Also, it's better not to mess with HMA files. I heard somewhere that the "H" stands for Hex, and that evil spirits will possess your MD and your computer if you mess with them. Kidding there. But really, don't go trying to edit them or copying them to another disc. They're heavily encrypted and won't play if you drag them somewhere else.

You know something, it wouldn't kill Sony if they allowed to upload WAVs with the other units. I can live without Hi-SP and Hi-LP on a Mac. But noooooo. Mr. Stringer, if you are reading this, tell the guys at engineering not to put the cart before the horse, please?

Mercedes-Benz, IBM, Siemens, BMW... it's only natural the German version of SS worked. <<<< Look! A german shepherd!

How about advertising and letting people know that Hi-MD DOES play Mp3s? Also, someone compared WMA to a disease. What's wrong with WMA Lossless?
-
I'm not that well-versed on troubleshooting SS, however, I have a hunch that the Personal Audio Driver may fix it. Try searching the downloads section of the forum. Good luck.

One more rant. Remember all those artists who wanted to Rock the Vote, before the elections? Where are they now that their country needs them? Show yourselves, hypocrites!

Yes. Download Total Recorder or Audacity, connect your HI-MD to the PC, open Sonicstage and play the music. Use TR or Audacity to record that music real time. I know it's slow, but for the files you have already uploaded, it's the only option. If the uploaded OMA's are still in your system, use Hi-MD renderer to convert them to the format of your choice. (OGG, MP3, WAV, or FLAC) and then you can freely do what you want with them. BUT, if you want to be able to upload as many times as you want in the future, upgrade to SS 3.2. Note that this will work only with new recordings. The ones you have uploaded already won't be able to be uploaded again. And also, turn off the DRM option while you're at it.
-
Good. SS gave me that error with a disc that had a physical defect. Try uploading another recording in another disc. I am almost sure the disc cannot be read, from what you tell me. But first install SS 3.2 That one will not erase the tracks after a failed attempt, so you can record them real time using Total Recorder or Audacity through SS playbak. SS 3.0 WILL erase failed tracks.
-
Have you tried another disc? Also make sure the write protection tab is closed. And that the little spike that detects the tab is in good condition. That's the only thing I can think of. Unless the player itself is bananas.
-
I agree. You don't have to keep it to the latest specifications. The only thing I see needing some upgrade is the video card, but if you are not doing any gaming, or video editing, then don't bother. If you upgrade, just buy a motherboard, CPU and RAM (and maybe a card, as yours might not be compatible with the new board) and reuse all your drives. I have an old 6-gig, a 20 gig, and an 80 gig. And none of them is full to the brim. Also TB=Terabyte.

FFDShow is known to drive SS nuts. See if uninstalling it does the trick. If not.. then.. damn. -__-

Is it Sonicstage 3.2 what you're using? Kurisu, we should sticky-fy something that urges people to forsake the included disc because it will give you cancer. That way we can make sure everyone goes for SS 3.2 Ynos, the way you describe it, sounds more like there is something physically wrong with the disc. It cannot upload it because it cannot read it. Try uploading another recorder, but first install SS 3.2 as it allows unlimited uploads.

^^ And when I ship internationally, no one from Europe or Australia bids on my stuff. It's a no-win issue.
-
If it's not Hi-MD, you cannot check in anything you recorded on the unit. NetMD was never intended to do so.
-
Kurisu, I know the Mp3 roll off thingy is not counted as a bug, but if we don't tell Sony about it, how will they get it right for a possible 3rd Gen? I am positive all our collective cries (FREEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM! ) had something to do with the unlimited upload feature and the non-drm Atrac options on SS 3.2 Sony, please. Get it right. You know that good MP3+Minidisc is a safe bet. Who cares what format is played, as long as you are selling the machines and the media to play those formats?
-
It is also suspected Sony did this on purpose to make the Atrac Codec sound better, by degrading the way MP3 is played. And knowing how stubborn some Sony engineers can be, I don't doubt it.
-
Also, if you got any codec packs, get rid of them. They're generally bad for your system.
-
Being a foreigner, I'll be careful not to make this sound harsh: But I'm concerned that president Bush hasn't shown even 10% of the worry for N.O and the victims of Katrina as he does for this just cause. Come on, people are dying out there, in the heart of the country! *goes pout in the corner*
-
WMP will play any Atrac bitrate as long as SS is installed. It simply loads the codec, and lets it rip.
-
They could have done it, but up until Mr. Stringer's arrival to Sony's HQ, every team was competing against each other, and as much as I hate to say it, Sony's right hand didn't know what the left one was doing. Also, their music divisions were afraid you could distribute high quality digital recordings on MD over and over with high speed. (Encode to SP, download to NetMD, give the disc to a friend, repeat ad infinitum) hurting their music business. Of course, it was all paranoia. With SS 3.2 you can do that with Hi-SP, without DRM and unlimited checkouts, and so far them Sony execs haven't been lacking the money to buy their diamond and ruby-studded gold combs. And to quote N'Sync, I like it that way.
-
Realplayer is the only one. No, no plugins for winamp. It was pretty much by luck that RP is compatible with NetMD. Be aware, RP is a huge piece of bloatware, that WILL keep tabs on you.

Transfering Mp3s to Hi-MD player as ATRAC3 problem

Go to the Nero website and download the most recent update for your version of Nero. It should give you image drive, Nero speed and Nero express. -

But you can split those ATRAC/OMA from your computer. -
NetMD was never intended to upload from the beginning. Sorry about your trouble. See if WinMD can work for you. It's paid, though. Not freeware.
