  1. A quick tip: "R" will always mean the unit is a recorder. "D" that it's a downloader. "F" that it has an FM Tuner, and "E" that it's a player.
  2. Yo. Thanks to T0fler for his patience when Paypal and my bank wouldn't let us transfer money. Hope the NHF-800 makes him as happy as it made me. Thanks and good luck!
  3. Google for Exact Audio Copy. IIRC, it can rip those tracks to WAV, even from copy protected CDs. Since you own the CD, your backing up of your music is perfectly legal. You can compress the WAVs to FLAC, or WMA-Lossless. This one and WAV are perfectly compatible with SonicStage and you shouldn't have a problem importing them. Try not to rip to Mp3, so you only go through one process of transcoding, and therefore avoid degradation of your music's quality.
  4. Actually, SS converts files to OMA only when it comes to transferring them to a device. You can import a WMA and it will still remain a WMA until you transfer it, in which case it will generate an OMA version of it and store it, or generate it and delete after file transfer, depending on your settings.
  5. I would suggest converting your MP3's to WAV, or WMA lossless, and importing those into SS, and then delete the Wav/WMA-L's. SS should transfer either just fine, and since it's lossless, there is no more degradation than what would occur if you were to transfer from Mp3 to Hi-MD directly.
  6. Sorry, that won't do. Thanks for the interest, though.
  7. Yup. Allowing unlimited uploads and removing the DRM from Atrac files, from one release of SS to the next one, qualifies as getting their act together IMHO, at least for MD users. Besides, my signature is a take on that of another member's. (Mutant 1345): "God came to earth and said to the chicken, Ye Chicken shall cross the road. And the chicken crossed the road and there was much rejoicing..." And knowing that Sony's people sometimes view this forum, well, I decided to change mine as some sort of subtle/not so subtle suggestion.
  8. It will pretty much depend on the drive that SS is using. If SS or Simple Burner can be fooled into thinking there is an actual drive when you're using one of Nero's or Alcohol 120's virtual ones, the physical properties of the media shouldn't matter to the software. The point is if the CD can or cannot be read as an audio CD by the system.
  9. Thanks guys. I'm getting a pair of Etymotic ER4P for my birthday, so those will help me make a decision should I find a demo unit.
  10. I don't know about everybody else, but I'm smelling an awful amount of flamebait in this post. May I request this topic is closed, mods? I guess that the PSP, the PS2, PS3, their games, all the Trinitrons, Vaios and Discmen will not count for anything now that *Insert gloomy background music here* Minidisc is doomed. Poor Sony. We barely knew ye.
  11. The PC Link included with MD units is an output-only device. It won't work as a capture device.
  12. Hey, Sony. You use low power motors when it comes to battery powered playback or recording to extend the life of the battery. Not bad. How about a blazingly fast hi-power mode used only when the unit is running on USB power in order to upload even faster? Some sort of lossless codec. Either Atrac Lossless, or FLAC. Come on. It's not like you'll have to pay for using it anyway.
  13. Try re-ripping and transfering one Wav. Then one Mp3. Make sure you are not ripping with something that adds DRM to your ripped files (WMP, for example) See what makes SS choke. This has to be tackled step by step, to see where the problem lies. Maybe your music files have gone corrupt enough for SS to not understand them, though other players can read them just fine. What are you using to rip? What are you ripping to? Are some of the files you are trying to transfer, by any chance, variable bitrate Mp3? SonicsStage chokes on those. Got FFDShow or any other codec packs? If I had a nickel for every time SonicStage has given me problems... I couldn't even afford a lollipop at the store.
  14. Complicated? Nonsense, my young Padawan learner. 1: Connect regular MD player to Hi-MD recorder via analog. (Or optical if you have a deck with toslink output) 2: Record your MD tracks to Hi-MD using the codec of your choice. (Wav or Hi-SP. Don't use Hi-LP) 3: Using the new SonicStage 3.2, upload as many times as you want or need. 4: Convert your uploaded tracks to Wav through SonicStage if recorded through analog, or use Hi-MD Renderer if optical. You can also use Hi-MDRenderer for ANY .oma file that you want to convert to Wav, Flac, Ogg, or Mp3. 5: Master the Light Side of the Force, and tell others about Hi-MD, SS 3.2, and Hi-MDRenderer.
  15. I can't believe no one has said "Hi-MDRenderer" even once in this thread.
  16. Don't worry. Does that USB thingy work as some sort of converter that will let you "inject" audio to your Mac? If so, you're set.
  17. Hmm. $200 for an RH910 VS $400 for that device plus the media. ZOMF!!!11 Hi-MD doesn't have a prayer! I HAVE BEEN LIVING A LIE ALL THIS PAST DECADE! Why oh God, whyyyyyyyy????111!!!!!11One! Seriously, I don't see any reason why this topic should continue. Sure, CF recorders like this are good and useful, but labeling it the "Hi-MD Killer" is akin to answering a crossword puzzle with a Sharpie.
  18. Plug your playback device (VCR, Radio, Edison Phonograph :-p ) line out to your Mac's line in, use your recording software of choice, and let her rip.
  19. You know something, I'm thinking it is Apple, and not Sony, the one dropping the ball here. If these new units could upload ATRAC with no restrictions the way SS 3.2 allows now, in Hi-SP, it would kill the I-pod. Do you think it would benefit Apple that someone releases an uploading recorder that also plays MP3, wav in addition to ATRAC? It's not that Sony doesn't want, but Apple is just not letting them. For once I'm glad I'm a PC user.
  20. All right, but how much do you offer for either unit?
  21. I know. But as detailed as that discussion might be, I want to hear your opinions as Hi-MD users. Word of mouth, y'know? Wavs in mono? That's like eating a sandwich without the top bread slice.
  22. Still can't beat Hi-MD. You can get 9 1GB discs for those 54. Yeah, it's slower, but boy, it's cheap! And I'm sure HI-MD media will soon become as cheap as old-style MDs.
  23. Goodbye to my NHF800, sold it to T0fler here at the forum. Make him as happy as you made me, my first ever Hi-MD unit. You, and SonicStage 3.2 are some of the greatest things to have ocurred in my life.
  24. Um, not that I know of. I know there are MD decks that will take CD text info and copy it to the MD, but nothing that works the other way around.
  25. I suggest that you re-rip your CD's to Wav or Windows Media lossless, import those to SonicStage, and then transfer. Make sure to uncheck the DRM box. Then delete the Wav's or WMA-L from your system, if you want.
