  1. Nothin' wrong with wanting to do recordings the old school way. After all, it's not like you have to sit there and watch the recording . As an alternative at the Hi-MD/SS end, try making your recordings at 352 kbps if you're concerned about sound quality. You can fit a little over 90 minutes on a standard disc.
  2. I've had a black RH1 for over a year now and have used it so much some of the white lettering on the body has begun to fade. I'm contemplating getting a backup pretty soon since it looks like Sony has ceased production. Damn, I thought they'd at least manufacture this last unit for a few years like they did with the last DAT recorder...
  3. I guess it's not news that Sony is releasing a brand new unit then....
  4. This makes me all warm and fuzzy to see everybody here! Hopefully T-Board isn't done. Rob and SBG would have heart attacks losing their post counts!
  5. As far as looking for the RM-MC40ELK, avoid the cheap ones on eBay available from China for around $40.00. You'll regret it later if you don't. Buy from Japan has them for quite a bit less than some of our favorite stateside vendors. I would think they'd be a safe bet.
  6. I actually thought li-ons thrived by keeping them on full charge. I believe I read that somewhere in a discussion either here or the T Board. The li-on system is designed that the charge is regulated because overcharging could actually cause serious problems. I'll have to see if I can find the link. Anyhow, supposedly any unit that uses a Li-on can be stored right on its cradle or charger. My MZ-E10 has spent most of it's four year life this way and still runs longer on a single charge than any other player I have. I also do the same with my HD5. However, maybe keeping it plugged in through your computer is different. I usually just keep my RH1 plugged into the AC/USB adapter...
  7. I would just try the old fix of uninstalling and then reinstalling SS 4.3. It couldn't hurt...
  8. Promise not to call your nh600D an MP3 player and maybe someone will... Without further info about your setup, I would just try uninstalling both programs and reinstalling. You can get a later version of SS in the download section of this site.
  9. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the 40ELK is as fully functional on the RH1 as it is on the NH1, EH1 or EH930. When you scroll through the track listings, it normally shows the group name with individual songs in that group on the last three units. But on the RH1 with the 40ELK, there is no group name displayed although the songs are still listed in groups. This may not matter to some, but could be a hassle if you like to put multiple albums on a disc...
  10. Take a look here: http://www.minidisc.org/NetMD_faq.html This should answer most of your questions.
  11. Minidisco now has them in stock according to their website. Would this be a true US version?
  12. I just found out yesterday that Radio Shack is blowing their Hi-MD blanks out at the reduced price of $4.97 each. I picked up four of the newer blue ones at a store in Tuckerton, NJ, today. Check it out if you have a store in your area.
  13. I didn't really need to click on that link...if you read a little further, I'm actually a part of that thread. No offense intended, I really didn't understand what you meant by 'Um, not quite right" and the theme of that whole thread is about blank discs being reduced in price to sell until they're all gone. I was just trying to make a point that you can still purchase Beta videotape blanks, so why worry? I apologize if I misunderstood...
  14. Take a look what is still available from J & R Music: http://www.jr.com/JRProductPage.process?Product=10197 I ain't worried...
  15. Both should sound very similiar because they have the same HD digital amp. Functionally, if you can get by the mediocre camera on the DH10, the NH1 is a better unit.
  16. I just saw the NH600 (two of them, actually) hanging on a hook in the Sears store in Toms River, NJ, yesterday. They still had the old $199 price tags on them! Also, a few weeks ago a saw an NH1 in a case at Palace Electronics at the Freehold Raceway Mall. Those both have to be real rare situations, though...
  17. Like I said, the hissing sound was clearly audible to me when I used the UE Super.fi 5 Pro IEM's. I have listened to my HD5 with Koss Portapros and Shure E2C's and the hissing is not there. The UE's are way more sensitive than most 'phones. I still use the HD5/UE combo quite a bit. The noise does not destort the sound.
  18. I voted no. I'm not into field recording, so this unit leaves me kind of unimpressed. Although it is a welcome sight that Sony is still producing MD units.
  19. I have an NW-HD5 and two Hi-MD units (NH1, EH930). I also recently bought a pair of Ultimate Ears Super.fi 5 Pro's which are an extremely sensitive set of IEM's. I've noticed when listening to the HD5, a slight hiss. It's very low, but clearly audible. I've gotten used to it, but for some individuals it might make a difference. I do not notice that same hiss when listening to the same material on a Hi-MD unit. I'm not quite sure if that means there is something lacking about the HD5 or maybe its just reproducing the imperfections of the original material better than the Hi-MD units. I'd be real interested in knowing if anyone else has noticed this. The UE's are rated at 117db sensitivity, which is pretty high even for IEM's.
  20. I think most Sony MD units have the option to have the backlight on, off, or auto. The auto setting seems to turn off the backlight as soon as the titles completely scroll across the screen. By the way, it's good to hear from you again Ray!
  21. Won't happen. Sony tried that route back in the mid to late 90's and it didn't work. (although it got me into the format!)

    New Hi MD Model?

I'm quite sure you got some individual who either: a. Doesn't know what he's talking about. b. Has confused the RH1 with the RH10. c. Both of the above.
  23. I think just about all of the Sony remotes (except the one for the MZ-E10) are interchangeable. I've actually tried the 40ELK on an old MZ-EP11 (from 1997?) and it works on some of the main finctions.
  24. Like Shoozer, I read the original question as how many Hi-MD units do you have?! I actually have seven (MZ-NH1, MZ-EH930, MZ-N10, MZ-E10, MDR-480, MZ-R500, MZ-EP11) portable units, one KMD-44 car unit and a MDS-JA20ES deck.
