  1. Run EAC For best results use the secure mode of copying (found under drive options) and make an image file (it says cue & image on the button). When you have an image, use daemon tools to mount the image as a CD drive & SB to rip that to the minidisc. As you are using an image and not a physical CD it does not suffer the same problems with keeping sync on the disc.
  2. It sounds like you are getting all confused. If you use the menu's on the unit then you need to navigate them from the unit. If you use the menu's on the remote then you navigate using the remote. You cant goto the menu on the unit & navigate on the remote. Using the remote is fiddly at first & then it will click in your mind and seem so easy. To access the menu on the remote just keep the roller pressed down until the menu pops up (about 3 seconds). I think you were just pressing it down quickly and bringing up the play menu & as there are no tracks on the disc it is saying "No Track". Hope this helps.
  3. Download the one using the connect web connection. When it starts to install you will have to click next. DONT!!!! Goto your temp folder (windowstemp or under XP its Documents&settings/"your login name"/Local Files/temp) and copy the SonicStage temp folder to a new folder on your HDD. You now have a version that can be put onto CD and used whenever you need to re-install. As for a downloadable version of it, sorry dont know of one that does not use the web-download feature.
  4. You could keep the N10 & use it for those times when you need the flashness of a nice looking MD player. Persoanlly however I would try to send it back as the NH600 will do everything that the N10 will do and more. Or you could put it on Ebay with a copy of the receipt (leave off the price & any personal info) as an unwanted & new item, only opened to view. Try sending an email to Amazon though. If your in the UK & its only been a few days then you do have a right to reject the goods without a reason even if not faulty, the catch is that the law says "Within a resonable time" which is not very clear. Send them an Email & see what they will do but remeber to be polite & helpful rather than ranting. It helps if you can package everything as new so that you cannot tell it has been opened (remember to blank the disc if you had one provided) then you may be able to return it as an un-opened gift.
  5. Highest quality modes via USB in decending order are (with units that support that mode) PCM (Hi-MD) Best quality as its a bit for bit copy of the original Hi-SP (Hi-MD) LP2 (NetMD & Hi-MD) Hi-LP (Hi-MD) LP4 (NetMD & Hi-MD) AT3+ @ 48K (Hi-MD) SP on NetMD is fake as stated. It copies the CD into LP2 format, then transcodes the LP2 to SP, then puts the SP on the MD. Sounds ok but its just the same as taking a 64k MP3 and then turning it into a 256k MP3, the MP3 will report that its a 256k mp3 but will sound like a 64k MP3. (poor example but you get the idea). Personally I would withdraw the Hi-MD from eBay and start to use it. Getting 120mins of Hi-SP on an MD disc is better than 80mins of SP which is (in all honesty) the same quality.
  6. So many things can cause this 1. HDD errors (run scandisk & get it to check for bad sectors) 2. Memory Errors (download a good memory tester & run it for the minimum of 1 pass) 3. Driver Conflict (good luck with this one) 4. Bad source file (if its downloaded try downloading again) But the most usual is V I R U S !!!! or Spyware Get your pc a good AntiVirus package & treat it to a run through with it, make sure it is updated before you do a scan. Its also advisable to download Spybot from the net & run that through your PC. Sorry but without any symptoms or error messages (including system spec's) all guesses at fixing it will be pure speculation.
  7. NH1 uses a lithium battery that is (afaik) only available in one size as it is only used in the NH1 & the playback only version of the NH1 (NH3D?). Yes it will record a 50 minute program easily. It will probably record 6 of them one after the other if you are using Hi-LP or 4/5 in Hi-SP. If you are going for the longest recording time on one charge, I think its Hi-LP on a MD disc in Hi-MD mode (not the 1GB disc).
  8. Also check to see if your Minidisc will still record using a standard line-in or mic source. It could be a problem with your minidisc.
  9. Apart from any AM/FM remotes, they will not fit or work.
  10. Ok, I wont tell you......... The encryption key was stored on the HDD that failed. I dont know of any way to re-make that key.
  11. AFAIK (as I dont owne one) the FM remotes have 2 extra pins on them to supply power to the radio. This makes the connector that plugs into the MD bigger. The NH1 does not have the extra pins & also has a smaller connector so it will not work.
  12. SS does not support any other form of DRM than Atrac. It will import any UNENCRYPTED audio files and CD's but only understands Atrac DRM. It means you have to make an audio CD of your downloaded music & then use that to copy into SS
  13. Me.... oh..... um Mature Student (2 years to go) Computer Systems & Networks BSc Hons (started when I was 29. I feel OLD but mixing wth 18-21 year olds is.... .... oh, better get back on track). Playing Eve Online. I run a few websites from a home system (cant provide details as they are for personal use by friends from around the world), but use the space for posting pictures etc in forums I subscride to. I have a habbit of picking a subject I want to know about and reading about it until I cant find any more info on it.
  14. Im guessing that you have a NetMD. They CANNOT transfer files from the NetMD to a PC via USB. You HAVE to use a cable from Line-Out on the MD to Line-In on your soundcard. The only way to put the tracks back onto your PC is to re-rip the entire collection again from CD. Because the version of sonic stage is different (i.e. you re-loaded it) a new key has been generated and thus all your songs encrypted with the old key will now not work correctly. I would suggest if you need to, just re-initilize the MD to erase all the data from it. Also. Update to the latest version of SS as it fixes lots of bugs.
  15. There is a post about an XP patch for the common access modual (database driver) that has a bug under XP (search the forums for the thread, I know I have reccomended it before either here or on minidisct.com). It may be worth putting all the windows updates on your PC and trying again. AFAIK the update is under the non critical section on the windows update site.
  16. Ok, ill add my input Only problem I have had with MD was when I used to carry them in a pencil case (yes it was a LONG time ago) and little bits of pencil shavings got inside a few of them causing read errors but they worked fine after being cleaned. Appart from that I bough 5 discs with an MZ-R3 when it first came out (still got it & working fine although I now use an NH1). The original discs cost me £50 for 5 (WOW) and they are still working the same as the day I bought them. One of my later $ony discs started to show errors on my Hifi equipment (503 deck. Now dead, god rest its parts). but after using it in my NH1 it is still fine. ...... Unless you physically break the disc I dont think you will have any problems. Just keep them in a clean place (no pencil shavings)
  17. I would suggest the following Sony MZ-NH1 (you have volume controll and levels on the remote so wont need to pull the unit out of your pocket to keep adjusting things). Use total recorder to copy the audio from the MD to the PC by playing the MD back with SonicStage. This plays the file from the MD via the USB cable into the PC in real time. Advantage is that it will not trash the file. If you dont have the time for realtime copy then use the other method to transfer the audio. BTW there have been a few reports of SS2.2 not having the required filter anymore for OMA playback that is needed for the faster than realtime copy. Hunt out SS2.1 if you can.
  18. I think sony is copping out of why they removed the USB port. I have used my NH1 for transfering lots of data via discs (No CD drive on the workstations I use). It involved moving 2GB of files from one PC to another (I didn't mind about the transfer rate) When I had put the info onto 1 1GB and a few 300MB discs the unit was 1 or 2 C above ambient. The unit itself felt cool. The only reason I can see that it would cause problems is if the charging circuit on the NH1 is not good at coping with a partly or fully charged being inserted into the cradle.
  19. Actually Hi-LP does not sound to bad through speakers, they are more forgiving than headphones. However saying that, if I am playing the music through my amp its usually while I am doing other things so I am not really listening to it.
  20. I have the NH1 a) It sounds fine when connected to my Technics amp I have no problems with the digital amp, however thats not to say you wont have any. I believe that if the amp you connect to is unterminated then you will have problems. c) No you cant use the remote while connected to an amp. Connecting the remote puts the unit into headphone output mode & you cannot select line out. Also on the NH1, all the functions are done from the remote so its a pain to use for line out (but not impossible) d) Nothing to add. Dont have any tips or problems.
  21. The main use my NH1 will get is as a music playback machine. 2nd use (and one that was missed off the board) is as a data drive storing backups of my important data and transfering documents & program between home & work.
  22. I am going to lay bets that sony does not allow customers to upgrade the items they currently own to support MP3 if they do. I can see a lot of really annoyed Hi-MD owners if $ony release a new Hi-MD with MP3 support in 2 months time & the only difference is the firmware.
  23. Searching is a wounderful thing......... http://forums.minidisc.org/viewtopic.php?t...nguage&start=15
  24. AFAIK the only difference between OMG / SS 1.5 and the current versions is that the newer version of SS allows unlimited checkout's. You will still not be able to "check in" tracks not recorded by the MD & PC that made the original tracks. BTW, check in on NetMD's only checks the file is the same as the one on the PC and increments the check out counter while it removes the track from the MD, it does NOT copy the track back to the PC.
  25. Just one thing to remeber. Hi-MD CANNOT transfer NetMD discs to your PC. It can only transfer files off of a Hi-MD formatted disc to your PC & NOT a NetMD (ordianary) disc
