Does it have SPDIF connections on the rear?
-
If it’s anything like the 8i6 then phantom power will only be on the XLR input. Best to check the manual though.
-
No problem. Glad you’ve got it sorted.
-
You can find the instructions on how to do that here: http://minidisc.org/r30_manual/MZ-R30e.htm#Labeling_recordings
-
Yes, you can title a disc. What machine do you have?
-
Great work M1JWR. It’s always encouraging to see another deck saved.
-
Not familiar with that deck but had a quick root about and it looks very similar to this Orion MDC-201 deck? http://minidisc.org/Orion.jpg

Google’s not turning up anything for me tbh. Is it the user manual you’re after or the service manual? Looks like you can get the latter on eBay, if you’re prepared to pay.
-
I think you'll need a donor unit with the same type of drive. The MDS-JE480 has the MDM-7S1A drive mechanism. The MDS-JE780 and MDS-JB980 use the same one.
-
Sorry, should have mentioned that the Service Manual states that the Rec Level knob and the AMS knob are the same part.
-
Not sure if it might help you locate one but, according to the Service Manual, the part numbers are: 4-227-834-01 KNOB (AMS) (BLACK)...(BLACK) 4-227-834-11 KNOB (AMS) (SILVER)...(SILVER)

I would have thought swapping the drive mechanism would be the easiest option. They're just fixed with four screws and then you'd need to connect up a couple of ribbon cables and the earth.
-
My first thought was something to do with pitch control but I had a quick look at the manual and, as Kevin says, it doesn't look like the MDS-JE480 has that functionality. Had you accessed the service menu before this became an issue James? Is the playback just high pitched? Or sped up? Or both?

Thanks for confirming re the "PRO" thing Bluecrab. The poster on TH hasn't reported back yet but it will be interesting to hear how they've got on.
-
Thanks Bluecrab. Quick question: does your MDS-E10 display “MDS-E10 PRO” on the screen when you power it on?
-
Interesting. I had assumed that the person over on TH having issues was trying to record using their MDS-E10 as the recorder and that SCMS was preventing this (which shouldn't be the case based on your testing - assuming the "PRO" model is the same as the non-"PRO" version). Having re-read their post, however, there is nothing to confirm this is the way round they were doing things.
-
Don't know what you're talking about Freddy ;-)
-
I've posted a link over at TH so hopefully it'll help the person out. Thanks again for going to the trouble of making a video Kevin.
-
Thanks Kevin. I’ll post a link back to this thread over on TH.
-
Hope you're feeling better D[n]A! How have you got the AVR / PC connected? In your original post you seem to have maybe got the digital out/in the wrong way around?

Someone over on Tapeheads has just posted about having issues with SCMS on their MDS-E10: http://www.tapeheads.net/showthread.php?t=83189 Does anyone know how to disable SCMS on that machine? I've found the Service Manual now but, although it indicates it can be switched on or off, it does not explain how to do this. Any ideas?
-
Unless you really need the space or the money then I would definitely keep it. The price of decks seems to be going up and you may find it more difficult to acquire a replacement in the future if you ever needed to. Oh, and as Kevin says, you can never have too many MiniDisc machines ;-)
-
Hi Kris. The app doesn’t currently work with the MDS-JB980. Stefano’s looking into it with some help from Fabrickator so there’s a chance he’ll be able to get it working.

Hi John. You can download the "ultimate edition" of SonicStage 4.3 from this site:
-
Yeah, I cannot see any evidence that it's MDLP compatible from the pictures I've found.
