  1. Does this version allow CD-MD transfer on the fly like simple burner? I'm probably the only person in the world that thinks having your hard drive clogged up with music you already have on a 'hard copy' (CD) is a pain in the @$$...
  2. We need budget, mid-range, and pro decks. A Hi-MD equivalent JE480, JB980, and something like a JA20ES. I just hope that IF they do build decks, they don't just build expensive pro ones for studios, and let everybody have a piece of this remarkable new format. Hell, if a decent deck came out, I'd probably stop using CD-Rs. MD was originally conceived as a recording format, so I'm a bit baffled as to why Sony insist on keeping Hi-MD 'portable'. How do you apply to be chairman of Sony??
  3. Not seen many Hi-MD discs in stores over here (loads available on-line), but plenty of the old 74/80min discs (except in my local Dixons - but they're garbage anyway....) Now Sony, build an MDS-JB980 with Hi-MD capability and I'll be VERY happy.
  4. Use the RH10 and as the player and Aiwa as the recorder.
  5. I've been using DAB for quite a few years, Started out with the classic Videologic DRX-601 and have now moved onto a Cambridge Audio Azur 640T. I long for the day when Sony will build a Hi-MD deck, then I can have all the excellent editing features I have with my current SP deck, but with massive amounts of music on one disc!

    Hi-LP or Hi-SP

Even with customised EQ settings you can't avoid the artifacting that comes with Hi-LP. A more direct comparrison would be MP3@128kbps or below. Whereas Hi-SP is almost identiacal to the source.
  7. The PX100s are very good, but if you can get the PX200s for a decent price, go for them.
  8. To be honest, on a portable, its hard to tell the difference between the higher bitrates whether ripped on 'high' or 'fast' settings. I've had a play around with Atraclossless @ 64kbps (Hi-LP) set at 'high' quality and it produced decent results with my 5 year old mp3 files (arrrgh!!!) but normal 132kpbs (LP2)is a lot better. It just comes down to quality vs quantity (i.e. do you want more per disc or better sound).
  9. When installing SonicSuck...erm..Stage 3.3 on my machine, SB was updated as well. Still listed as v2.2, but I assume the codecs for Hi-SP etc are the same as SS. As Connect player seems to still be a fair way off, and talk of more new SonicStage versions, one day we may also get SB with all the bitrates listed. Allow it to transfer files (mp3/wav/wma etc.) as well as CDs and problem solved...
  10. I'd like to see Hi-MD move more towards home recording (decks!). However, I've got a small mp3 player for use at work, its pants but it cost £8. it will be replaced with a Hi-MD portable if drag n drop was included...
  11. Yep. Why not the ability to just plug the unit in as an external device, then drag an drop audio files through explorer? Result!
  12. I think I'm turning Japanese...
  13. Just stick a dual laser in. One for old skool, one for Hi-MD! Fantasy right? Only thing I could think to coming close to replacing MD would be recordable UMD, but this has been covered in many threads.
  14. Until Sony builds a Hi-MD deck for proper recording/listening my old SP discs (over 300 of 'em) stay as they are. Plus I've got 9 blank Hi-MDs ready to use for my portable/compilation stuff.
  15. Nearly 8 hours of Hi-SP music is more than enough for me anyway. Drag 'n drop without limitations/DRM would be sweeeeet.
  16. Sennheiser PX100's. Still good phones an pretty cheap too.
  17. Just get hacking. Mine can now make coffee!
  18. Seem to be hard to find the M100/10. Not seen any in the UK. I just hope Sony have got some new units in the works (and a deck!)

    Sony MZ-M100

Any news on the new units that are (allegedly) in development?
  20. Sennheiser PX100s are pretty fine and not much cash. Also the newer PX200's I sometimes use a pair of EH150s (~£20) and they're even better (but a bit big for true portable use).
  21. All Sony needs to do to be successful is LISTEN to it's customers. Type "Sony hi-md deck" into google and you get loads of hits from message boards saying: "when are they available?" "I'd have one IF they were available" "I would really like a Hi-MD deck" etc. C'mon Sony, for Pete's sake...

    Farewell, DAT.

I just hope they build a deck. And that 'professional' equipment does not mean high prices.
  23. The newest version of Sonicsuck...I mean stage, isn't really that bad. A lot better than v2.0 I got with my first unit, although I would love SimpleBurner to just re-encode everything 'on the fly.' Maybe when this Connect player thing comes out? We shall see.

    2GB+ Minidiscs?

FAT32 has a limit on the size of a single file (2GB???), but if each track is a new file, there shouldn't be a problem.
  25. Three to be precise. 1GB blues are nice, hope they bring out more colours (if the format lives) Sweeeeeet..... Now just need Sony to bring out some new models or confirm that they are not ditching such a superb and unique format.
