about the jog dial.... uhh the NH900 seems to be the only unit with the jog dial..but i find that's pretty dumb..seeing that with these new units there will be a lot more tracks to browse through n i havne't heard ne thing bout jumping to tracks yet..so it's something i gotta look into and about the bulge at the back..here's what to do to know which unit have it or not check out minidisc.org...n then click on the tab browser. at the top of the page..then look for look for either HI MD which is right at the top of the page or look under the heading Recorders then check SONY..n click on all the very 1st option..then while browsing the units simply check for the type of battery they use..there's Lilon n Gumstick types http://minidisc.org/images/sony_mznh1_liion.jpg if that link works then u'll notice that these batteries r flat...so i'm concluding that the units that use these batteries don't have the hump at the back cuz MDs only use 1 type of battery either the lilon the gum stick or the AA..now once the model is listed to b using an AA..then there's a hump at the back if not n it uses the flat batteries then there's no hump..ok.. :smile: .....so now u know in the futre what to look for... enjoy..

:grin: ....well fellaz. i c yall running outa patience...but take it easy man the thing will come when it have to. :smile: .. n when it does yall b like all wild n stuff spending the next 24 + hrs tweaking it n what not...messing around with it..but i'm thinking as soon as i get mine i gotta get another n start messing with the OS..hopefully they'll release a service manuel as soon as it drops..( sony better make this wait worth it)

ok addressing the speed factor as to errasing n what not..i don't think nothing beats MDs..cuz as for as i know..(my opinion right)..all the MD seems to do is clear the TOC..n then the disk is blank..can someone tell me whether that's true or not....n if so..then i don't c a reason y not to use MD as a replacement to floppy n zip disks...haha we all know that zip disks n drives cost some change...so yeah..think about it

uhh yes there is u can try J&R Music store in NY..or my best bet would on the streets somewhere in NY.... as for minidisco..keep watching their site i assume they'll be the 1st to be selling or advertising different makes of HI-MD..like those collectors disks they got from other makes like TDK...cuz for the time being ppl r only thinking of SONY as the only maker..but in time err 1 will join the band waggon. (it's not like sony makes the most attractive disks neway)

i don't fully unederstand ur question realating to Sonic Stage...i check out the Audible.com n i wanna believe that there's some way of hooking up sonic stage to it cuz i saw in the compatibaility list of devices that the sony ic recorder n the clie were listed..n i'd like to believe that u can sync them some way throuh sonic stage i'm just saying try it out cuz i'm not gonna join the site.. i download my audio books in MP3 through Kazaa or wat eva..format to ATRAC n transfer..i c u don't wanna do it the snail way through realtime recording through ur sound card..cool..but try it out..or maybe it's possible to sync it through Real player onto the md digitally...i'm not sure..but a lil experimenting won't hurt..the best of luck.. :cool:

but don't MDs record with the Magnetic head over the disk?or i think i read that somewhere...am i confused...tell me something...the writable surface is at the bottom the dark side..the bright side.? what does the Magnetic head do there..cuz the lens only read the dark side..does it?...MDs can't record without the magnetic head n i'm sure of that not only that but the head must be in direct allingment with the lens...i'm confused..just reading ur stuff about shorter life span for the disks struck those questions....

right now the world's in the stage where if u remember back in Thomas Edison's days when he was experimenting with the light bulb electriciy was was deemed as a very dangerous thing till u know he turned that all around n made the light bulb n showed good uses for electricity..well right now the world don't c the need for MDs...but they soon will..cuz i believe sooner or later that they will b at the level n probably surpass CDs n believe it..look cassettes gone out the way ..now diskettes soon it might be CD's well CD's might go out cuz of DVDs but when it comes to real portable storage..MD's only gotta compete with flash hardrives..which is stil in it's developing stage..n we all know they pretty expensive..so if the makers of MDs start making more uses for them.they stand a very good chance..but if they keep wasting time..then just as in Edison's days..where GE (general electric) took over the light bulb "phanominum" or revolution so will other storage devices or companies do MD.. i mean ppl think outside of the box for a change.. Look at Bill gates..n Martin Luther King..what did they do.....they took the opportunites at the head of the revolutions so they're known by the revolutions for the revolutions..but it was just thinking outside the box.. what i think sony should do to b at the top is higher some of u gurus n have yall give em some priceless ideas.... :smile: ..it won't be free....but yah..give it some thought..

now just my opinion here right.....one thing i don't like about Sharp MDs..they got too many buttons for basic stuff...i like the cool factor where u gotta navigate through menus to do stuff...it helps when someone who love to tamper but know nothing bout MDs try n play with ur stuff...sometimes i even wish recording was done that way..due to some fast ppl who i've lent my MDs just for a listen n they track mark n record on my stuff..that stuff just pisses me off..but tell me..y have a button for bass...n play moods...to me we're passing that age son....yeah u gotta go through Menus...which i find cool ne way..n i doubt ne 1 who's into SONY's don't.. if u look sharp sooner or later MDS might come out with big lcd displays..probably runing some software that SONY made.. unless....microsoft enters the market ...n starts making an os for Panasonic MDs n Sharp n Kenwood etc.. ..remember what they did with Ericsson phones. ......... who knows better os might mean better capabilities..cuz the way i c this heading.. we might sooner or later b able to navigate MDs as we do with Cameras now..hmm..thinking of which this idea is copy writed.. :grin: ...i'll sue

hmm..when u don't have something u really want it bad then when u get it it's value drops to u....that's how it is with space u know..cuz sooner or later yall won't even b using the entire capacity of the 1GIG..well for music purposes that is..if u want a portable HDD get the Ipod..u want music Get the MD it's that simple..my opinion..it's about time they stop comparing them..i don't think the MP3s can hold down the MD not ne time soon....i mean u can already record very long with a mic in LP4 mood..much less for doing that on a HIMD unit...come on u'll probably run outa stuff to record..for instance..i got this digital camera..n imean before that i wanted one soo bad cuz i spending much cash on rolls of films then to process them...now i got this card...i can take hundreds of pics in one day on a 128MB SD Card.. what do i do with soo many pics now..not a thing..so........MD don't = MP3 n viseversa..please...there's no comparison...speaking of which...who would want an MP3 player ne way..i mean after using cd players for soo long..they soo big..n what not..MDs ur just soo small n most MP3 players big like classic gameboys..i mean even Nintendo got the message...ladies will know :smile: size matters...

now you got me thinking here...then what's the difference between the MD Recording Unit n the MD Player Unit????????? cuz i'm thinking if that's the case..then..a lot of ppl would prefer to buy the Player if u can conect it to ur pc n put stuff on there RIGHt...i mean they players r often much more smaller (not to mention more expensive) but seeing i've never heard of or seen ne Player Units with Recording Capabalities HI MD is almost completely different so u just could be right "i hope" :smile:

1. Uhh not likley to my knowledge Sony have only made a few models where there's light on the unit itself like the SP1 n MZ-NE410 but i could be wrong 2. I agree to an extent yes..i mean from experince with Sony Remotes my 2 favorite were the one that came with the MZR70 n the uhh can't remember the Model but the stick style that comes with the MZR700 or MZN707 (blue n Black) 3. Now that's a good Question uhh as u know i'm only giving opinions right..i'd like to believe it does my reason, well i mean it's a hi MD unit n its pretty much one of the high end ones n HI MD would mean more Music so i link that to mean they expect u to have More music groups...n bearing in mind the purpose 4 the remote is to have ur unit elsewhere while u still got the convinience of editiing n controling what's going on with the Unit itself 4. Now that's a tough Question which i'm sure to b fully right about i would have to get the unit n do a review but checking the way the text is layed out on the Remote it might n might not be so..remotes which suport showing the group information thus far i've seen comes with 2 lines 4 displaying that stuff n thus far this remote seems to only have one. but we'll c ..i'm lost to that one as much as u..

hmm...that's not a bad idea..sounds like a pretty good investment :grin: i mean MP3+ATRAC player/recorder wow the posibilities r endless..but who's gonna develp it.. :grin: ...yeah MP3 is free n to use ATRAC i'm sure u'd have to get sonic stage or open MG to convert ur already MP3 to ATRAC which to my knowledge isn't free like AOL cds n speaking of which have ne one ever tried converting WAV to ATRAC? but i've always thought of if it, like some company other than sony say Sharp develop units in their own style n stop following sony..there i said it Sony's the trend setter when it comes to MDs but it's about time others start moving away from SONY don't u think. i mean they could just develop some way to use MDS as CDs u know like how we now have MP3 CDPLayers.. :smile: we'd have MP3 Minidisc players..i'm sure if i developed it i'd be rich rich rich..... :grin: ...( ever notice how sony hold back the better MD units in their model range till the next year when they launching the Newer Units in a different Model range 4 instance the MZ-NF520 n MZ-N920)

hmm...i doubt it's a lump i think it's just the back of the cradle that supports the MD in it with previous cradles they got the base n then they MD slants back a lil..but there's a rest from the cradle..uhh can't put my hands on ne back views of it at the moment..but if u still wanna find out after it drops i'm sure some1's gonna do a review on it then u'll c it .. :smile: but idoubt it's a lump..not only that but that's one of the uhh..high end models ur talking about it's not likely that it will have a lump behind seeing that the only reason for the lumps behind MD Units is for the battery this Unit don't use AA batteris rather it uses a gumpack Battery it looks flat n pretty much like a stick of gum http://minidisco.com/nh-14wm.html that link should take u to a site with a pic of the battery it might look round but in fact it's pretty slim..so with all this in mind i'm positive it's not a lump...other wise all the MD gurus wouldn't even give it soo much attention.....ne who..

WOW..that was a lot of reading .. i must say..i'm pretty enthusiastic about this HI MD format..i anticipate a lot u know things it's gonna be very good cuz i i'm still using my MZN 707..n i record in LP2 (quality factor) but i find myself always recording over disc n walking with a ton of discs. well i'm hoping with this 1gig disc i'll finally be using my group function. sometin else. debating bout durability that's just dumb..No HDD?MP3 player can be compared to MDs from experience i skate right. been doing it for 9 years i'm not amateur. droped my md countless amount of times (MZ-R70, MZR 500,MG 750 and MZN 707) reason i haven't bought an other since is cuz the well my MZ-R70 still works like a charm n my N707 haning in there the amount of times they've been dropped. ???lost count.. now i'd love to get an MP3 playa where i can do that. something else i'd like to address what's up with this tons of music thing..i mean we're human..i listen to music 24 hours a day of which probably 5 hours i'm really listening to it some i'm sleeping n the others i'm just not paying attention..y want 1000 hours of music..ok u talk about pullin up hits from a bulk of music...hmm..how many songs can u Love so???? i got uhh..bout 7000 MP3s on my pc. look i hardly ever listen to them..spend most of my time listenin to HIT online radios..get what i'm saying now.. :grin: what they need to do now is intigrate XM satalite radio or something into MDS :laugh:

My best guess would be the streets..for nething with a good price go store hopping. n i'm talking bout in New York..other wise keep monitoring minidisco.com i find their stuff to be cheap especially after say 6 months of their debut u find they drop their prices lower than almost ne retailer of the products.

hmm....HI MDs on their way huh..ok i'll c what they have to say when they drop..but i'm still a lil sceptical bout SONY since my MZN 707 got issues due to the manufacturing where the cable runing to the magnetic head went bad n the lens was off balance in all my MD units..all in all i'm anticipating these things bad.will probably get 2 or 3 of them this time ..oh n i'm replying to something i read earlier bout price...a good place to get MD units online n they get theirs pretty fast at a good pirce..is "minidisco.com" for those who didn't know.. ne ways...i forgot what i wanted to really say cuz i'm distracted. will do next time :laugh:

ok Friends..i'm back. i had that prob for almost a year now. prob: MD won't record for no reason not through optica/ analogue/PC-MD.. it's simple as that guy said ur optical head's gone bad. what happened it seems is that with these MDLP models. the head goes some extra distance outwards than 1st generation mds like MZ-R70 etc...so it seems in time the lil uhh data cable that runs from the head to the unit main board breaks i mean it happened on 1st on my MZ-N707 then i was like ok i started useing me MZ-G750 to record but after a few months same thing happened that's when i went in n saw the prob so yeah u can either get the head uhh i can't remember which is for which but if u get a service manuel u can check it out(service manuels on minidisc.org) then try n order the part n save money or send it to a "SONY" repair shop n trust me u won't have no probs again. but be careful if u do it urself that the magnetic head is directely paralelll to the lens or it will damage ur discs for good.i know i got bout 7 damaged discs :evil: ..so now u know.. 8)

8) oh my hacks great n stuff...yeah all's that good..i haven't been arround for a while. look remember that prob i had where the reverse button was trying to track mark..well right now both back n foward buttons messed up..when i press foward it just goes back.so i'm like hitting a ball with a string sending it back i mean i would stay between 2 songs for ever .can't proceed to others on the disk.look now the damn thing won't record no more.i wanna know if ne one's experience the prob where the unit just won't record. it seems to be messing up my discs. i'm not too familiar with the whole service mode for the N707..i need some help on that cuz i wanna check out my recording options..other wise i'll probably stop using sony. up to this day i haven't had a sony md for over12 months without something going wrong with it damn! but yah..i thought it was a hardware prob..but not sure yet i'm gonna get a nother lens from another unit that blew out.n c if that's the prob.
