  1. I will take a photo of it now to show you what I mean. Information is displayed as normal - but the A-Z at the top used to be in 3 sections, A-M N-R Q-Z (not in that order, but similar - now it only shows A-Z
  2. That's very funny as I had also been whining about it, until I realised I don't even need a firmware upgrade, I just 'wanted' it to make sure my player was 'new' like the others! There's absolutely no reason at all for me to need anything other than what I already have, and I love my 808 to bits, with/without drag and drop.
  3. Hi, help me please! For some unknown reason I cannot use the full A-Z search for albums anymore. I can still use it for artist and song etc, as it displays A-M and N-Z, so I can scroll up/down - right/left to search more quickly, but album search brings up only one option, A-Z This means having to scroll through the whole list rather than being able to jump to a certain section. I haven't altered any settings either on the player, or in SS options, so I have no idea why this has suddenly happened. I've already reset the player in the hope it would bring back the full A-Z function for album search, but no luck. Has anyone else had this problem suddenly surface for no reason? All that shows up now is just A-Z, with nothing in between. With about sixty albums, it's really inconvenient to have to scroll through individually. Any help would be appreciated. By the way, my first album begins with 'B', and last album begins with 'W'. Thanks
  4. OK, well. . . big egg on face I think!! It seems (though I'm not entirely convinced) that I've been using the 706 with the skip function, not the 808. The reason being, that the + and - buttons are now dead to me too I put the 808 in a few hours ago and couldn't get it to skip at all, then I put the 706 in - and it worked. The strange thing is my partner remembers when I first 'activated' the 808 'skip'. . . and I remember thinking how great my full-screen cover art looked when I flipped albums. . . and I remember trying it the other day. . . I'm still in the process of trying various other things. . . we can't both have imagined we saw the albums skip, and if we did. . . then the men in white coats should come and get us fast
  5. I don't know if it's a sequence, all I know is I was going to send the unit back, because no matter which buttons I pressed (and I pressed ALL of them) I just couldn't skip albums. I tried in vain on and off for about a week and then gave up and decided to get rid of it. When I told my partner I was taking it back because it didn't function properly, he suggested I try it one last time. . . 'just to make sure', so I did, and when I pressed the + button again, it skipped albums. . . needless to say he assumed I'd only 'thought' I'd pressed the + and - buttons). I can only assume that when I was impatiently pushing all the different buttons down in a temper . . . I must have hit a sequence that activated the 'skip' function. Why else am I the only one who can use the feature? And why did I have exactly the same problem everyone else is experiencing? And where is all this in the user manual? It's not, because that's the first place I looked when the function wouldn't work. Anyway, I'd said I would video the 808 in action and show you that I can definitely skip albums using the + and -, but I didn't get time. But I will definitely do it tomorrow and upload it to youtube and post the link here. Although it won't help anyone with the 'sequence' - at least it will show it's possible.
  6. YES! If it's true they (to quote ceres) 'caved' into consumer demand - then I guess it shows as a group, we can actually make a difference. However, if they were planning to release the update anyway, and hadn't got round to telling us. . . still, the end result is what we wanted. Even though I have no plans (as yet) to update, it's nice to know I have the option. Also, if someone were to flout their 'new' 818 in front of me. . . I could flout right back
  7. Zizzypops I see from your avatar that those are the new Sony headphones due out in October. I am more than happy with my new Denons but my brother's b/day is coming up and I might like to treat him to a pair of the Sonys. From what I can make of the photos - how the hell do they fit? They seem bent at an angle I know how the EX90's fit - but these look nothing like them - plus they're really really expensive. Good job I love my brother!
  8. When it says: "2) drop both icon and autorun.inf file into the device of your choice." - drop it in how exactly? Through 'my computer'? Sorry if that's a stupid question, but I don't know if it's done without SS being open

    A808 Video

Thank you. I tried using the left arrow (as I have the view in widescreen) and that rewound the clip back in steps, to the beginning, but the 'up' arrow takes it right back to the beginning. Thanks a lot

    NW-A808 Cover Art

There are quite a few threads about album art, it seems to pose a problem only until you get the hang of it! My suggestion is don't assume the artwork will transfer to your player just because you see it in SS. Drag the artwork over to the main album cover in SS, (even if you can see it's already there!) and then you'll be asked if you want to assign the artwork to individual tracks as well. But take a look at the links below to give you an idea of other users tips and advice. http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?...mw-a808+artwork http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?...mw-a808+artwork http://www.atraclife.com/forums/index.php?...mw-a808+artwork

    S700 on the cheap.

If it's either the 706 or 808 there's definitely no limit on the European models

    A808 Video

Whenever I go back to watch the same video clip on my 808, I always have to go into the menu first and select: 'Play video from beginning', as the clip stays at the end. Sorry if this has been covered in another thread, I did do a search but didn't find this particular issue anywhere. There don't seem to be settings to enable playback to automatically go back to the beginning when it's finished. Any ideas anyone? Thanks
  13. OK, I'll post it on youtube (under a title no one would search for as who apart from us wants to see a + and - buttons in action LOL) then I'll post the link on here. I'll definitely do it tomorrow as I'm really curious as to why I can do it. At least you'll see the exact process I use
  14. The user manual? Good luck with that! That's where I looked first to see which buttons did what, but I couldn't find anything on how to flip albums. OK, my settings are: playback range - all range. . . play mode - normal, so we all have the same settings. Now to figure out why I can flip and you can't. . . or what the sequence was, if indeed, there *is* a sequence. I can't see why there would be, on the other hand, it would explain why it took me almost a week to access it. I can take a camera video of exactly what I do so you can see the albums changing if that helps, except how would I post it?? Whatever happens, it has to be simple to figure out. At least you know it's possible, even though you can't do it yet. . .
  15. That's exactly the same remote control number as mine and I can skip albums with the + and - symbols. Check to see what settings you have your player on. I had a hard time for ages before finding out how to skip albums. To be honest, I could have sworn I'd pressed every single button when I was first trying to flip albums, and when I finally hit the right button, I thought it was very strange because I was convinced I'd already tried that way! Unless there's some special sequence that activates those particular buttons, I can't think how I'm able to use mine now and yet neither of you can. Regardless of that, if we are using exactly the same equipment, you should be able to operate it exactly as I do. I suggested the first poster report back with the player settings so I could compare them with mine, incase the player settings are taking precedence over the remote control. It's not ideal to have to press the button down to skip through tracks to get to the next album, but I also did this till I hit the magic 'sequence'???
  16. Price isn't always a consideration if SQ is valued above all else, and I don't see any value at all in buying an iPod if the SQ is inferior just because I can save some money. How long will it be before the extra money is forgotten about and all that lingers is the nastiness that pumps through my ears every day? And I don't know what a Sony 'freak' is. . . but I can't see I'll ever 'wake up' and discover I now enjoy inferior SQ. If that makes me a freak. . . then I guess I'm a freak
  17. That's odd, I tested mine yesterday and it's definitely the + and - symbols. As we're using exactly the same equipment, there's no reason that they shouldn't operate the same way. My player settings are set to normal as far as I remember. Are you on 'repeat' maybe, so that the remote control is overridden by the player settings? If you post back the exact settings in your player, I can then check mine against it - once we sync both players, then you can try again. It has to work, it's the same speaker system!
  18. Funny, volume is the one thing I have absolutely no problem with. I listen at around 60% of maximum, which is loud enough and leaves plenty in reserve, at least with the 706 and 808. I could complain about lots of other things, as I'm sure we all could - but I think the volume output on these units is amazing, and definitely one of its strengths along with the sound quality. If my Sony daps didn't excel in this area, I'd have looked for another player a long time ago
  19. The thing is the 8xx is it's still readily available to buy new, (at least here in the UK) whether or not it's been discontinued hasn't seemed to affect its ease of purchase. Someone else pointed out their device is still under warranty, mine is too. So if MS includes an update that renders SS useless - Sony must take that into account when considering the warranty, the obligation they have to the consumer and the fact a lot of existing customers will be so hacked off they might never buy another Sony product. I plan to use both my 706 and 808 for a good few years before upgrading. They weren't cheap, I like them a lot, and so I don't want Sony deciding when I should replace them Also, for people who were to buy the 'old' 808 tomorrow, shouldn't there be some sort of warning attached that it may be unusable if/when MS screw up SS? I'm not even bothered about the firmware upgrade anymore, as I don't want to have to convert my existing lossy Atrac formats to another lossy format. . . and I still want gapless, but I do want to be able to use SS for the lifespan of my daps and not worry that one day I'll click on SS and nothing will happen. . . :o I'm going to contact them tomorrow, I don't have any hope that I'll find anything out, but I need to be proactive!! I'm simply going to ask about my 'rights' as a consumer to be able to use my dap in the way it was intended to be used. If they stop supporting SS, it means the product is no longer suitable for my use. So Sony has broken the contract. I'll report back if I hear anything remotely useful.
  20. I have the same model and it took me forever to find out what to press to change albums. Look at the second section of the remote control, the black part - do you see the plus and minus symbols? Plus makes it flip forward one album, and minus goes back to the previous album. Funny you mentioned the same 'problem', I had the other version before without wi-fi and it was great being able to change albums. When I got this one it was supposed to be exactly the same, but with extra features. I was really disappointed and was about to take it back, after a week of somehow never pressing the right button, I finally got it! I've given you the sequence as I remember it, if it's wrong, tell me and I'll put my 808 in the cradle and double check for you
  21. They've been out of stock for a while and there's nothing to say if/when they'll get new stock. With the release of the 'improved' 808 - would it make sense for John Lewis (or any other stores with this promotion) to order in new stock of the now antiquated 808?

    S700 on the cheap.

It was definitely the pink ones Woot were selling, unless they also sold the violet one but I don't remember seeing tons of violet ones on eBay. I did see page after page of pink 706 4GB though

    What sony should have done

Wouldn't it be nice if Sony sent all its 'valued' (and I use the term loosely) customers a questionnaire to fill in about the things they'd like implemented before they rush in and change everything first. It could be a simple multiple-choice questionnaire which would give them valuable feedback in advance of their actions. As we are their 'target' doesn't that make sense? At least they would have some idea of what it would take to keep existing customers and attract new ones. The trouble is their products are so good that it's hard to turn to something else. It would just be a nice gesture to consider the loyal customers they have and to show that they care about what we want.
