Well, if this was a contest, which it isn't, RoGeR-atrac is the only 'serious' contender for the "I-have-the-most-Sony-products-and-a-disease" award, closely followed by Pata and Markey. RoGeR, did you know how many you had before you counted them?

I've never seen them, but I will definitely have a look out of sheer curiosity. Tesco mp3 players, wow, what next?? Sometimes I think it would be nice if my ears weren't so fussy and I could choose any old mp3 player and be happy with it, like my friends, instead of analysing the SQ to death and rejecting anything that isn't 100%. I think it's a disease

No no no, your wife is mad! These are not gadgets, they are necessities of life. A gadget is something you don't need, a necessity is something you do need. Well, that's my rather limp excuse anyway

Ditto on the TV. That was because my friend had one and I was really impressed with the picture and sound quality. The first portable Sony CD player I had was given to me for a birthday present, and I loved it. So my choices for portable audio after that were deliberately 'Sony' because I liked the sound so much. I would probably still stick with Sony for portable audio and TVs, only because I've been so happy with them in the past. It's a kind of 'play safe' mentality, but having looked at the age of some of the products owned on here, it seems to be the right choice as they seem to last for ever! I think my only beef would be lack of spare parts. The right speaker on the TV has been knackered for ages but there is nowhere to buy a speaker for it. And as the original remote died on me, there's no way to shift the balance slightly from left to right to reduce the muffledness. But until I can afford another TV I'll have to live with it! As for the Vaio, well you know what I did with that (!!) so I'm only loyal to Sony if their products meet my expectations

It's quite funny, when you first mentioned fancy LCD and Plasma tvs, it got me to thinking that just 8 relatively short years ago, I had No mobile phone - First I had to find a phone box, and then I had to queue up like an animalNo satnav - I rarely strayed 20 miles from home because my sense of direction is abysmal. As for reading a map,  forget it. It could be in Hindi for all I know. It makes no sense, everything is upside down and 'blue' means water? I thought it was the sky. I only kept A-Zs in the car so that when I got lost, strangers in the street could tell me how to get home! My friends would draw big childlike maps with large arrows pointing in the direction I had to go. As you can imagine, satnav has changed my life! No digital camera - I had to use a primitive Nikon jobbie, go to a chemist, get them developed - again, like an animal, and half of them always featured some big thumb, (mine) and then I had to pay money to print that big thumb! Now I do them myself, so much more civilised. No computer/internet - I love being able to find out answers immediately. For example, I see an actor, I know he's been in something before - I go to the IMDB and find out where I know him from. I think of a song, I can't remember who sung it, I type in a few lyrics, and hey presto, there's my answer. It's instant magic and no more going to bed fretting about a song I can't remember all night! Although this method doesn't work for instrumentals, as my dear friend Kenny who was bugged to death for weeks about a song, was finally and humiliatingly forced to go to his local CD store and 'whistle' the entire song in front of all the staff!! After much bemusement and scratching of heads, a very old doddery assistant correctly identified it as 'Whistling Jack Smith'. He then shuffled slowly down to the store room, shuffled back an age or two later and offered him the record for £5. Kenny said very politely: "Oh, no thanks. I just wanted to know what it was called" and then he left. No Sony daps or Sony CD players - I used my tape cassette Walkman, (like a caveperson) regularly tightening up the tape that would inevitably come loose, and chucking out TDK C120s after 2 uses as they always got chewed up. And then listening to the 3-minute silences at the end of the tape where there was not enough room to put another song. My daps have changed everything. I constantly marvel at how easy it is to listen to music wherever and whenever. And to think, I started my musical journey with an old record player that had the option of stacking 6 singles - and if you were lucky, they dropped individually with the needle landing on the actual record and not on the turntable. . . I used pennies to keep the needle down to skim over the scratches and the middles of my singles always fell out and I'd have to go the record shop and ask for a spare one! How primitive is that? TV Recording - No such thing when I was young, you watched it or you missed it. Now I have a Freeview box that can store 40 hours of programs, plus I can pause or rewind live TVEven with all this wonderful technology, I still recall (with a lot of fondness) the Saturdays when we'd choose a friend's house to go to, pick our favourite LPs to listen to, and sing all the words to all the songs very very loudly while pulling out the posters and reading all the credits. Then we would tape ourselves singing! Those were the days, simple, but a lot of fun. . . even we did have to queue up for the phone like animals!

No idea at all, so I just looked here: http://hometheater.about.com/od/lcdtvfaqs/f/lcdfaq2.htm LCD seems to be more expensive and has smaller screens, but I think you should read it all on my behalf and then tell me which one I want

Well of course!! I was drooling over some earlier at Amazon. I'd like 2 TVs, one for casual watching, and one for music/concerts/ballet etc. They never look so good on a small screen so it would be brilliant to have a massive TV just for that. I wouldn't like to watch normal TV on it though, I don't like the thought of big faces staring at me from the screen! I don't mind in the cinema, but I don't want to be that close to giant faces at home.

I had one last year and sold it within 2 weeks. The fan noise drove me up the wall. Never mind the listening levels on the daps, the fan noise was so loud I thought a mechanical digger was outside. When I 'Googled' it, I saw I wasn't the only one with the problem. It wasn't a problem as such, as it used a desktop processor which is noisier anyway. But I couldn't live with it. And my lust for a Vaio was firmly quenched and doused on the first day. I think I'll stick to daps, radio alarms, TVs, walkmans, Sony don't need any more of my money!!

Aaaah - but did you know you had them??? I think my TV is at least 10 years old and still going strong, unlike the remote control which isn't made anymore so I can't fully access the menus. I don't know if I'll get widescreen in the future, everyone looks short, round and fat on it. It's most disconcerting

So I was spring cleaning today, a little late, yes - and was surprised to see how many Sony things I owned. Apart from the recent purchases of the 808, 706, and the speaker system for the daps, I'd forgotten that the 2 Walkman CD players, the old tape-cassette Walkman, 3 radio alarm clocks, and 10-year-old TV were all Sony. I have 10 Sony products and I thought I had about 4. It's like I was integrated into a cult without even knowing.
  17. I couldn't see the heading you mentioned above. Cool flash drive though, I might get that for my unsignficant other for his birthday
  18. I would really keep your focus on that. And tell them it makes you feel wary about purchasing any more Sony products if this is how you're going to be treated when you have a problem with a product. Add words like; disappointed, humiliated, upset, etc etc that a customer should be treated in this sub-standard manner when you've been a loyal customer over several years blah blah blah. I would really sink my teeth into this one. I had the same problem with Comet having bought washing machines, fridges, and dishwashers from them over the years. When they refused to replace my faulty 3-day-old TomTom claiming it wasn't faulty after testing it in front of me - I kept explaining that it was the battery that was faulty, it didn't hold a charge for longer than 30 minutes. They said no one had ever bought one back because of a faulty battery, not a single unit had ever been returned and I was welcome to send it back to the manufacturers if I wanted. Blatant dismissal of consumer law of course, but just like you in the Sony store, I was made to feel like I was complaining about a product when there was nothing wrong with it! Why did I bring it in then? I got it replaced after getting Tradings Standards involved but I shouldn't have had to. It makes me wonder if Comet and Sony staff undertake the same customer-service training course
  19. Ditto! Tweenies would love it though. It makes me wonder why Sony bring out players that are designed to attract such a small minority of people. And what about the guys? I don't see any football-shaped or ferrari-shaped players for them! LOL
  20. So what if you were the first person back in the store with a problem? What does that mean? What's he implying? That there's nothing wrong with it, it works perfectly, and you have nothing better to do than to complain about a perfectly functional product?? What a patronising idiot. Ring them immediately and tell them exactly how you were treated. Ask to speak to a supervisor/manager and drop in how many Sony products you've got at the same time. If you really can't be bothered to call them, I'll do it for you and refer to you as my cousin or something!! That kind of treatment drives me mad. But it's not just Sony, throw in Comet, PC World, Currys - customer service is an oxymoron these days, it just doesn't exist. I'm always complaining on other people's behalf over issues like this, I get madder than they do. If you do bother to call, make absolutely sure you get hold of someone with authority and make sure you let them know there must be other people tolerating this appalling customer service who don't bother to report it. I am mad as hell now! What CHEEK!
  21. Are they marketing this for women?? I can't see any man wanting to be seen playing with a lipstick' can you??
  22. Make a note of what you've already done so Sony don't waste time doing the same thing
  23. If it's only the first time, that's good odds. Pop in after work and let them have a look at it, they might sort it out immediately and your problem will be over. But let us know what happens!
  24. Hi, sorry to hear about your computer. About the transfer of songs from your HD3 > SonicStage > HD5, it's not possible unless the songs are already in your SS library. I found this out the hard way a while ago when I deleted around 20 CDs from the library and naively assumed I could transfer them back from the 706. If you still have the original discs, you could re-import them, but this time, use the SS backup tool as soon as your library is up and running again. If you have to get a new computer again or format Windows etc, then make sure you load SS on first, before using the backup took to restore the library. I'm fairly sure this is the way to do as I remember reading about it on here very recently. Sympathy from someone who's been there
  25. So they're not from an original DVD then. I have some DVDs in xvid format but they're not sitcoms and I made them through some atrocious movie-maker software on the laptop. Are your sitcoms downloads?
