OR, the Connects 2 ASONWHD001 or ASONWHD002 instead for total control over your player

Agreed. MD and Hi-MD are both godsends from Sony, and then they had to go and wreck it all with BS like DRM and SCMS in their recorders and such, but, I own pro recorders (an HHB CDR-850 and a Sony MDS-E10) and use SonicStage 4.2CP so I don't have to worry about DRM or SCMS, period. I am sure glad that I goy into the best digital recording media format ever made back 10 years ago (my management, Len Enders of Label Cove Entertainment turned me onto it.), and I will never go back to cassette tape or bother to become an iSheep or MP3 freaks like some of the guys on Head-Fi are (I wish they would see), not even if the MD players becomes "obsolete" or inferior in the eyes of the mainstream. There is a reason why I state proudly the slogan "ATRAC or DEATH!!!" in my pro-MD/Hi-MD rhetoric, it's because loyalty is still a very sacred value to some people, especially when you are in your 40s like myself. That is why i have stockpiled in both legacy and Hi-MD players and recorders because I don't want to be left out in the cold when the time "comes" to evolve to a new format when one of my main units die on me. Remotes, units, cases, accessories, blank media. I am ready for the long journey into portable audio heaven, may God have my spot be equipped with a full MD system when I die please.

That is a special plug adapter use to enjoy you headphones onboard airlines (works with most services).
-
I agree fully on the MD-133 being the ultimate Hi-MD unit, but FYI, the radio remote that comes with the NHF800 also works with its sister unit, the MZ-NH700, in fact the 700 and 800 are the same, except the 800 has the VPF Acoustic Engine, other than that, that's the only difference between the two.
-
I myself have two NH700 units and they are my go-to everywhere-you-go units for playback and whatever, I have a ton of gear that I use for it (both Sony OEM and Sony and third-party aftermarket), as opposed to the stock gear that came with it, but just to update this poll, you should also add the RH1 and the M200 (same unit) in there as well.

Don't forget about those terrible floods that ravaged most of Southwest Washington state, including Lewis County, one of the most hardest hit by the floods. ...And today they are continuing to get screwed both by the US government and by FEMA, just like the flood/hurricane victims of Katrina, even almost three long years later. Enjoy you unit! I hope you like those custom-corded MDR-NC6 headphones I included with it (I used a shorter cord and the extension from an old MDR-EX81SL to simulate the JE [Japan Edition, with the 0,5m cord and 1.0m extension as opposed to the 1.5m cord the US version has] Version of that HP, as it has the shorter cord and extension too.).

I'll keep that in mind and use Hi-MD as the master disc while making backup copies on optical media (CD/DVD). I already do this for my custom MD compilations (in legacy SP, of course) with CDs as backup copies and listen to them on Hi-MD at 64K A3+ on my 8 assorted 34 hour Hi-MDs I tout around for personal listening use. As for the hardware and media issue you bring up, I do own plenty of legacy (MD/MDLP/NetMD) units, as well as 2 MZ-NH700 units, 2 MZ-RH710 units, and one MZ-RH1 (with another RH1/M200 planned in the short future), and as far as blank MD/Hi-MD media, I have plenty now, and more to come. I am also currently stockpiling on all three fronts: hardware (players/recorders, both legacy and Hi-MD), software (blank media), and also accessories (both OEM and aftermarket in the form of remotes, IEM's/phones, cases, etc.), I will definitely be ready for when one of my units dies put with plenty of backups. I am also stubborn about using top-quality media, as I use Sony Premium Gold Series 80-minute MDs and HMD1GL (Blue, second generation) Hi-MDs exclusively for all of my music and data storage.
-
Actually, I use Zip 100 discs in my Boss (Roland) BR-8 Zip-based Digital Recording Studio multi-track, and floppies exclusively for temporary storage of text-related format as an editable alternative to CD/DVD-R, and as for the Zip 100 discs, I have managing software for ability to edit and mix/master tracks to CD on it as well as ability to re-record segments with errors in them (bad takes, bad timing, off-key vocals/instruments, etc.) on the BR-8 itself. As for Hi-MD, I use the format not only for compressed music but also I have plans to upload/backup MPEG and JPEG files (Cindy Margolis downloads, small MPEG fles, etc.) on media that is reusable and that will allow me to add or delete onto/off-of it at will, or for transfer to a new unit or even a friend's PC. I just fear having my PC crash with my DSL connection intact due to unplanned events (power outage, virus, malware, etc.), and it is nice to have an editable backup of all my programs on hand, and these three formats, being that they are all magneto-optical format, allow me to do just that.

NOW??? After they ditch us loyal MD/Hi-MD owners??? After they just closed the Connect Music Store??? That is indeed a slap in the face of every older MD/Hi-MD/Network/ATRAC CD Walkman owner (1992-2007) Why not from the get-go (15 years ago) when they were still supporting MiniDisc and Hi-MD?? It would have made a huge difference back then. Sony really shot themselves in the foot...... again. At least they owe every MiniDisc and Hi-MD and other ATRAC Walkman owner an apology for this, now, are they going to be compatible with our equipment, or SonicStage (3.4 or higher)? I hope so. This will breathe new life into our gear (MD/Hi-MD/Network/ATRAC CD units) and open new doors that should have been open 15 years ago. Oh, and one other question, can SonicStage (3.4 or higher, I own 4.2 CP myself) convert them from MP3 to our superior ATRAC format? And if so, how? If they can be, my RH1/M200 all of a sudden has a new lease on life besides being strictly and uploader and part-time downloader to Hi-MD discs of music and data.

THIS ITEM IS NOW SOLD. -
Oh no... she did that??? Poor thing (the deck as well as your daughter). To answer your question about whether this and all my other units are still for sale, yes it is. I have been waiting to sell it for quite a while, I almost gave up and was days away from having to sell it on eBay. I would rather sell these units through the MDCF than eBay where I know that I might make less than my asking price, which is now $10.00 USD plus shipping, and yes I still do take PayPal. Thanks, Ray Jackson MDCF user ID: BIGHMW

Another option for car use (if your HU is a Sony with the UniLink jack), is the Connects 2 ASONWHD001 from the UK, for more details on it log onto http://www.connects2.com

SOLD: Sony MZ-NHF800 Hi-MD Walkman- $95.00 USD, with bonus accessories
BIGHMW replied to BIGHMW's topic in Classifieds
Of all the Hi-MD units that take AA batteries, the first generation units seem to have the longest battery life around, as second generation units all came proprietary for rechargeable stick batteries (except for the RH/DH710), and as for the mic jack, yes there is a mic jack included on the NHF800 unit I am currently selling. If you do still want it, I will be more than glad to send you a PayPal invoice, all you have to do is PM me your e-mail address and I will invoice you through PayPal. Thanks, Ray Jackson user ID: BIGHMW -
Don't count Cindy Margolis out when it comes to brains, she indeed has them, and has posed nude for Playboy on top of that.

Unfortunately, you can't record off of the radio tuner, but, you can record broadcasts from an external radio or other source using either the line or optical input (the line/optical in jack does both, but not simultaneously). I have done this with a number of radio programs that aired from time to time, hooked up a good-old Radio Shack Y-adapter to the line out of my stereo receiver and the stereo line in jack of my Walkman (the same as your current deck), it works great, and the beauty of it all is, if you use a 1GB Hi-MD disc you can record up to 93 minutes of uncompressed audio on it and then edit it on the PC (with SonicStage software, 4.2 recommended), just be sure you change discs when it gets pretty full during one of those annoying long commercial breaks so you will be ready for when they do come out of the commercial break.

Agreed. I too, am looking to unload some players and recorders, now that I have picked my preferred units, but I somehow have reserve thoughts of selling then, because of the ever-creeping "seller's remorse" I sometimes have when I part with one of these units. I guess it's just the end result of me being on this board and trying to keep up with you guys (and gals) in having and acquiring as many as possible knowing Sony proverbially smacked us right in the face by introducing this great format and then ditching us to flock with the mindless iSheep that are out there, I swear, it's like an incurable disease what that ass-clown Steve Jobs had unleashed on all of us, so we have to fight back through our loyalty as well as our wallets, and that is why even I have so many units, just take a look at these current roster stats of those I plan to keep in my stockpile, folks: Roster (excluding units up for sale) Portables include: MZ-1 (1) MZ-R70 Silver (2) MZ-NH700 Silver (2) MZ-RH1 Black (1) MZ-RH710 Black (2) Home/Pro Decks include: MDS-JE520 MDS-E10 (Pro Deck) MXD-D3 Car Units include: MDX-C5970 (2, one in each vehicle) MDX-65 changer (2, one in each vehicle) Connects 2 ASONWHD001 (2, one in each vehicle, plus 2 spare boxes) Indeed, I too, have the fever for MD/Hi-MD as much as you, and thanks to this board and to all of you for making it with MD/Hi-MD Other accessories, including bundled units: Cases: Case Logic MDC-1 (2) Case Logic MDC-2 (1) Case Logic PS-2 Cassette TranSport Belt Case Logic MDW-12 (2) Case Logic MDW-24 (8) Sony MiniDisc Case (promo, 2, Grey) Sony Hi-MD Case (promo, 2, Grey) various Sony Walkman MiniDisc Pouches, both cloth and nylon* Remotes: RM-MZ2S Silver (1) RM-MZ3R (2)* RM-MC21 (2)* RM-MC25C (1) RM-MC38EL Black (1)* RM-MC39LT (1) RM-MC40ELK (1) RM-MC55ELK Black (2) RM-MC60 (2) Headphones /Earphones: MDR-E808SP (6)* MDR-E808LP (2)* MDR-E888SP (1) MDR-A34SP (2)* MDR-NC22 (1) MDR-NC60 (JE, 1) MDR-EX85SL Black (1) MDR-EX90SL Silver (1) ' Various Micellaneous Items: Sony ECM-MS907 Microphone Sony CPA-7 Car Cassette Pack Sony DCC-E230 3v DC Adapter Sony MiniDisc Car Velcro Case Sony MiniDisc Belt Pack *- indicates bundled units So I am a MiniDisc freak indeed. Agreed, and understood. I would say the same about the format, I too, will never flock with the mindless brainwashed iSheep out there who are stupid enough to think that MP3 is superior to good-old ATRAC/3/3+.... BULLS***!!! The truth is, at any bit rate you can name, ATRAC is much better than MP3 or any other compression format out there. Everyone (at least on this board) knows that magneto-optical storage media is far superior to any laser-engraved/flash media out there, starting with the forever-venerable floppy disc, the Zip disc, and of course, last, but certainly not least, MD and Hi-MD!!! It has long been questioned how long magneto-optical-written media lasts, and I can tell all of my fellow colleagues on this board (and also Cindy Margolis) that CD-R/DVD-R is not as durable as you might think, in fact some last only a few years before the coating loses its contents, and that is why in 2008, I will be switching from CD-R's to Hi-MD, Zip, and floppy formats for all of my data storage and backups (except for video or music, my own as gangsta rapper AK47, that I sell to you. my loyal fans), because to quote Sony's old slogan from the 90s (remember the good-old days, kids?), that.... "when it matters the most, make it MD/Hi-MD" C-YA!!! Peace Out , Ray Jackson MDCF/ATB/ALC/Head-Fi user ID: BIGHMW

Me too dude. I also have a ton of home/portable/car/professional MD/Hi-MD players/recorders already stockpiled, and I am now even having second thoughts of selling most of them because they are getting more and more rare, in fact the main reason why I have ads up in the classifieds is mostly money-oriented. I know that many of you, as well as myself (thanks to this board and all of you) have already done the same in stockpiling units, discs (both MD and Hi-MD), and accessories (cases, remotes, phones, mics, etc.), both Sony/Sharp OEM, as well as the vast aftermarket from overseas (thanks to both eBay and Audio Cubes as well as BuyFromJapan [THE place to go for genuine Sony gear available only in Japan]). Just like all of us want to keep the format alive and kickin', we all have one catchy slogan or another as to our loyalty to this terrific format (like "Use The Power Of The Source"), or even mine which somehow goes a little like this..... ATRAC or DEATH!!! P.S.: I only use CD-R's to back up what I already have on MD incase the original discs get lost or (even worse!) stolen, and that's it. Peace Out bros, Ray Jackson MDCF/ATB/ALC/Head-Fi user ID: BIGHMW

Ditto, although my MDCF handle is BIGHMW. I too, am a MiniDisc Freak (since 1998), and also a passionate Hi-MD enthusiast as well. Just remember to use (and harness) the Power of The Source, for it is a human one, and also this battle cry that I have sworn by for almost 10 years.... ATRAC or DEATH!!!
