  1. here's a link for you... md-st500 [edit] the bottom half of the page is in English...
  2. I think commercial radio stations are part of the problem in declining cd sales. Stations owned by large companies play music that is chosen for them by the research and marketing sectors and stations play only the singles they are told to play. This limits exposure to the variety of artists who are producing music. When 1000 people are hearing the same music and 395 of the listeners are interested in purchasing the cd, it only takes one person to buy the cd and make copies for everyone else who wants the album. Increase the variety of music exposed to listeners and you will create a more diverse buying population, 200 people who want this artist, 200 people who want that artist, etc, etc, etc...
  3. ah, nice...buttons on the top. I've learned to appreciate such placement after having used JR for commuting. I'm with Volta, you have a talent for taking close-up pictures and using angles to show off the subject...
  4. Listening Monday through Friday, 45 minutes to work and 45 minutes return trip, so 1.5 hours x 5 = 7.5 hours Saturday and Sunday, between 1 hour to 10 hours, depends if I'm travelling anywhere. Recording At least two hours a week I record music for trades or requests with students. I have made at least two discs a week for the past couple of years for kids because I use music in my lessons as a means to expose them to language and it is inevitable that I get requests for the albums. If we watch a movie and I have the soundtrack, I can have over 30 requests for the week. I prefer to record via line-in so the recipients can delete anything they deem necessary. Granted, I'm in Japan so trading md's is common. If someone doesn't have a portable unit then they most likely have a home system that has md. [edit] and then there recording for my own pleasure off the internet which isn't music. I try and record "wait wait don't tell me" every week for my listening pleasure and "this American life" for both me and as source material for higher level English students. So another two hours there, and then the occasional location recordings such as Buddhist chants at the local temple, and lectures or speeches so I can listen later for clarification.
  5. Yes for me it is. I prefer the clarity of the Sharp auvi amp, but I think the Sony hd-amp is on par with it. I'll wait 'til x-mas season for Sharp to release any kind of hi-md equipment but if they don't then I will have to choose Sony. I don't want to give up listening enjoyment for more space to record music so I need a player with a hd-amp. Granted, the eh1 player has it but I don't care for the battery life.
  6. I'd be interested in a 3rd gen player if they bring back the hd amp.
  7. via google, as I was searching for information on bitrates. [edit] didn't know there was a posting area for more than a year, as I was always searching info on the md.org page. I have a touchpad mouse control and by accident I tapped when I should have stroked while I passed over the blue rectangle.
  8. I asked them about hi-md in December 2004 and am still waiting for the driver. Until this spring I was under the impression that RP was a Sony product, which it is not, so I don't expect a hi-md driver to be important to them. HDD players are in use by more people so you have the better chance of seeing a driver released.
  9. I got the same reply only with hi-md in place of the nw-hd3...hope they are faster with your device driver.
  10. Sounds Eclectic from American Public Radio Hed Kandi from the BBC London Groove Train from Triple J radio in Australia Wait, wait, don't tell me from American Public Radio
  11. What type of recorder is it, md or hi-md?
  12. If you are going to delete the entire disc, try the "format" disc option as a quick band-aid.
  13. A refreshing note after having read many "it's dying" posts recently.
  14. The Sharp MT877 (77), it had the three lights across the top and when recharging all three lights would blink in order from left to right. When you were using the model, the different lights would tell you which mode was being used for the recording, sp, lp2 or lp4. The Sharp md-ds5; the unit colors with color matching remotes and the design on front. Sharp md-ds55, the unit colors and matching colored remotes. JVC Victor xm-c31, I like the tiled look. Sony mz-e610 striped and polka-dot unit...the cheesiness of the unit colors with the stylish carry bags...can't resist 'em.
  15. Yes, one can find good things in Akihabara but the price is not necessarily better. Most large Japanese retailers i.e. Bic Camera, Yodobashi Camera, Ishimaru Denki, have point cards which the Akihabara businesses do not. If you buy something on your point card, you collect 10% of the purchase price toward your next purchase i.e., if you buy an md player for 25,000 en, you will get a credit of 2,500 en on your next purchase or you can store up your points. So if something is priced the same in Akihabara as at a large retail store, in the long run it is more cost effective to purchase from the large retailer. A neat thing about Akihabara is that they usually have new releases of equipment / goods a week or two before the actual market release. Akihabara has also become known for the manga scene so if you like that also, Akihabara is a place to enjoy two pursuits in one place. I recommend you visit on a Sunday. That is when the main street has street traffic blocked off so you can walk freely in the road which helps since Akihabara can be very crowded. Also on Sundays, bands and solo performers set up in the road and perform. One other note, after you have visited five stores you will have been exposed to everything the remaining stores offer so....
  16. The perfect dinner is one where all but one entree is delicious. That way, you have something to nitpick over for the rest of the evening. Frasier Crane

  20. link to picture didn't come through but that is all right, I know what it looks like. Is it the silver edition? and how many hours use has it had, both listening and recording?
  21. I'm snacking on a tray of eight takoyaki. It is a dumpling with octopus in the center and a sauce on top with fish shavings. Luckily an old girlfriend didn't tell me what I was eating the first time I had 'em or I probably wouldn't have given takoyaki a try. They are delicious and available every evening outside my train station.
  22. The advantage of the 80 minute md over the 74 minute md is an extra 6 minutes. The 60, 74, and 80 minute mds can all be recorded in SP, LP2, and LP4.
  23. look to the`top right of your screen at the download icon. SB is the last progam in the list.
