off.
  12. This item is now officially SOLD. Thanks, everybody.

  14. I'll do a pictorail of my vintage HD420 Sennheisers for all you guys. It'll take some of you back in time for a moment.
  15. Kinda reninds me of some of the iSheep on the Head-Fi forums, yes there are Hi-Fi freaks out there on that board who do care about SQ as much as we do (They are more into matching headphones with PMP/amp copmbination than even we are!) I even bit on the opportunity of buying a $160.00 USD Meier Audio Corda Headsix headphone amp because of them (see http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f5/headsix-h...-action-261529/ for more details on this great 9V-powered amp) and my MZ-NH700 sounds even better than it did before (it sounded great before, but man!!!.....) They even inspired me to not only dig out my vintage 600-ohm Sennheiser HD420 headphones from storage (for 20 years ever since the first cord broke on them), but also, to restore tham, as I bought new replacement foam cushions for them, but also a parts HD420 setup to complete my restoration project as they now sound as great as they did when I first got them back in 1983!!!
  16. Amen to that! ATRAC or DEATH!!! Hey guys, check out this thread on Head-Fi!!! They are finally paying a little R-E-S-P-E-C-T to our beloved format.... ahh the fools just don't know: http://www.head-fi.org/forums/f15/mourning...ni-disc-288681/
  17. Yeah, but I always want to get fresh media as well as seconds, especially of Hi-MD, and maybe another RH1/M200 in case the one I have konks out on me during transfer of files. As for recording live on the fly, like at shows at small venues, I have lived with good-old ATRAC 292 kbps (SP mode for all you kiddies out there) for a long time (10 years), and I will always have a huge arsenal of both legacy (2 MZ-R70S, 1 MZ-R70G and 2 MZ-R700S represented here) and Hi-MD units (2 MZ-NH700S, 2 MZ-RH710B and 1 MZ-RH1B represented here) to both enjoy my music and store my files for decades to come.
  18. OK Wiz, I must admit that I am a bit behind on the tech times, but, do Sony's flash players utilize any of the infamous DRM or SCMS? I hope not.
  19. Ditto on the RH1 (I own one) and if you can't get it (becuase most stores are sold out) then I recommend its twin unit, the MZ-M200, basically tha same as the RH1 but with a bonus ECM-DS70P included in the box.
  20. I believe so, or at least the Sony ones will be (Premium Gold MDW-80 and HMD1GL Blue Series Hi-MD's), so don't take that chance, stock up now! I don't believe so, if you care anything about quality, already TDK and Maxell have discontinued their MD lineup and you can bet that good-old Sony (God love them.... NOT!) may be the one behind it all with their good buddies from the RIAA knowing that is the only way that we digital recording enthusiasts can record and edit digitally before burning, backing it up, or up/downloading to CD (like I do for most of my compilations) is through MD/Hi-MD. Don't wait, pull the damn trigger! Get blank media and get plenty of it now!
  21. bump. still after all this time available.
  22. Before VW, I had mine for vintage Citroens myself, those were weird-looking-but-cool cars
