Expect that loophole to be closed soon. But something new is in the works: GNU Radio Yes, software defined radio, that learns new tricks by simply adding new software - including HDTV. No wonder, that Hollywood is less than excited and tries to use the corrupt political system again. From the GNU Radio-Site:

And a happy new year from Germany too.

Hmm, 30 seconds? And the charging current? Do a search, we had that topic before. On the other paw, fuel cells are nearing production ready state and miniature internal combustion engines are already in development too. Yes, imagine a car engine shrinked down, so that it fits into a mobile phone, driving a little generator. And maybe we see miniature gas turbines as well... No, I'm not kidding you, check out the usual publications (Technology Review / PopularScience etc...) and you find a bunch of information about these. A few years down the road, you will fill up your laptop at the next gas station...

That one will be interesting. But expect to pay premium for that one...

Use the stabilized adaptor Sony recommends. These el-cheapo 3 Euro wall-warts either don't have enough power or their voltage is too high, damaging the unit.

Kurisu, you're right on that one. Symantec's bloatware becomes crappier with every version. Personally, I would suggest, that Peter Norton should drag Symantec into court for abusing his name... Speaking of the Usenet newsgroups, the problem is to get a real good server with a very good multi-peer connectivity. Otherwise, the choice is limited or you get incomplete files or the stuff has such a short lifetime, that it disappears faster than you can download it. Plus, most ISPs don't even carry the binary groups. So, expect to pay 10 to 20 bucks per month to get good service, but then you do get a good sever, often a choice of servers catering for your needs. I had used NewsFeeds.Com before and they where fast and reliable.

Ok, it's January again. Time to watch those press release pages... Ok, Kurisu, when are you allowed to talk? Or do we have to tie you up and torture you with a feather until you talk?

Are you using the trial version of TotalRecorder? If yes, then this is normal. If you buy it, you'll get an unlimited software, which doesn't insert noises.

Daiv, the 100x is the difference of Hi-LP@48k transfer time compared to real time. It has nothing to do with the cd drive. The tracks must already present on the harddisk AND already be converted to Hi-LP@48k. Only then the 100x will be reached. And of course with a 1 GByte disc only. And I have to agree with Latexxx as well, in hp's case, the K6 is the limiting factor here. With an Athlon XP2000+ I get a 70min. CD into SS2.3 in about 6 minutes. Since it ends up as Hi-SP, transferring these tracks then onto a 1GByte disc takes another 5 minutes (~10 min. for a standard disc).

LP2@132k as a minimum for music, Hi-LP for speech and airchecks on shortwave radio - it's good enough for Radio Pyongyang...

Hmm, the only useable backup on a usb-stick in the washing machine? Not to step on your toes, but I think, it is time for a backup strategy. Mine would be a daily snapshot of the database, keeping these for 15 days, plus one per month for a year, if something legal pops up.

What do you have on your most active Hi-MD disc?
jadeclaw replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
Three disks actually, two contain a collection of mp3s grabbed from the net, plus my Earth, Wind & Fire vinyls - LP2@132k. The third one contains a backup of my Linux - homedir. -
Do you know something we don't know?

civa.org has now removed the worm sources, the security hole is still there. Seeing the load and sluggishness of the server, plus today's database problems, a dual AMD64 opteron ist the way to go...

The actual worm is now probing for security holes in php-scripts in general, especially for unfiltered $_GET and $_POST-variables going into include and system commands... If interested, one worm source is here: http://civa.org/pdf/ The sources are in pv and in the ssh directory. One of the scripts has an unfiltered variable going in, allowing to inject code for uploading. Try this: http://civa.org/gallery.php?show=../pdf/ Yep, that's the same directory. And the worst thing: The owner of the site is playing dead duck and doesn't react on e-mails...

Sonicstage issues w/ HI-SP 256kbps and recording through USB
jadeclaw replied to Da Jay Swizzle's topic in Software
Could it be the kazaa codec pack? Someone reported problems with third party codecs here on the forum. Aside from that, I suggest to do it in two steps. First rip & convert, then transfer. -
@kurisu: As the Heise-Newsticker reports, a new version of the Santy-worm is active. Since Google blocks all searches specific to that worm, it now uses Yahoo instead. So, expect atleast a higher load over christmas. @to all: Merry Christmas!

You might have used up the space set aside for titles. You have a maximum of 1700 characters for that. Before attempting any renaming, open the lid for a moment to initiate a disc reread.

Questions/Comments for Marc's uploading utility.
jadeclaw replied to journalist's topic in Hi-MD Renderer Forum
Could be a Windows problem. Windows is too dumb to release files, despite the fact, that the application properly closes the file. Sometimes it is so bad, that it is necessary to restart the Computer only to release an USB-drive. Btw, a simple umount -l <mountpoint> solves that one in Linux. Without a restart... -
It has been removed by Ebay. I have seen worse, trust me...
-
You have to do it in realtime. Hi-MD cannot upload recordings done on old equipment. Btw, NetMD cannot upload.
-
Some here say Old-SP is better and with some critical sounds Hi-SP produces some nasty effects. However, none of my cds could trip up Hi-SP. And none of these trip up Old-SP. To my ears, both are so close to the original, that I cannot reliably point out one or the other.

Despite that, I strongly recommend plugging the recorder directly into the PC before returning it for warranty service. Also some PDA synchronizing software can create problems too, so deactivating that might help as well.

From Crickets to Rock Concerts...poised to buy NH900
jadeclaw replied to mgdimo's topic in Live Recording
Linky no worky. Reason: Yahoo groups creates virtual links, that expires after logging out/closing the browser. Place it on a regular webserver for download. -
Getting rid of TrProtect: A: Insert disc into a NON-MDLP capable homedeck and do an all erase. B: Insert disc into a Hi-MD-Recorder and do an all erase. C: Try out the intialize function in the disc property dialogue. (most bottom right button in the transfer window takes you there).
