  1. The Mac software supplied with the RH1 allows uploads of any Hi-MD formats (Hi-LP, Hi-SP, PCM) to a Mac using any Mac-compatible unit. I'll post this next part as a separate thread eventually, but if anyone with a MZ-M** model wants the Mac software to upload in Hi-SP/Hi-LP and not just PCM, PM me and I can email it to you.
  2. Goodbye to my NH900 (sold to a good friend and fellow musician). Hello to a mint MZ-E900 for a great buy it now price on eBay, should be arriving tomorrow. Will post some pics when it arrives.
  3. Maybe... However I was stating the dates that I had purchased the units. I got my MZ-1 in '93.
  4. That one was actually car headlights as seen using a glass paperweight as the camera lens. The third photo was done in the same way.
  5. Nice, my grandfather (a retired state police captain) gave me one of those that he used while on the force.
  6. Most of them were using my old Nikon F3. Some of them that are newer are using an actual macro lens and our new Olympus E-Volt 500, prior to that I would just hold my wide-angle lens backwards against the camera to get in really close... Had some weird depth-of-field effects doing it that way. There are one or two where I was actually using various glass objects in place of the actual lens as well. If I labelled them I would be lost for words and probably suffice with "Untitled #1", "Untitled #2", etc. The purplish one is actually the inside/underside/up-close of a glass sculpture of Mars.
  7. You sure have quite a flashlight collection there. Does your power go out often or what?
  8. I recently got a PM from a member commenting on my avatar photo and wondering what the story was behind it... So I thought I would share some of my abstract photography with the board. I debated using the gallery but decided against it since I would rather have them all in one place together. Keep in mind that these photographs are raw images and have not been edited or manipulated (with the exception of resizing) using any image editing software. Essentially I simply used experimental lighting/focusing/objects/etc. to acheive any and all effects. The objects in these photos are normal everyday objects including marbles, colored glass, frost, and even a cup of coffee exhibiting strange visual behaviour after creamer was added... Enjoy, [attachmentid=1843][attachmentid=1844][attachmentid=1845] [attachmentid=1846][attachmentid=1847] [attachmentid=1848][attachmentid=1849][attachmentid=1850] [attachmentid=1851][attachmentid=1852]
  9. Yep, somewhat... The MZ-1 aside from being the first MD recorder is also the only portable with an optical out. You'd have to keep in mind however that the ATRAC codec is dated and the unit only works with SP/MONO.
  10. Here is a thread explaining how to release your uploaded tracks from DRM: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=16088 After doing so, you can simply back them up as you would any other file, as they no longer have any restrictions.
  11. Good call... Sorry for jumping on that without re-reading what I was referring to.
  12. Yeah I heard about something called Beta-Max too... supposed to be the next big thing. Can't wait!
  13. I think we're talking uploading here... from the RH1. Not downloading from PC > MD. At least this was the original subject.
  14. Wow I just checked mine a minute ago and it was using 141mb!!! I uninstalled/reinstalled FireFox and now its using 30mb... Guess I should play it safe and run some virus/spyware scans... Has anything turned up on anyone elses machines?
  15. Personally, after uploading my own SP/MONO tracks as PCM, I then convert them to WAV via SonicStage, and then archive them as FLAC. The PCM and WAV versions can then be deleted, and FLAC is a good lossless compression with bearable compression ratios. It would be nice however, for those that wish to transfer these as Hi-SP for Sony to release an update to the ATRAC3+ encoder to fix this bug. Bear in mind however, that transferring SP as Hi-SP is transcoding, so there will be some quality loss... Whether or not this loss is noticeable is completely subjective, but regardless...
  16. I have had no problems with PCM after uploading over 40 legacy discs myself.
  17. I would try first setting it to upload as PCM. I haven't experienced any problems using this setting. Failing that you may wish to update your SonicStage to version 4 and see if it solves the problem. Here are the download links for SonicStage CP (v4): http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586
  18. Do you have SonicStage set to transfer SP as Hi-SP or PCM? Also, what version of SonicStage are you using? I have at this point uploaded 40+ legacy MiniDiscs with my RH1 and haven't encountered this problem (I have SonicStage set up to transfer SP/MONO as PCM and not transcoding to Hi-SP). I wouldn't rush with returning it until we sort this out, it might be a software issue that is fixable. EDIT: SimpleBurner (available in downloads section here in the forums) is alot more efficient when transferring from CD to MD/Hi-MD.
  19. This may be a result of the shock-memory not resetting itself after a disc is ejected. What model MD recorder do you have? When you switch discs do you press stop first or just eject the disc? One suggestion would be to remove the power supply/battery when you switch discs.
  20. What version of Windows are you running? Do the tracks appear in the correct order on the left side (CD side) of the screen before you record them to Hi-MD? Also, what version of simple burner are you using? The most recent version (2.0.05.25150) is availabe in the downloads section here in the forums. Depending on the situation a full uninstall/reinstall of the program may be a solution.
  21. Welcome to the forums/community!
  22. Yep. I could see how this could be troublesome to some people. But doesn't bother me as I use MiniDisc almost strictly for recording. And of the random times I use it as a music player, I use the remote anyway and have the unit stowed in a bag, etc.
