  1. I'm pretty sure that tracks which were already uploaded prior to installing SS 3.2 would have the DRM information already written to the HiMD itself, so it would not allow additional uploads. I will test this out this evening if noone else has tried and let you guys know for sure.
  2. The RH10 comes with a rechargeable battery, as well as an external adapter to use a AA dry battery as well.
  3. I will be running some more tests tomorrow as well on my desktop computer. Mainly I want to see if the OMA files that I've imported to my laptop will be able to be converted to WAV on my desktop computer via either SonicStage 3.2 or HiMDRenderer.. BTW, Can I officially claim the title of being the first person to post to these forums from within SonicStage 3.2 (by modifying the registry to show the forums instead of Connect?)
  4. Quick question on the DRM & 3.2... Let's say I record a bunch of field recordings or whatnot on my RH10 with HiSP... If I upload them via sonicstage, then archive just the imported .OMA files (assuming they are now not DRMed).. Will I be able to pull up those files on any other machine with sonicstage and use the wav converter or preferably HiMD renderer to produce .WAV files? If so, that is great, but sucks at the same time, lol./.. As much space as I have used by uploading and then converting to WAV>FLAC to archive them.. Would be nice to just be able to keep them archived as OMA files and work on them as need be. Without worrying that I will be unable to open them b/c of the DRM..
  5. I think this post describes something similar to what you are experiencing... Though I'm not sure if it has been resolved as of yet... Perhaps if this thread were in the Software discussion forum it may receive more replys? (Hint Hint, Mods... ) .. What are your system specs btw?
  6. Well, to answer your first question.. The separate WAV converter program was for older versions (2.x I believe). SonicStage 3.x has the converter built in. Secondly, HiMDRenderer is a fantastic peice of software that allows you to rip your .oma files to FLAC, MP3, OGG, and of course WAV. Another advantage is being able to use HiMDRenderer to rip tracks that were recorded via optical-in, as the built in WAV converter for SonicStage only allows saving analogue-recorded tracks as WAV. I will say that Marc was here for us with HiMDRenderer when SONY was not, so any donations he receives are well worth it.
  7. Very rarely, users have had their recordings crash and trash the disc and the upload.. This was mainly with older versions of SonicStage from what I remember. I've had no problems of this sort. Some good uploading info and tips can be found in this thread Edit - The linked thread is a little dated.. but includes alot of good information, and instructions on how to take a "better safe than sorry" approach to digital uploading.

  9. Couple of things.. Uploading material from HiMD does not necessarily delete the file from the original HiMD.. You can change this preference in SonicStage. Once the initial recording is uploaded, it can be saved as wav and copied, edited, etc. to your hearts content. Granted, for transferring mp3s and recordings to and from HiMD and such, sonicStage can be a pain sometimes, the majority of the time I have few to no problems with it on a regular basis. EDIT: Also it is possible to record in the HiMD modes (HiSP, HiLP, PCM) onto a normal MD with the RH910. However you cannot record (with the unit itself) in LP2, LP4, SP, Mono.. You can record the LP2, etc. formats with sonicstage and transfer them to a standard MD using the RH910 if you desire. 1st generation HiMDs will record in LP2, LP4 etc.. but those formats cannot be uploaded thru sonicstage.
  10. As far as I am aware, you can use SimpleBurner 2 with HiMD (its hosted here in the downloads section, you can d/l it since you've registered).. I'm pretty confident I've used it with my NH900 and RH10. Though I'm not sure this will help unless you have all of your mixes on audio cd. I thought you could image with nero and make the CD as long as you want... Hmm.. Looking into this one... Not sure on the m3u stuff.. Though I'm sure someone here can help out. EDIT - I Just checked, and you can overburn w/nero up to 150min... not sure how helpful that is, but you can set the overburning in preferences (nero 6). I'm sure there is a program or 2 out there that you can use to burn cd images as large as you want.. google it.
  11. Yes I would definitely be recording to WAV, then converting to FLAC to archive the files. I plan on using optical out>HiMD PCM>Computer>FLAC.. Modifying one of those units sounds like the most reasonable (and fun) way to go about this.. The E10 would be a nice addition, don't get me wrong.. Though I would prefer to have a unit for my rack that has all of the E10 features, plus HiMD capability (full backwards compatibility of course), optical out, time machine recording, etc... "You may say I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one" How can we convince sony to give us the aforementioned? BTW, if you come across any of the links for modifying those units.. please share, as that will most likely be the route that I take.. EDIT - I found a couple of links for the mods.. What tools are necessary though to modify these? Personally I don't have much experience with electronics and soldering, would it be terribly difficult to do?
  12. Yeah.. I've already checked all the usual routes quite a few times already looking for one (eBay, Google, Yahoo!, etc.). They do seem to be pretty elusive. Though if I had a dime for each one I saw that wasnt LP, or that didn't have optical out... I have a feeling I'll either end up seeing one for sale at a yard sale or pawn shop at some point. Or, worst case I may pick up one that can be modified to enable optical out.
  13. I'm looking for an MD deck that is LP compatible and has an optical out. After much HiMD use, and lots of aggravation over not being able to upload my old recordings, I have decided to look into this so I can record my old LP2 discs via optical into my HiMD to transfer to the PC... I've had some luck with my (very) old SP recordings by doing this using my MZ-1 since it has an optical out.. But I need something now that will play LP.. Also it will be nice to just have a deck for home use.. So I don't always have to plug in my portables... If anyone (preferably in the US) has one they are trying to get rid of, or knows where I might find one, PM me.. Thanks!
  14. This may be a kind of silly question... but do you have it plugged into your line-in or mic-in?
  15. What was the length of the track when it was initailly on the HiMD? The partial track that was uploaded and converted to WAV didn't happen to cut off at or around 74 min by chance, did it? -a
  16. My RH10 is having this exact same issue... I was putting off sending it in to have the titling issue fixed, but now with this issue too I am tempted to go ahead and have SONY take a look at it. Is your model one of the lucky ones with the missing letters when titling as well? I'm curious to see how many units have this volume/search issue... EDIT: Mine has this issue when I press the volume button either way, up or down. And as you said, doesn't happen every time, but it does tend to drive you up a wall.
  17. Unfortunately, direct mp3 playback is only available through the 2nd generation HiMD units (i.e. MZ-RH910, MZ-RH10). Also there are some reports that the mp3 playback quality is lacking. Search the forums a bit..
  18. I had this same problem yesterday after doing a clean install of SS 3.1. I installed the MDCF hosted 3.1 package, and neither SS or simpleburner would recognize my RH10. Windows2000 picked it up fine as a storage drive (and I even uninstalled it from device manager so it would reinstall the drivers, but to no avail.) Initially I tried installing the drivers from my SS 3.0 CD but was still unable to get it to recognize my HiMD. I didn't try to hard to do this, so there may be a possible way to work it out. The solution that ended up working for me (not sure I would recommend it because it is kind of backwards) was to install SS 3.0 from CD over the 3.1 installation. Everything picks up fine now, and SS says the version is still 3.1.. I'm assuming/hoping that it somehow only updated drivers or something. Has anyone else found any other fixes/workarounds to this besides the ones mentioned thus far?
  19. first off.. diamonds are minerals. so if we are talking minerals, second to diamonds corundum (aluminum oxide) would be about the second harders (a 9 on Moh's scale of hardness, whereas diamonds are 10). elements are a completely different story, but it seems as though you aren't talking strictly elements. as far as lightest metal (element-wise, and also the lightest solid), Lithium wins.
  20. I guess people in the US who have always been against communism don't know the definition. "A system of government in which the state plans and controls the economy and a single, often authoritarian party holds power, claiming to make progress toward a higher social order in which all goods are equally shared by the people."
  21. The closest I have done was a live radio broadcast last Friday that involved a background mix of field recordings/etc. Over which we played ambient experimental sounds with guitars, keyboards, singing bowls, screwdrivers, violin bows, etc... Basically I edited the sound files for the background track on GoldWave, all of the recordings were originally from MD.. Then we transferred the compiled track (45min or so) to HiMD through SS (Hi-Sp)... Played it back through the NH900 using line out to a mixer, and then ran the keyboard and guitars through the mixer as well... Keeping the mixer close enough to adjust levels on the fly.. Was a blast.. Recorded the live show, complete with the background recordings and live instrumentation, from the mixer to my RH10's optical in... Perhaps I will get around to cropping some excerpts sometime to post in the gallery..
  22. Are they actually exchanging the unit? Or are they upgrading the firmware on your original unit? The information they provided to me stated that they did not have an exchange available. Did they have you send all of the materials that came with your unit originally, or just the unit itself? Also, as far as the earbuds... I hate them. I didnt know that they were supposed to be made the way they are.. I find them very annoying. . I tried them the way that was explained here. I dont really like wires rubbing the back of my neck so much.. -a
  23. I'll go ahead and try this experiment on my RH10 this evening, sounds very interesting... -a
  24. I beleive the N1 remote is compatible with the 900... I haven't used it myself, but I think I remember reading/hearing about it..
  25. According to the email I received from SONY... They dont have an exchange currently available, but I can still send in the unit and wait for them to contact me. Hmm.. Also it appears that you at least get a discount through UPS for shipping.. I'm still trying to decide if it is worth sending in my unit for service. Mine also came with a faulty pair of earbuds (one was waaay shorter than the other) so I wonder if they will switch that out for me.. I'll keep you guys updated if I decide to send it in. -aA
