Is the RM-MC40ELK fully functional with 2nd generation Hi-MD?
bland10000 replied to bland10000's topic in Minidisc
Ah good, MZ, now I can view the groups; I'm conditioned by the other stick remotes to always hold a button down for 3 seconds to find other menus. To access the 6 band equalizer, hold "sound" button for a few seconds. -

I don't think the physical presence of a line-in makes a difference rather it has to do with options present on line-in and non line-in models. So far, the models that do display folders do not have a line in. -

ooh, egg on my face. My remote was plugged into the eh70 player when I tested the groups. Plugged into the rh10 (double-checked this time) I get exactly what you get, MZ. The graphic "gp #" and then I have to toggle through the individual tracks to get into the next group. I mention toggle specifically because scrolling through the folder won't take me to the next group. Rich's shows groups on the dh10p, your 600 shows groups, and my eh70 shows groups. So it works on 1st and 2nd generation player units just not on the rh-10. Perhaps having a line-in makes the difference. -

I've got a disc loaded into my rh10 which has four groups on it. I see four folders...when I enter a folder, I'm able to scroll the songs in the folder and still have the three other folders available. -

no problem, Richyhu; the scroll-wheel alone makes this remote a valuable tool to have with the player. Hi-md holds alot of music so being able to see what is on the disc via scroll-wheel rather than clicking song by song is a time and effort saver. -

Well, I did get the 40 today. Plugged it into my player and right away I was pleased to see the multi-listing of songs like on the mz-n10, n910, n920, and rh10. I like seeing what songs are available without having to actually go forward as we do with the one-line remotes. The toggle forward/backward button is different and easier to manipulate when pushing forward or backward within a song. The ten-track jump buttons are gone but with the scroll wheel there isn't a need for it. I haven't tried it out with my recorder yet but as a replacement for the player remote I think the 40 is worth the purchase. -

Interesting to read that MZ. Yodobashi didn't have an open remote I could use to test so I'll stop by Bic Camera and see if they do. Now I'm not sure if I do want the 40, have to wait and see. -

I think this is enough info, thanks. I'm going back today to pick one up. -

Now that you mention that, Susie, I think I have read that before but it was prior to my start with hi-md so the info had no relevance to me then. Richyu, does the 40 display all the info for you simultaniously; the song title, artist, and disc name? -

If it works fully with the dh10p then I can assume it will be fine with my player, thanks Richyu. Would like to hear from someone regarding the recording functions. -
I went to Yodobashi Camera today intending to pick up an rm-mc40elk remote to use with my rh10 and eh70. The salesclerk said that the 40 is for first generation only and then he showed me the most recent Sony catalog and sure enough, the 40elk is listed as only being compatible with 1st generation. Anyone with a second generation unit given the 40elk a try? and how was it, everything function?

Can't vote in the survey 'cause I view recorders and players as separate. For recorder, rh10; for player, eh70.

No. It is easier to set a trackmarks that can be erased later than it is to set up the a-b marks. Setting trackmarks requires one push of a button while a-b requires four pushes between two different buttons.
-
the 33, 35, and 38 set track marks with the p-mode when recording but not afterwards.
-
With the 38 you can set a--b marks to listen to that section over and over. Click on the playmode button a couple of times and an "A" will appear, let it play until you want to mark a section as finished and click the toggle switch, which sets "B". It is useful for listening to dialogue...

I think it has less to do with the distribution of atrac files and more to do will appealing to a larger segment of buyers.

I saw this posting several months ago and dismiss it as a seller who doesn't know what constitutes a sale. If you want to see feedback of sales Valder has participated in, check out this thread from t-station... Valder

I don't have a favorite Christmas carol, rather I have a favorite caroler and that is Nat King Cole. Any Christmas song he sings does me right.
-
before it is sent, ok...thanks.
-
I was wanting to refresh my memory regarding a sent message but it isn't in my "sent message" folder. Is there something that has to be clicked to ensure our pm's get saved?
-
No, there isn't a hi-md car unit as of yet.

No search function via the remote. The remote is one line so you would be going through each song individually anyways. I can search on my n920 unit as you can on the 600, it is convenient but it requires multiple line displays. Yes, either 1 or 10 track jumps. The song doesn't have to start when you go through the list, hit pause...

YG's review doesn't address the animation... The animations on the 35 are of a fish, a sailboat, and a couple other things. Are they "ultra-cool"? No, not in the least. Once you watch them you will forget about them. Remember these are animations on an led screen so it is not like watching a cartoon. I've never met anyone who wanted to show off their remote animations and people forget their remote even has them because the animations are inconsequential. Nor have I ever seen anyone on the bus or train spend any time watching the things. The 33 does have some when you change play mode and adjust the eq. [edit] the 33 and 35 both have a button that allows you to move ahead or behind by 10 tracks.
