Can I ask what format your sitcoms are in? Are they on disc, and you just load them after converting? I have some 'Will and Grace' and 'Seinfeld', it might be fun to put on an episode of each and see what it's like. But I have no idea how to copy the disc to my laptop and then convert and transfer to the 808. In fact I've never been able to put a DVD on the laptop because of the copyright issues. How do you get round that? Or are the sitcoms you transferred from somewhere else? No no no no no! He would say: "Could I *be* any more satisfied"?
-
Does that happen with all the CDs? Does it mean you've made lots of pretty coasters?? Maybe you could try a different brand of disc (unless you already have), but I find my laptop doesn't like certain brands and I recall making 20 coasters from a set of 20 Maxell discs ---------------------------------------------------------------- Will try for the re-register option but why do they do this. I have to agree with you on that. I've learned to burn any downloads from Connect to a cd-rw immediately, but I wish there was an easier way to do it as I have to remember to have a disc available.
-
Once or twice, yes, and I had to ask them to re-activate the download which they did, but they said it was a 'special' circumstance or something like that! I think I had inadvertently deleted it from the library and wanted to get it back via the download area, but there was no option available to do it. They should re-activate it if you ask, it shouldn't be a big deal. By the way, I have SS 4.3 and there is an option to create an Atrac CD in the drop-down menu I haven't used the feature but I have seen it

Sony cradle/docking station CPFNW001 for NW A8** series
juli_ replied to 1TrackMind's question in Audio
I don't use low bitrates (mainly because I don't have a huge collection and space isn't an issue) so I don't know about distortion, everything is 256kbps and above. The sound is phenomenal, really amazing for something that is so small. Anyone who has heard it thought the music was coming from the speakers on the wall, as the sound is so big and encompassing. The only slight setback is finding a good position for it as the closer you are to the speaker system, the more the music 'closes' in on you - move further away and the sound spreads through the whole room. We're a bit short of shelf space here so at the moment it's a case of putting it where there's room to access it easily. It's also easy enough to move and the other evening (when it was beautifully balmy weather) I simply moved it towards the patio doors and plugged it in there and the music was playing in the garden. So it's very adaptable which is useful. As for those poor people who bought it for the wi-fi. . . I feel sorry for them as there is not a single good review about this unit at Amazon due to the complications of setting it up - and the fact the internet radio drops out unless the unit is close to the router, but the other model without wi-fi has much better reviews because it's only been judged on the sound, not the software. What I really like is the ability to have all my music playing from the cradle. With playlists so easy to set up I can arrange an evening's worth of music without having to do a thing, and as I said, the sound is amazing through the speaker system. I am always surprised and delighted as soon as it starts up! -

I have no idea if the wi-fi part works as I gave up shortly after loading the software. One look at the instructions left me quite dizzy and I had to lie down for a while to recover Actually I have no plans to use the wi-fi, I'm just using it for the player. But one day in the future in a galaxy far far away, I may attempt to try it again. It has horrendous reviews regarding the set up so I didn't bother to go any further! -
Sony cradle/docking station CPFNW001 for NW A8** series

Wow, if you got it for £39.99 that's an amazing bargain. Argos was actually giving the wi-fi version away free with the A808 (when the 808 was at its full price of £200) during a 2-day sale or something. There were some reviews about the wi-fi being almost impossible to set up, but because the cradle had been 'free' it wasn't considered the end of the world. That was an amazing sale I missed, but at least I got the cradle for £99.99 just before Argos increased the price back to £199.00. It doesn't come up in the search because Argos are listing it as a "Sony 2.1 Channel Cradle Audio System" rather than its more 'catchy' title of CPF-NW001. It's listed here http://www.argos.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/s....x=0&go.y=0 -

I would cancel the order with Sony immediately. After all, they don't have it in stock so you should be refunded so you can buy it elsewhere. It's available at Amazon - http://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-CPF-NW001-Cra...N/dp/B000K9FJCK for £129.99 (a saving of £50 on the Sony Style price) and http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronic...;searchsource=0 also for £129.99, both offer free delivery. It's a really good product, in fact I reviewed it at Amazon and Play.com because it was so good. I sold it and got the one with wi-fi which was on sale at Argos for £99.99, it's exactly the same as the previous model, just with extra features. You can save £50 and get it immediately. You'll love it! It's also comaptible with the A800 series -
It really is, isn't it? Plus I love how simple and fast it is to navigate through the menu. I can find whatever I need almost instantaneously, it's a miracle. Although I haven't used the video part of it, I do love using the full album art display, it's so clear and vibrant. And it's the fastest-responding dap I've used, it's absolutely amazing. US would just love it if they got the chance to try it, feel it, listen to it. How frustrating for them.

Hahaha - almost a balanced meal!

Oh, I see. Yes, different problems as I only wanted to delete the playlist. I think the reason why you can't delete songs from the playlist view in the library, is because the playlist is just a 'virtual' copy of the songs, not the songs themselves. I guess it's like deleting something that doesn't actually exist. But take this suggestion from someone who couldn't figure out the shuttle switch until very recently
-
I finally solved the problem and discovered it was my own silly fault. I had been deleting the playlist from the library, not from the player. I assumed this is how it was supposed to be removed. I thought when it was deleted from the library - from 'view playlists' it would automatically delete the list from the player when it was plugged in. By chance I clicked on 'playlists' under player views, (never even noticed the dropdown menu before!) and I found the playlists there. I deleted the first playlist and it has now disappeared. I feel a bit stupid as it was right under my nose the whole time and I didn't even see it. Sorry everyone, sometimes I can't see what's right in front of me! On the plus side (for me that is) - since I joined this wonderful forum I have finally learned how to use the shuttle switch and how to delete playlists. With my previous 706, my ignorance meant I couldn't do either, now I am enjoying it even more
-
Well, I think we should all partake in a 2-minute silence to mark this solemn occasion. Anyway, you might not like the iPod sound after a Sony
-
I will do a reset later, I know it doesn't delete the files, thank goodness. My only concern was that this is my second 706, and it behaves in exactly the same way as the first. I'll do the reset anyway, I have nothing to lose except an unwanted playlist
-
I can hear the difference between 192 and 256 quite clearly, mainly because I listened to the same tracks side by side. Higher bitrate seemed to be louder and have more detail, but maybe the difference between 160 and 192 isn't so audible. Try copying some favourite tracks you know very well at differing bitrates and then decide which you'd be happy with. That's what I did, and I settled for 256 as I don't need tons of space for my collection, it's not that big.
-
I have problems with SS quite frequently, some do, some don't. I get regular freezes and occasional crashes, but I love my daps more than I dislike SS. Plus all my other software is easy peasy to use, so it's not such a big deal to have one application that's more temperamental. As you say, it gets the music on, that's the main thing
-
Nice, I'm sure you'll enjoy it. I noticed it got mediocre reviews because of the software (what's new?) not the sound. The sound is supposed to be excellent as usual. It would be nice to see reviews split into hardware and software, because the only negative things I read about Sony daps involves SS frustrations, and I guess to the uninitiated, it could come as a bit of a shock! If sound could be rated separately to the software, maybe more people would think of buying one, but I'm sure when they start seeing low ratings, they assume the sound is rubbish and don't look any further.
-
Please tell me how you did it. I can do it in SS library. I view 'playlists' and it shows me 2 playlists, so I delete one playlist from there and it's gone. When I view playlists on the player - the deleted playlist is still there. Did you find a setting on the player itself, or did you delete the same way I did? And if you deleted the same way I did, then your playlist disappeared from the 706? I guess I can always delete the tracks from the library, then put them back once the playlist has finally gone. It would be nice to find a less complicated way, but at least I can do it if I have to.
-
More likely I'm missing the obvious. I've never been able to delete a playlist directly from the 706 - I can trash stuff, and delete bookmarks directly from the 808, but the 706 doesn't seem to offer the same option unless I've missed some simple setting somewhere. I have honestly never managed to delete a playlist from the 706!
-
I deleted the folder from within SS and left just the second playlist on. The songs still play. When I had the 706 before (before I sold and bought it again!), I had exactly the same problem. I ended up with 4 or 5 playlists that I had deleted from within SS and no longer showed, but they were all still there on the player and I had to keeping scrolling for ages to find what I wanted. I stopped making playlists then, because they seemed to be there permanently, and built up into huge lists that I couldn't navigate efficiently. My 're-bought' 706 only jas 2 dhort lists so far, and already I can't get rid of the first one, it's like a plague
-
I have 'intelligent shuffle' ticked but nothing else, and I disabled 'auto transfer as I found it messed up parts of my track listings. I made 2 playlists on the 706, and deleted the 1st one from the option in the SS library under 'view playlists'. But the playlist is still on the player. I've read loads of pages here but can't find a definitive answer as to how to delete it so it doesn't keep showing up on the player. I will try and trust the auto transfer again and see if it will update and delete the redundant playlist. If not, I will upload a photo of me sobbing
-
Oh, hahahahaha! I guess it depends whether the toilet had been newly flushed
-
Hi there - please help me! I've spent a really long time updating my entire library over the past few days, and now I want to back it up using the SS backup tool. Since I cleaned out the registry of 1000 redundant/invalid entries, I get the 'Omgbkup.exe' error and cannot get past Step 1. If I restore the registry, I can then get the backup tool to work again. Are there registry entries specifically linked to the backup tool? I'd like to clean out the registry but not if it means I can't access the backup tool anymore

Well, that's the first time I've ever been complimented on a 'cute' sentence. How sweet, thank you Dura
