I'll stop by the usual haunts this week and next since there isn't a specific release date. -
Kenwood and Victor (JVC) release player-only MDLP units.

As a legacy fan I'm very pleased to see new releases but I am starting to wonder if October is player-only month... Wish there were a close up of the v55's onboard screen...but I'll see them in person soon enough. -
wow, this is cool. I'm looking forward to what's in store for the upcoming holiday season.

I should probably change exchange my porcelain toilet for a terra cotta version 'cause I don't want to own the same thing everyone else does.

NEW: Sony Hi-MD Walkman Players - MZ-EH70 and MZ-EH50

It is a player unit not a recorder so the program used to transfer music does not apply here. Where can we see the expected battery life information? -
NEW: Sony Hi-MD Walkman Players - MZ-EH70 and MZ-EH50

To nip the speculation in the bud; on the Sony Japan site it says that there is no mp3 support on these models. Unfortunately there is no mention of expected battery life for these units on the site. -
I still see black units in the stores here.

If you have Sony Japan's telephone number you should list it...

No, there have been high end legacy md models recently, if you can consider 10/2004 as recent. Sony released the e730 and e630 both with the hd amp. Sharp has released two legacy models this year but the headphone output on both models is 3mw instead of 5mw. First, as a legacy user, I intended to go hi-md when a full-size hi-md component came out for my hi-fi system. I have a deck for my legacy md's which allows me to play my discs without the wear-and-tear on my portables. Since I can't get this same deal with hi-md, I'm not all that interested in it. Second, as a legacy user and not a hi-md user, I can trade discs much easier with other people...I'm in Japan so disc trading is plentiful.

wow, 30,000 viws on this thread...

I've got enough md units to see me through a long time. Will that be necessary, I don't know. I do believe that sd cards are going to be the future for portable music and if a player/multi-source recorder that meets my needs comes along I may make md my second choice, but I don't think that will happen in the next 3-5 years. I also don't believe that legacy-md will disappear immediately after the expected announcement, though hi-md might. Here in Japan, legacy-md is still a major medium because of the shelf systems/boomboxes that have md players/recorders included. To cease producing portable legacy-players makes the shelf-system/boomboxes obsolete. Also, what would manufacturers have to replace md with in the home-systems for recording, a small harddrive?

I think whatever format the porn industry opts to use will be the deciding factor.

If consumer level md is nixxed (sp?) my guess for what Sony will pursue is sd players. Like md, you can exchange sd cards but unlike md, you can exchange your cards with your phone to facilitate downloading from online music services and sd is interchangeable between multiple devices; cell phone, digital cameras, voice recorders, and pda's. Using an sd card reader, you can exchange info with a computer.

About 10 hours for me, tried to check this morning and occasionally through the day. Got through around 8:00 Tokyo time.

This is probably splitting hairs but when you say "stop development" what do you mean exactly? 1) That Sony will no longer invest in pushing the technology further or 2) Sony will no longer invest in pushing the technology further and will cease to produce any models utilizing the current technology. There are several million bookshelf and boombox systems in homes here that have md record/play integrated into the system. To cease production of portable units is to outdate the current in-home capability of the systems. Without the future possibility of obtaining a new portable player, recordings made from radio, cd and dvd would then be limited to in-home use only.

Sony Hi-MD Walkman MZ-EH1 Pictorial
bland10000 replied to Ishiyoshi's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
They're not the same amp; the e-10 has the d-amp and the eh-1 has the hd-amp. I like the button and remote input being on top of a unit rather than the sides or on the back. For that reason alone, I prefer this unit to the rh910. Then there is that remote, it really looks nice now having seen a picture of it displaying information rather than the plastic piece over it with a facsimile of the unit in display mode. -
Sony Color Collection: Suntory BOSS Coffee Limited Edition

lol... I never knew that disc existed. I don't s'pose the LDP ever released a special edition Koizumi disc in May, 2001, did they? -
yes, on this page look up to your right to where it says "downloads" and click on it. On the page this link takes you to you can do 2 different things. If you need to install Sonicstage then stay on this page and initiate the "Sonicstage 3.2 Full Installer". If you already have SS on your computer but need only the drivers for the 920, look on the left hand side of the screen at "catagories" and underneath select "drivers" link. At this page install the driver titled "Sony Personal Audio Driver" for all Sony netmd/hi-md devices.

At the minidisc.org page, look to your right and in the first vertical row is the heading "equipment". Go to equipment browser to have a look at these descriptions... N1 product description N10 product description N910 product description

since the hardware to utilize is to be released in November, I would hope that the software will be ready by then.

Yes, it is the digital amp in the 920 that differentiates it from the 910. I use to own an mz-n10 and considered then and now that going to a n920 as an upgrade. The ability to swap batteries rather than put on a double A battery pack to extend the play/recording time is more important to me. I sometimes wear suits and the little screw things in the battery pack would occasionally snag in my pocket. That doesn't happen with a spare mimh in the pocket.

I am a rp user also; unfortunately there is not a driver available for hi-md via rp. Some people have been able to get files to transfer to the hi-md device because the netmd was fooled but all people who did this reported that the transfer was slower than netmd speeds. My experience with calling rp and asking about the future availability of a hi-md driver goes like this... me "will a hi-md driver be available soon?" rp rep. "We will announce it when we have it" me "does that mean you intend to have one available?" rp rep. "I don't know, but if we do we will announce it." me "so I could be waiting for nothing?" rp rep. "have you tried our harmony technology? It works well with ipods." me "thanks for your precision answers, goodbye." On the plus side of my using rp, I've never had problems with it. I can store my music on an external hd disc using 353kbps (using realplayer gold) and I can hook that disc up to any computer and use the files...no need to make a library backup etc. I can format my computer's hd and reinstall my music files without a hassle.

I recall hearing that Panny's had a unique size headphone-jack on the body, 2.5 mm instead of the standard 3.5. Is it still the case with this unit and do Panny remotes have a 2.5 or 3.5 phone-jack?
