Maybe its cos you stop the song frequently in the middle on portable player and recorders as you are mainly travelling with it. So as a convenient feature it starts where you left off. But at home you do not stop the music so frequently as there is no one urging you to stop the music for odd reasons. You just listen to it in the confort and peace of your own. No traffic, no salesmen, no mobile phones ringing in the middle of a song (well ok it still might but then you can pause)... Dunno thats what I think anyway

Can't do that mate! Have you tried calling sony and asking them what to do? Though my guess is they probably wont be able to answer the question properly... Well good luck anyway!

I guess you are going to have to look for a new model... anyway doesnt matter if the product is going off the market. As long as you have a guarantee and a receipt then you will be supported by ONE whole year... And after that no matter if the product is just brand new or old you will have to pay to get it serviced... Dont know why you waited that long. I never believe in sales. Most of the time the top of the range stuff dont even get price reeduction anyway. Even if it does it is somewhere aroudn the 10-15% range and that already pays off for the weeks of usage that i get compared to waiting weeks before getting the product... See where I am getting at? It is called maximising utility as we economists call it... When I want something bad I go out and buy it.

It is an entry level model. Quite basic and will get things done. Doesnt any of the funky features like the N10 and the N910. But its anti-shock protection is excellent, like all Sony's. Also it doesnt have a MIC IN so you will have to use a POWERED MICROPHONE from the LINE IN to be able record live... Cheers BerkY

Well you can sign on as admin and then run as you will... isn't it that simple? All you go to is go to the control panel and set yourself as administrator. Easy peasy...
-
The settings are independent... ie. when you choose to record from SonicStage or OpenMG jukebox at LP2 it copies it as LP2 as you told the program to record it as LP2... Then you take out your optic cable and connect it to your stereo and choose to copy at SP and it will copy as SP. Simple as that... Dont confuse yourself with setting things manually. The program does it all for you... You only change it in the program when you want to copy using the USB cable. With the optic cable you have to set it yourself as there is no interface on the HiFi to change it. You have to do it on the MD YOURSELF!!! I do not understand how you set it to SP as you say?!?!? When you record at a certain ATRAC format like SP, LP2 or LP4 you cannot set or change anything on the MD. The MD will play the music in whatever format you RECORDED it. Best quality you are talking about is LP2 mode!!! That's why it records in LP2 mode!!! You can ONLY copy music at 132kbps when using OpenMG jukebox or SonicStage. So the highest quality will be LP2 quality. Sp quality is somewhere around 292kbps which is not available in that program. You can only tell the program to be compatible with SP mode. There is a SP option in SonicStage and it is not TRUE SP. It just copies it so that older players can play the disc. I am talking about older players that do not support MDLP and hence LP2 and LP4 modes. So if you want true SP quality, then you will have to record using the optic cable. And you will need a HiFi with a digital out. To sum it all up for you, DO NOT CHANGE THE SETTINGS ON THE MD WHEN RECORDING FROM THE COMPUTER. THE SETTINGS ON THE MD ARE USELESS. ONLY CHANGE THOSE SETTINGS WHEN YOU COPY FROM OTHER SOUCES LIKE THE MIC IN OR OPT IN (FROM YOUR HIFI)... ALSO REMEMBER YOU CANNOT RECORD IN TRUE SP FROM THE COMPUTER. YOU NEED A HIFI FOR THAT... LAST THING, YOU CAN ONLY CHECK-OUT WHAT YOU HAVE CHECKED-IN... IE. IF IT IS LP2 FORMAT THEN YOU CAN ONLY CHECK IT OUT IN LP2 PHEW.... 8)

You can only dump it to computer in analog. If thats fine for you then burning CDs shouldnt be a problem. I do not know how the quality will be though as I never tried recording a choral group. But I doubt it will great when recording live since the mic will pick up other sources as well. You would need to connect it directly.

Mope that doesnt qualift as a live recording but still it shouldnt be doing it... Weird problem. maybe its the cables? you can change it try it again and see if it gives the same problem. if not then there might some problem with the LINE IN jack...

Try the "Find your minidisc" forum mate!

Did you use a powered mic? If so the mic might not have recorded with utmost precision and there might cut-outs like that. May i ask why you did not record from the mic in socket?

Checking in Songs BUT playlists been deleted..

Nope, not that I know of... You need the files imported into SonicStage or OpenMG... So tough luck I guess... You will have to re-import them into SonicStage. Hard drives are cheap these days, why not buy one? But if you are in financial crises then there really is no choice but what your music dissappear... -
Hell yea! There is a huge difference. The music sounds so "mechanic" when played in LP4. I can tell the difference. However, when listened outside in busy traffic that difference is less obvious. If space is very important for you than quality then copy in LP4 mode. How can there be no option? When you copy the album it is already imported to OpenMG or SonicStage. Then when checkiing-out the song you should be able to choose the format. And SP means standard play. ie with no compression and highest quality...

Ok first and foremost lets get this straight... You cant get any sound from the SPEAKERS when you PLAY the music from SonicStage. The MD will still play the disc but sound will ONLY come from the HEADPHONES. However, if there is no sound coming from the headphones either then there could be a problem. MP3s and other formats will play fine from the speakers from the SonicStage interface but when it comes to playing discs from the MD when the MD is connected to the computer I am afraid you have to put on the headphones. Cheers BerkY

Well it is a matter of choice... Forget about what is better! Nren might think MP3s are better and majestic might think MDs are better but the whole thing really changes from person to person. As i said it is really a matter of choice! If you care about size, uniqueness and the coolness factor then the MD is better. Also a 128kbit MP3 is not better in terms of quality when conpared to an ATRAC3 coded LP2 track. In fact the LP2 kicks its arse! However you can "only" fit 160 minutes of music. Which I think is more than enough. After all i only listen to my MD when I go out or when i use public transport and i do not spend more than 160 minutes on public transport. So why carry a 20gb hard disk with you when you wont even use the darn thing fully. Pointless and a waste of money... So MDs are cool and they are small, light and unique... Thats what I care about. They are better than MP3s (comparing an LP2 track) in terms of quality and when i need more music i can just change the disc. After all carrying a disk wont be such a hassle when compared to carrying a hard disk, right ?

I presume you record from your HiFi with the optical cable... I dont really think the head is dirty as it can READ and PLAY the disc as you said... There is something else wrong with it. I advise you to try to record from the computer with the USB cable AND SONICSTAGE. See if that works... If it doesnt then there is something wrong with the recording mechanism. You know it doesnt matter if it is one year old or one month old these days as most products are made in china, vietnam, indonesia and malaysia... Quality is just poor even if its a sony... Thats why I buy Sony's made in japan ONLY. I advise you to do same. You want proof? Here is proof... I have 4 sony products at home, and if i add my cassette walkman and MD walkman that makes it 6 Sony products. The VCR and the TV are made in Malaysia and have both been to the Sony Service center and back with repairs. My Mini Hifi, a Sony MHC-GR8 (good piece of equipment when i bought it in '98 ), has been to the service center twice!!! And this product is made in Indonesia. Now here is a fact: The other products that I have are ALL MADE IN JAPAN! I have a Midi HiFi which is 10 years old and all the parts are made in japan and its working great! Both walkmans are also made in japan and they are also working great. So I try not to buy a Sony that is not made in japan these days. As the repairman in the sony service center said, "there is a HUGE quality difference, and you get what you pay for" Such is life... Cheers BerkY

Takes me about 5 mins or less using SonicStage transferring a full album to my MD at 32x using LP2 format...
-
Well the problem with converting MP3s to ATRAC3 is that they have to be above 128kbits (which shouldnt be a problem for you) and they also have to be at 44.1Khz... If they are 22.5Khz then "houston we have a problem". So make sure they are 44.1Khz mate! cheers BerkY

How much are you prepared to spend? Cost is an important benchmark and if you got lots to spend then why not go for the Sharp DR80... Funky piece of equipment... and its got that 1-bit digital amp too... Marketing these days... hehe
-
Nope! Only RealOne has a plug-in...
-
Sony EX-71... Small, comfortable, great sound... well worth the purchase! highly recommended!
-
No I dont think there is any other software that will alow you to convert files to ATRAC because it is Sony's property. I havent seen any SDK2s around either so ppl can develop their own stuff. So your stuck with sonicstage i'm afraid...

I have seen him post in other forums... hmm maybe all he wanted was to get you to apologise
