"High Definition" digital amp vs regular digital a
Christopher replied to gepner's topic in Minidisc
Hard to tell since there's been no offical word from Sharp yet. I do know that they played an active part in the development, however.. Probably late this year or early next year. Sony's definitely going to have an advantage over everyone else for a little while until others catch up. -
I never could tell the difference myself. In theory it should be valid, but the extremely small variance between optical and USB in the LP2 sense is not even worth worrying about anyway..more or less a psycological assurance optical "is better". Know what I mean?

Apparently when I installed the custom ranks MOD it didn't process all the way through. That has finally been corrected and is 100% functional now. There was a similar issue with the online/offline MOD as well [specifically in topic viewing] that was also fixed. p.s. Fixed a good bit of phpbb vulnerabilities so the baddies don't blow this place to smithereens.

Not sure about the other aspects of your question, but you should look into ES discs for a plain white blank. You can even pencil on them.

"High Definition" digital amp vs regular digital a

Sounds like a plan. I think I'll be waiting for Sharp's offerings myself. On a related note, most people who have heard a Sharp digital amp [or 1-bit as they call it, and similar to HD and Kenwood amp I spoke of earlier] agree it spanks most DAP's like the iPod, Karma, etc. -
Oh, it's not that bad for phpbb. Did you see the place before I came here? I think I've done quite a good job, thank you very much. :rasp:

Wow, for a newcomer you seem very informed, which is how it should be..I love it when people do there homework! If you're content with what you've decided, then there isn't really much room for further input - seems like an all-around good choice to me. I think the only thing I can recommend is when you do delve into the new format, make sure you spend some time practicing recording before you go out and do the real deal. Everything you've suggested for yourself will work out quite well, but what about headphones?

We may eventually digress from the current News formatting, but for now it works. With the subforum feature it's catagorized quite nicely and isn't too terribly obtrusive, eh? I think if this place ever takes off then I'll look into something different.

Hello, and welcome to the forums. Anyway, there is a difference between these amps and I'm glad you asked. Not many people are aware of the fact. The Sony HD digital amp [ala E720, NH1, and so on] is similiar to digital amps found in newer generation Sharp [Auvi - DS8/DS70/DR7/DR80, etc] and Kenwood players/recorders [s33, S55, S77, S9NET, etc]. Units with these amps are essentially the pinnacle of portable MD sound, and are so detailed and natural sounding I would think it's nearly impossible for words to really describe how it sounds to someone who has never heard one before. Regular digital amps [ala N920, E10, ST500, and so on] do have an advantage over units that carry an analog one, but it's mostly in the sense of power consumption. The sound advantage isn't really there, but it's better than nothing at all, I suppose. More or less a gimmick in my mind, as the differences aren't really that apparent. So, is a unit with a HD digital amp [or a newer-generation Sharp or Kenwood] worth it? If you're already a connoisseur of ATRAC audio then this will definitely open your eyes quite a bit. The soundstage is much more defined, and each instrument in whatever song [or genre] you're listening to is so clearly articulated it leaves you breathless at times.. I'd recommend it. -
Did you try what the link prescribed, though?
-
Did you uninstall everything the way dr. iceeedtea prescribed? http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4112

Uninstall everything again, and then take a look at this: http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t=4112

I would also suggest you check out the selection at the Sound Professionals, the link to the site is in the "links" section at the top of the site.
-
Well, have you tried recording in a different way other than from the computer?
-
Sorry, I don't think that's possible since it's not possible to play back OMG files on more than one validated PC at once. There is an exporting tool for OpenMG, isn't there?
-
What are the bitrates of the songs?
-
Uninstall everything [drivers, related programs] and reinstall them?
-
Completely uninstall the drivers and related programs and reinstall them.
-
Not really too knowledgeable on this stuff, but have you tried completely uninstalling the drivers and software and reinstalling them - essentially starting anew?

12ELK is a very nice remote, initally came with the N1 a few years back, I believe. I used to own one when I had a R700, and it's was definitely one of my favorite remotes I've ever used [besides newer Kenwood remotes]. Enjoy.
-
Pretty sure the answer to this is no, but you can always try, right? Have you considered infrared?
-
I am pretty sure that the 11EL and the 12ELK remotes are fully compatible with this unit. You can purchase these at audiocubes, and the link to that site is in the Links section at the top of the forum, or you could try eBay. If my assumptions are correct, the only functions that are possible are the LCD displayed for 2 seconds (perfectly) and then turned off for no reason, menu displays don't work, play mode/display buttons don't work and all others, however, work fine. Right?

I did indeed change the forum structure a good bit; hope you like it.

Okay, put a few things in: When you submit a reply now, it will instantly go to the post you wrote in the thread. This goes for new threads as well. I added a links section at the top of the page above the "log out" link. Right now it contains some favorable e-tailers that are reputable, as well as the lone sponsor for Minidisc.org. Please consider visiting these sites for your future Minidisc purchases. I don't recieve any comission, they're simply just great sites that should be well known. I will be adding further links covering various things as time passes. Also, at the bottom of the page where the information about who is online resides, hidden users are no longer counted, as well as guests [i will note that guests show up in the total visitor count, though]. Simply just registered members. Hidden users do not show up in the "Who's online" anymore, either. If you're hidden, you're hidden! [not to the staff, of course]. I took out the google counter. I guess the spiders haven't infiltrated us..yet. p.s. I'm very glad that so many of you have registered with us as of late, and I thank you for contributing to the Minidisc Community Forums. Let's make this a great place for related discussion! Oh yeah, I might change the forum structure a little tonight, so keep an eye on that.
