  1. The RH910 should have an AC adaper connection. I know for sure that the RH10 does, but you have to slide a little thing in order to access it (closes off the USB connector to avoid damage from too much current I suppose). In my opinion, Flash/HDD based units with recording features are still a rather new technology, versus MD which has been around for over 10 years now. I think I would trust my recording needs in the hands of a tried and true technology (especially one with cheap removeable media), versus a newer technology (how much are 1+GB flash cards going for now?). Also, particularly for HDD based stuff, if the drive goes bad you're screwed. For MD if the disc goes bad, you just pop a new one in. That, as well as the facty that I don't think I've seen any other flash or hdd based recorders that you can actually change the battery yourself (without having to send it in) or that have a AA option. Also just noticed that the U3 or whatnot has a built-in mic... not sure how well that will record. I'd much rather have a mic-in so I can choose what mic(s) to use depending on the situation. But then again, I'm sure having used MD since the early 90's has me at least slightly biased. EDIT: As far as the batteries are concerned for the NH700 or RH910... The NH700 uses standard AA batteries, I don't think MD going off the market will have an effect on the production of those (at least I hope not). Also, the RH910 as far as I know has a AA attachment so you could use those even if they for some reason discontinue the manufacturing of the rechargeable batteries for the unit.
  2. Go to "Option" and set "Menu Mode" to "Advanced" and see if you can see that option after doing so.
  3. Habanero74: The MZ-N10 is a NetMD model. Only Hi-MD models can upload to PC. See this thread for info: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070
  4. If the issue of your Hi-MD not being recognized continues after upgrading to Version 4, try downloading and installing the "Sony Personal Audio Driver" from the downloads section here in the forums. The link to the installer for SonicStage CP (Version 4) is around here in the forums somewhere, do a quick search and it should come up. Installing that very well might solve the issue. It certainly sounds to me like some kind of driver problem. One other thing you may want to try is to plug into a different USB port. EDIT: Here is the thread with SonicStage CP (V4) download links - http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=9586
  5. Was your Hi-MD recognized as an external drive by Windows Explorer?
  6. Hi there - Welcome to the forums! I'm not quite sure why Sony support would be saying that you cannot upload those, that is ridiculous! The only time you would have to record in PCM to upload is if you are using the Mac-Compatible models MZ-M10 or MZ-M100, the Mac importer for those models will only work with PCM... Seeing as though you are using the NHF800 though, that is not an issue. First off I would recommend upgrading to Version 4 of SonicStage. Aside from that, simply select the tracks on your Hi-MD in SonicStage and click the arrow going from your Hi-MD to your PC. That should do it. EDIT: I think I see where you are getting stuck. You would click on "Transfer" at the top of the screen and not "Import" to upload your Hi-MD recordings. You should see your Hi-MD listed there and that should bring it up so you can transfer the tracks to PC (again by clicking the arrow in the middle after selecting the tracks on your Hi-MD, the arrow that is pointing to the left.) Hope this helps. [attachmentid=1776] [attachmentid=1777]
  7. With Manual recording set you are still able to set the sensitivity to High or Low, just not Standard or LoudMusic. EDIT: Be sure you start the unit in REC-PAUSE first, then go into the Menu/Rec Settings and you should see Mic Sensitivity in there, also you can change rec levels to manual under rec-volume. (I'm going by memory here, my girlfriend has my RH10 at the moment,.)
  8. I have had no problems deleting the files from explorer. SonicStage will still show the files in My Library but may tell you that it can't find the file if you try to play it. You can safely remove the entries from My Library simply by deleting them as usual. Use caution when check-marking "Delete file from Computer" as this may delete the original source file instead of just the optimized one.
  9. Under Transfer Settings/Advanced, you can tell sonicstage to delete the converted files from the hard disk after transferring. Otherwise it will store the converted copy of every song you transfer in Packages/Optimized Files.
  10. Even with the MZ-NH700, there would be no way to transfer the tracks digitally to PC (you can transfer recordings done on the NH700 though, as long as they are recorded in a HiMD format). If you want to record the tracks in realtime to PC you can do so and then use Audacity or any other sound editing program to copy the left channel over. The only problems would be that you would have to transcode the file to get it back to your MiniDisc. Also it would be an analogue connection anyway. If you have any plans to get the MZ-RH1, you would then be able to upload your legacy recordings, but aside from that unit no others will upload legacy recordings. EDIT: If you still have the NetMD, and don't mind some slight quality loss, you could just use your NH700 to playback the old disc, and then set up your NetMD to record in MONO and run a line from the headphone-out on the NH700 to the line-in on the NetMD. It would be real-time though, but should record it to both channels as long as the NetMD is recording in MONO. Chances are you won't actually notice any quality loss (it might actually sound better since its coming from both speakers).
  11. For NetMD I'm not sure if there would be a very efficient way to do this... One possibility (that might work) would be to get a 1/8in MONO to 1/8in STEREO adapter. That way the MONO signal would (in theory) come through both speakers instead of just the left. Something that would look like this: Where the male part of the plug is MONO and the female is STEREO. --- This of course wouldn't actually change the discs at all, but you would be able to listen to them in stereo. Again, in theory. At least you should be able to find the said adapter for quite cheap I would imagine.
  12. its hard to see a zero crossover in audacity, but i beleive that after you select an area if you press "Z" on the keyboard it snaps to zero crossing. basically when you zoom way in on a waveform a zero crossing is where the waveform crosses the zero.
  13. You definitely want Version 4. With version 2 you will end up only being able to upload your recordings one time I believe, if you try again after that I think it erases the disc on you. This limitation does not exist in Version 4.
  14. Yeah I guess it would depend on the soundcard to an extent. You would also inherently lose some quality from the analog connection and of course from transcoding (Atrac>WAV>Mp3). Might be worth doing a couple test recordings to see what the end result sounds like. What type of PC/Soundcard would you be using?
  15. With your current setup the only option I beleive would be to run a line-out from your MiniDisc to your computer and use a sound editing/recording program like the free Audacity to record the tracks in Real-Time. Then you can convert them to Mp3 and transfer to your Mp3 player. The new MZ-RH1 will allow you to actually upload the tracks faster than realtime to your PC, but as it is a very new unit it will cost you. If you do any live recording of concerts, etc it would probably be a good investment and would definitely save alot of time getting your tracks to your PC.
  16. What model MiniDisc player/recorder do you have?
  17. I have gotten into the habit of releasing my uploaded files from DRM (without having to convert to wav) by doing the following. After uploading recordings to My Library, select the files you want and right-click. Select "Convert format". If you recorded in Hi-SP select the drop down for 256kbps Atrac3+. Be sure to leave the "Add copy protection" box unchecked. Contrary to what one might think this does not transcode the music file it simply removes the DRM info. After this the OMA files are playable/importable/convertable on any computer. The un-DRMed files can then be found in C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\SonicStage\Packages\Optimized Files I usually move these un-DRMed files to a safe location (external drive, CD, etc.) as they are now free from DRM.
  18. Roamer has it, try Audacity... Open-source audio editor. It's available in the downloads section here in the forums I think. Should be pretty straight-forward to split the file up into tracks.
  19. I was thinking the german/latin thing too actually. lol It's actually part of a song from a CD that I just got. It has a voice from one speaker speaking in this language and a computer voice in the other speaker translating it, however the computer malfunctions towards the end but the real voice keeps talking. there is a full transcription in the linear notes, which is where i'm getting this from. the cd is "reigns - we lowered a microphone into the ground". fantastic album, highly recommended. anyway, the actual translation of what i typed previously is "we have a daughter. she is called heidi. please tell her that we are well. what year is it now?" right before the translating computer "malfunctions" in the song, it says "we have a message for Heidi. it is very important. something we have discovered in our time here. it is the one thing everyone would wish to know in life. we wish we had. it is this..." and then like i said the voice keeps talking but the translating computer thing malfucntions and then the song ends. EDIT: Here is the actual part that comes after that isn't translated in the song - "Kristen en deum zi morteus. Pardist zi deslace. Faist quist vose amulse. Tuska mein bist chilcendor. Tuska mein estvincia. Faist quist vose amulse. Neita signifse. Neita signifse. Gar os varda. Gar os frigt. Neita" I've narrowed some of the words down from what is translated from other parts of the song: tuska mein = please tell estvincia = everyone neita = nothing frigt = cold
  20. Hey everyone, wondering if any of you folks could help me out with this... Any idea what language this is? "Ict post y fille. Fe os applay Heidi. Tuska mein fet gul ict ze hargen. Quist annor os immercium?" Thanks in advance to anyone that can help with this. ...
  21. That's great news Volta! Still waiting on mine here in the states...
