A set of Super.fi 5 pro's for $199...

Actually, Best Buy used to be one of the biggest supporters of MD. When I got into the format back in '98, they sold three combo units (decks and players) and even had a large selection of pre-recorded MD's. Lupin's correct, Sony is the one who abandoned MD. Best Buy (and other retailers) can't make money with electronic equipment that just gathers dust sitting in the store...

Is there a way to punch in the actual latitude and longitude, or do you just have to get close and adjust?
-
Is that a backlit display on the unit? And a digital out? Why did they delete features like these??
-
I don't think its really going to matter what you adjust these settings for. A true digital out (optical or coaxial) is always going to send the same signal. Its the amp or receiving component that is going to process that signal. My Denon DVD player has optical and coax digital outputs as weel as hi resolution analouge outputs for SACD and DVD-A. There are also HDMI and DVI-D outputs. It can all get very confusing! You may want to take a closer look at your DVD player manual. I'm thinking that switch isn't for what you think it is...

Rich's MZ-DH10P Pictorial & Review
culp4684 replied to Richard's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
I've got to go the other way on this one and say I'm not impressed with this unit. The camera isn't really much considering Sony has some fine Cybershot models, and there isn't a mic or line input. Overall, it wouldn't be bad if it sold for about half its retail price. But considering the cost, you're not getting much for your money. -
Be aware that Japanese units w/o a world band tuner cannot pull in the complete FM range in the US. Even if you purchase a converter, you have to make a choice between two separate kinds and it involves leaving out some frequencies either way. Bisjac- There is no car unit that plays Hi-MD's yet. My guess is there will never be one. If you need Hi-MD playback in your car, you'll have to settle with buying a car unit that has a separate line in jack for your portable. If you want both CD and MD playback, you might want to consider a changer like I did...

Are we talking real DVD audio (multichannel...the rival to SACD) here or just the ability to record audio from from a DVD?

I wouldn't worry so much about the scratching....just about any MD unit can be scratched if the conditions are right. My NH1 does have two tiny nicks, but it doesn't impede its performance in any way. The remote, with it's large almost flat plastic surface, is easily scratched. I also have a DR7 which anyone familiar with that model will tell you it's built like a tank. But it has a lot of tiny scratches on it even though I'm pretty careful. Take a look here if you want something custom made to protect an NH1: http://www.cases.com.ar/

I don't really think you can lump the players in with the recorders anyway. Why not just create a category for them? My vote is for the NH1. Most of the gripes I've read here about it are pretty nitpicky since it does more than any other MD unit on the list except for the MP3 capability. From what I understand, the MP3 quality on the 2nd gen units isn't that great anyway...

Tmeg's Sony MZ-DH10P Review & Pictorial
culp4684 replied to tmeg's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
I would tend to agree. Nice unit but not much value for the price. The camera doesn't get much better resolution than most cell phone cameras. I see the price dropping on this one very shortly. Audiocubes has already dropped the price on Sony's 2nd gen EH930 (which I purchased at full price a few months back ) -
With all of the reported problems and deleted features on this unit, I'm sure glad I bought the NH1 instead.

From what I understand, the RH10 and all of the second generation Hi-MD recorders can no longer record in standard SP (Atrac type R). They will play it however. This may not be a big deal for most. But if you own a non HI-MD player or have a car unit and need to replace your current recorder, it could mean everything...
-
I wouldn't worry about it. I've had mine for over two years and I haven't noticed any drop off in power performance.

I wanted to buy a new U.S. version, but it looks like they are no longer available. I would possibly like to buy one in excellent condition if anyone would like to sell.
