  1. As long as they check everybody regardless of race, skin color, accent, language, I'm fine. (Don't live in NY, though.) I have had certain... disagreements with the local police even when riding on a friend's car. Quite... uncivilized, if you ask me.
  2. I went to Fry's electronics today, trying to find the new Hi-MD. Only found the camera MD unit, for 400 dollars or so. Only 2 HiMD blanks left, and after hesitating, I didn't bring one with me. And what do I see? A Creative Muvo2. With Radio Recording capability (I could use my FM transmitter out of pretty much anything, and record with that thing, w00t.) But I just found out it records in 4-bit, 22 KHZ, IMA-PCM! Even Hi-LP would sound better than that. The world can keep their Rios, Crap-Pods, Muvos (Ok, only the I-river that can record and upload in Wav is up to Hi-MD's awesomeness) and similar devices. Hi-MD separates the men from the boys. MD detractors can say whatever they want. Nothing rocks more than using my NHF800 to record music off those TurboGrafx CD games that crash any ripping software and then uploading the WAVs to my computer, to do with them whatever I wish after using Hi-MDRenderer. Top that, Apple.
  3. We can always find our way around that stupid 1-upload. (If anyone feels like complaining, get Hi-MD Renderer and render to Wav/flac, and get back to me.), so that's not a problem. Sony simply should advertise and tell people: "Record, upload. Burn. Share. Don't get I-PO-ed, get a MD." Or: "I-Pod users have a dream. Minidisc users don't. They are recording their reality and sharing it with their friends." But nooooo... Sony's arcane way of doing things ensures their right hand team doesn't know what their left hand team is doing. Proof? The previous versions of SS. Sony Japan management was completely unaware how badly it sucked. Help us, Obi Wan Stringer. You are our only hope.
  4. Either the disc is dirty or scratched. I had an old Memorex disc do that to me.
  5. F*** NO! One of the reasons Az doesn't go into that it's because there just too much light to go to bed and fall asleep, and it's too damn hot. I think it's going to wreak havok in most people's internal clocks. Gee, why not make DST a year round thing? No, wait, let's make it so that the US is always facing the Sun, that way we won't need to turn another light on. There's only so much the body can take.
  6. I pay 55 USD for mine, but they give me analog cable with it. History Channel and Cartoon Network, w00t.
  7. As of now, a Nintendo DS. Man, it rocks. Oh, the possibilities.
  8. I think my connection is pretty much the same as Kurisu's. 256-ish up, 4/5 Mbit down, 30 GB cap per month, not exceeding 2 GB per day. I wonder if I'll ever be able to even upload 1 GB. *shrugs* They will only charge me if I exceed 30 GB per month, and warn me if I exceed 2 GB per day.
  9. @Volta: Yup. You got it right. All lossy codecs aren't as good as the original. What burns me is people who treat ATRAC as if it sounded worse than one of those Edison phonographs.
  10. Imagine what it would have been of HDTV if a similar war had erupted. Screw them. I'll just stick to regular DVD until the storm settles.
  11. Fry's Electronics carries them.
  12. Nah, I'm sure they became impotent themselves while working for Apple. Impotent, but rich.
  13. As I posted before the Great Forum Collapse: Another lie is that of "ATRAC sucks, therefore, everything related to ATRAC must suck too." All lossy codecs suck. True SP for life, yo. Long live 292 Kbps.
  14. ^^ And BioWare. KOTOR, w00t.
  15. Agreed with Rombusters. Try looking for a guy called Sony-Dude on Evilbay. I got my NHF800 remote from him for cheap, and works great. Though the radio reception here in Phoenix is sucky.
  16. Unfortunately, it's like recording from the radio, and can't be left unattended. Meaning, there will be no track marks copied, because all the computer will be doing is record a digital stream coming to the computer from the MD. A better solution might be using a HI-MD, record from the optical out using PCM (if you don't want quality loss) and upload, and then use Hi-MD Renderer to free it from Sony's cursed DRM.
  17. I'd blame the K-Lite codec pack. If it has FFDSHOW, it's probably that. As practical as they might look, codec packs are not good for your computer.
  18. Play your discs on another unit. It sounds like the reading block is busted, like RomBusters mentioned.
  19. Keep also in mind that SS will accept WMA files, but will convert them to ATRAC.
  20. I hate to agree with Hobgobling, but I think it's the truth. However, it might not be possible to beat Apple at its own game. How do you improve on the Ipod's simple and functional design?
  21. You see, that's the problem. At least in Europe Sony is putting money into letting some soccer fans know that there is a digital recorder/uploader thingy. While here in the US, they are simply sitting back and expecting people to come across it by luck. Or maybe, they are expecting that Apple might start telling people about Minidisc. Yeah. I'm inclined to believe that Sony is actually considering that by some sort of cosmic coincidence, Apple will start advertising MD for them. *sarcasm* Even the Bible says something about similar stuff: How will they believe in the one they haven't heard of? And how will they hear if no one tells them?
  22. WOOT! Enter Hi-MD Renderer: The files were in my Hi-MD Folder, and already split. Ran Marc's application and converted them to WAV. It worked! No need to re-record. Marc, if I ever father a child, I might consider naming him after you.
  23. @BananaTree: DST= Daylight Savings Time.
  24. Mostly SP or HiSp. Anything less would be... uncivilized.
  25. To make the story short, I'll just tell you I uploaded some files, and two songs had been put together by the recording. So I try to divide them in SS, and the software choked, and gave me an error, rendering the whole track unplayable. "Cannot find the rights to this track". You wouldn't believe the amount of cursing I spewed at the mothers of Sony's engineers and their music division. Granted, I was running a messenger and another media player at the time, so that's probably why. Good thing is, I can simply re-record those songs again and re-upload. I just hope I never encounter this error with another song again. And Sony, if you are reading this, I hope that you do NOT use SonicStage to handle your engineers' payroll. Though whoever came up with your stupid scheme deserves to find himself without rights to his wage.
