Ah, I think you were reading a discussion on Reddit, rather than the wiki? The Reddit discussions are often full of nonsense, sadly. You do occasionally get some nice pictures of people’s kit though :-)

Ah, I’d noticed a lot of the contributions on the r/minidisc Reddit were, err, somewhat less knowledgeable than you get on here (not including myself in that - I’m fairly clueless) but the couple of pages I’d looked at on the Wiki just seemed to be fairly basic information about particular devices. Oh well.

    MiniDisc.wiki

There was some talk in another thread about MiniDisc.org and the fact that, amazing though it is, it hasn't been updated in a long time and many of the links etc are dead. This reminded me of something I had seen over on r/minidisc on Reddit about a new MiniDisc.wiki site. The person who set it up posted about it HERE The wiki itself can be found HERE It's pretty sparse at the moment tbh but could well be worth keeping an eye on and, being a wiki, it's editable. Anyone else noticed its existence?
  4. Haha :-D Checking my profile, it appears I've been here for coming up to six years. I think that must have been around when I started getting interested in the format again. Quite a newbie compared to some, I'm sure. I think the site was fairly quiet for a few years though with very little traffic IIRC.
  5. Interesting! That's the sort of comparison I've been intending to do but never quite find the time.
  6. Whereas the MDS-JB940 and MDS-JB980 appear to have the same AK4524 ADC/DAC as your MDS-JE530.
  7. Just checked the service Manual and my MDS-JE500 has the same CXD8607 DAC/ADC.
  8. Would be good to capture that sort of information somewhere as MiniDisc.org can be a bit variable between the level of detail for different machines (that's not intended as a criticism - I think it's an amazing resource and has been incredibly useful for me personally). I keep meaning to do some comparisons between my various decks to see whether I can genuinely pick up on the supposed improvements in sound quality. I was intending to produce a test MD with the same song recorded on it in SP by my MDS-JE500 (ATRAC 4) and one of my QS decks (Type R) and then also record it in LP2 and LP4 so I can compare playback between my MDS-JB940 and MDS-JB980 (Type S). I'm pretty sure my later decks sound better but would like to try to prove it to myself somehow.
  9. :-) Trying to keep this vaguely on topic, you mentioned that you've also got an MDS-JE530 in another thread. Have you ever compared the two models in any great detail? Specs wise it looks like the 530 had a few updates (Type R, 24 bit ADC) but just wondered how noticeable these were in real world use.
  10. Thanks Richard. The MZ-E730 and MZ-E630 were the two I'd noticed. Anyway, I'm derailing Kevin's thread here so I'll maybe take that discussion somewhere else :-)
  11. Does anyone know whether this happened? Sod's law, I can't find my USB-B cable to check for myself.
  12. Certainly is a very glowing review! Thanks for posting. Re MiniDisc.org, does anyone know who owns that site and whether they still make any updates? I noticed the other day that a couple of Sony portables were missing. Didn't know whether it was worth notifying the webmaster via the site somehow or whether it was run by anyone on here.
  13. Well, it's completely vanished from eBay now (including details of the previous "sold" listing) so I think you're right that something shady was going on...
  14. The page for the PC Link kit (PCLK-MN10/MN10A) says: But all the photos I can find of the PCLK-MN10 show it having a mini-DIN connector, rather than the 3.5mm jacks used by the Control A1 system. Probably best we rely on first hand knowledge from people who have used the system rather than what I am scrabbling together from, potentially inaccurate, web sources and my own speculation ;-)
  15. @NGY, ah, okay. Thanks! I was getting a bit confused because the implementation on the Japanese MDS-JB940 seems to be different, at least it is according to MiniDisc.org MiniDisc.org says that PC Link on the MDS-JB940 works via the digital optical input (for audio transfer) and can also be controlled from a PC (via Control A1(II) or via the keyboard PS/2 port?) Unfortunately the English manual I have for the MDS-J940 makes no mention of PC Link as it looks like it was a Japan only function. Looks like the implementation on the MDS-JE770 was different with everything going through the PS/2 port on the front?
  16. Going by the specs on MiniDisc.org (I don't have any of these machines), the MDS-JE770 is both PC Link and PS/2 keyboard compatible. The MDS-JE470 has PC Link but no PS/2 keyboard port.
  17. The one that "sold" last night is back on eBay this evening. Bidding currently at £155 with 21 hours left. Seems a bit odd. Still just the one blurry picture and a short auction period.
  18. Thanks for the translation Richard. Either theory would make sense.
  19. Quite like those. I wonder what PoSHE meant to people in Japan?
  20. I think you're right sfbp, the page for the MDS-JB940 on MiniDisc.org says that it can be used with PC Link (PCLK-MN10) but there is no mention of this in the manual for my MDS-JB940 (UK model). Looks like the PCLK-MN10 connects via the optical digital input on the deck. I wonder whether it would work with my UK model but they just didn't mention it in the manual as the PC Link kit was unavailable outside of Japan? Or whether the necessary "innards"* are absent? * Technical term ;-)
