  1. The only thing that doesn't work on my MZ-1 is the battery. Everything else works fine. About same age as yours. I still use it from time to time, mainly to run an optical output to backup my old SP discs. But I actually used it a couple of weeks ago to record a jam session @ home.
  2. Well, I say everyone that is a registered member donate a few dollars and we combine it all and purchase all of sony's remaining stock of MD equipment. That should last us a bit... Alternately, we could all donate money to get an advertising campaign going for HiMD
  3. I seem to remember being able to record just fine on my MZ-1 ... Come to think of it... it still records just fine to this day
  4. - Units (SONY): MZ-RH10 - MZ-NH900 - MZ-N707 - MZ-R90 - MZ-1 - MDS-JE470 - MDS-E10 - Units (OTHER): TASCAM MD-350 - YAMAHA MD-4S - Usage: Various day to day field recordings for use in music projects (birds, streams, trains, rain, thunder, cars, etc.), playback of said recordings for backdrop of live performances, recording band rehearsals/jam sessions, 4-track recording, recordings of live performances, data storage, listening to mp3/atrac/PCM audio files. - Alternatives: For high-quality recording on inexpensive removeable media - DAT? For playback of current MDs... - None. 4-Track recording - A few options. None very appealing to me. Data Storage - Easily scratched DVD/CD media. Listening to files - iPod, iRiver, iDon'tCareForThem... - Requests: 1 - Please do not discontinue a product that was conceived for recording purposes because the market for playback devices has better sales. 2 - Do your best to adhere to the age-old saying "the customer is always right". 3 - Please leave our recordings alone when we are uploading them into your player. We appreciate your concern for people wanting to possibly pirate our materials, but we as the creators should have full access to our own recordings. In other words, don't add/change/delete any info from our HiMD discs when we are uploading.
  5. Well, depending on how you look at it. I could record and re-record on that HiMD to my hearts desire and have plenty of storage. I trust HiMD over DVD when it comes to getting scratched/broken/etc. too.
  6. This is too funny.. I've been mailing all of my other junk mail back like this for years. I take all the junk mail I get and put it all in one return envelope. Never knew you could send up to 50lbs though!! Thats great!
  7. I'd recommend the MZ-NH600 as well. Bear in mind during your searching ashex that the MZ-NH600D doesn't have a line-in (USB only).
  8. Let me do some research on my decks and see if I can accomplish this. If it is possible with my hardware, I'd be more than happy to help you out.
  9. Having been an MD user since the MZ-1, as long as I have a functioning unit (the MZ-1 still works for the most part ) and functional media, I will be staying with the format. I use MD mainly for the recording aspect, and even if I had a choice of a portable HD or whatever recorder with the same quality, theres something about the feeling of inserting an MD when you are getting ready to record... So as I stated, as long as I have a unit and media, or can find one on eBay or whatever, I'm staying with MD. Period.

  11. Meaning of Life = 42.. How many years did it take "deep thought" to get that? Wasn't it like 7 million or something? Just so you know, you didn't go over everyones head here.
  12. You should be able to just convert with the audio editing software, and then transfer the resulting mp3 directly to the RH10 (without re-encoding to Atrac in Sonicstage).
  13. I had thought the new crystal-blue HiMD discs came in a sleeve and not the larger case? Not that I have any of these yet, but I was led to believe this...
  14. Thats a good question. Seems like you should be able to do this, as the HiMD is recognized as a removeable media drive. Might be as simple as copying some drivers/files and an autorun.inf file onto your HiMD disc. Search around for PC Lock USB software, and try it out. I don't have my USB cable here at work or I would try it out.

  16. You could try downloading and installing the "Sony Personal Audio Driver" from the Downloads section of the forum. EDIT: When you say that the device is not recognized, do you mean it doesn't appear in SonicStage when you click on transfer? Are you trying to access the unit from windows directly? If you are attempting to access the NetMD from windows explorer, it will not show up anywhere, only the HiMD units show up as a removable disk in Windows Explorer.
  17. Hi there, welcome to the forums. The MZ-NE140's only input is USB, so you will only be able to get audio onto it from SonicStage. The model lacks an optical/line in, otherwise you could record the audio from your DVD player's output. What I would recommend is searching the web for a DVD audio ripping program. You should be able to find some free downloads. Once you have the program, simply rip the audio you want, and import the resulting audio file (probably WAV) into SonicStage, then transfer to MD. Hope this helps. Enjoy the new unit. Depending on what/how you want to record, you may want to consider going a step up to add an optical/line input, and/or a mic input. The NH600D, like your current unit, can only record thru SonicStage. Here is a link to the specs for each of the HiMD units: http://www.minidisc.org/himd_table.html
  18. According to my RH10 manual, under "What you can do through a connection with a computer": So they do charge, but not fully.
  19. The USB only provides a supplemental charge to power the unit during transfer, not enough power to fully charge the battery from what I understand (although it may charge it slightly). A new AC adapter would be your best bet, along with fully discharging the battery from time to time before charging. What type of battery is it by the way? 10wm or 14wm (assuming its a NiMH)?

  21. I'm pretty sure there isn't a "group" button on the RH10. Is the post you found referring to the RH10? Please be careful if you plan on entering service mode to change any settings, many users have rendered their units inoperable by changing settings in service mode. Plus, doing so voids the warranty for the unit.
  22. My RH10 came with a blank HiMD disk, AC adapter, rechargeable battery, dry battery adapter, usb cable, software, remote, earbuds, and even a cool little carrying pouch thing. as ynos stated, the remote isn't very spectacular... I have the backlit remote that came with my NH900 that I use sometimes, but you aren't able to control any recording functions with the remote (except perhaps setting up the recording beforehand and leaving the unit in rec-pause mode, then using the backlit remote to unpause and start recording, although I have never done this). I would do some searching around price-wise, you should be able to find some competitive pricing for this unit.
