If you're in the USA, Circuit City, Radio Shack, Best Buy and even Sears carry them. No need to go purchasing online if you feel uncomfortable. I think I saw one even at WalMart. Edit: There is always the excellent Minidisco.com

Ok. We'll need a bit more info to see where the problem is. Is he trying to upload his recordings to the CPU, and then recording to CD? IIRC, you cannot upload PCM yet as it is. Think SS converts it into OMG/Atrac. (correct me if I'm mistaken.) And Nero won't convert Atrac/OMG to CD. So his best option is to copy his music from the MD unit to the computer, but in Real time. (MD into play mode, connected to the CPU's line-in jack, and some media player into record mode, encoding into Wav/MP3.) then burn those recorded tracks to CD. It's the best I can think of. Good luck.

Alternatives to SS and OpenMG?
Syrius replied to eternlsadness's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Last time I used RP10, it gave the (grayed out) option to transfer files to a NetMD in Hi-SP and Hi-LP, in addition to the available LP2 and LP4. It seems to me that RP 10 would work with HIMD upon installing the required codecs and drivers. ( I had SS 2.0 installed at the time) -
oh the joys of little sisters

Or, in case you don't want to apply anything to your player, open the door on each of them, and look at the serial number. Try to memorize the last digit for each one. I did that with two R 37s once. -
Perhaps I posted in the wrong topic. Please don't think I was just trying to fill the forum with blabber. Wonder what my reply was. Edit: I just remembered. Didn't seem to me that there was a question or request for help in his original post. More like he was stating what he planned to do. Thanks.

An odd/old one that we missed; the Sharp MD-SS421 [56k!]
Syrius replied to Christopher's topic in Minidisc
In case you want to know what exactly those things are, they are called Kodamas, and are benign forest spirits, according to director Hayao Miyazaki on his film "Princess Mononoke". Go rent it, watch it, (DON'T select the English audio option. It's awful. Japanese+subtitles=good), and you'll see them in it. -
When I use Music Match Jukebox, I had to select my optical converter as the mixer device on the player's settings menu, and restart the program in order to get any audio out of the thing. Also, you may want to go to control panel, and select the digital audio output as a preferred device, and check "Use only preferred devices" at least for your recordings. Can't think of something else. Good luck. PS. Try an external USB to toslink converter. Onboard digital audio can be troublesome sometimes.

I wonder, if the disc itself is polycarbonate, and formulated to withstand the heat of the laser, wouldn't it be possible to clean it with regular CD cleaning fluid, and tissue for camera lens? If it can't damage a CD, I don't think it can damage a MD.

Mind if I borrow that to use as a sig on another forum? I like it!

"cannot load rights information" any way round thi
Syrius replied to liljoeyjordison's topic in Minidisc
IIRC, RealPlayer will let you use LP4 all right. -

It could be the USB to optical converter what is causing the problem. If you have a receiver with digital input, try plugging your Powerbook and let her rip. Also, try recording from a DVD player to your MD using the optical cord. That way you can pinpoint if it's the MD, or the USB converter. Hope your MD has not developed a severe case of incompatibility with optical connections. Good luck.

I don't have a HIMD unit yet, but when I do, I'll only use PCM for copying CDs to HIMD, SP for old-style MDs, and HiSP for HIMD discs.
-
Ok. So the NH1 IS sexy all right. One down. Where is the rest, Sony? Sharp, when are you going to start making HiMD? We need you to do so!
-
I don't know. Can't seem to find a single Hi-MD unit that I find aesthetically appealing. That button thingy some units have under that screen is just plain ugly, IMHO. After seeing the sophistication (for its time) of my first R 37, the practicality and great design of my SR 60, and the simple, yet stylish appearance of my E 35, the new units remind me of those 50's movies with robots going crazy and attacking all humans. Is it just me, or should Sony try to make their Hi-MD a little bit more, dare I say, sexy? (If an SR 70 is not a good example of the word "sexy", I don't know what is.)
-
Well, I started with a generic, but nicely working R37. Sold it and got a Sharp SR60, which I love above everything Sony makes, except for the 10 sec antishock protection. Got also an E 35, but I find myself going back to the SR 60, as it seems to be just right in every aspect.

I use an Onkyo UD-5 USB to toslink converter. Unit works like a charm, can use it on any USB-enabled system, came with a copy of WinDVD for free, optical cable, one of those mini-toslink converters for use with portables ... and it only costed me 20 bucks at Fry's electronics! w00t!

Somebody answer me something. How does a HI-SP track sound compared to a regular SP track, both made from the same source, through the optical cable? If you can't use HI-SP through the optical cable, how does it sound compared to SP made through similar means?

I think I know why the ones on Ebay are so cheap. Check this one, original from Sony Japan... http://www.minidiscaccess.com/item.html?PRID=1152714 And check this other one, which is pretty much the same picture for every seller that comes up when you enter a search for that battery on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewI...5714335311&rd=1 Now, no offense to people from those countries, but all those sellers are based on Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. I suspect counterfeiting here.
-
Really? Can you post link? I have only seen them for about 10 pounds, and with the shipping, it ads to more than an official gumstick here.
-
Hi all. Don't know where exactly could this go. For some who would like to get a replacement battery for your MD units which use the Gumstick models, you can order a generic replacement from Radio Shack, either online or on the phone. http://www.radioshack.com/product.asp?cata...5Fid=960%2D2103 Of course, I'll keep this one as a backup. I don't want to use my old and dear E35 with generic batteries only. But it's a nice spare for when the official gumsticks run out in the middle of a workout session. If this is not the proper section, feel free to move to the right one, mods. Thankee.

I still like my Sharp SR 60 and my MZ E35... -__-

Atrac3 surprisingly bad in a decent test
Syrius replied to rauer's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Yeah, sure.. compare Ogg to Atrac3 (which is designed to give you small files to cram lots of music into a single MD). I want to see how Ogg and Lame compare when put to the test against regular Atrac. (SP-mode) -
How a Sharp SR60 was brought back to life.
Syrius replied to Syrius's topic in Technical, Tips, and Tricks
Yup. It's working just fine. Now what do I do with the R37, and the E35 I bought as replacements for my "dying" SR60? -
As durable as the MD's are, I have had some of them getting dusty, or messy with tiny particles that manage to slip in from the back, where the spindle grasps the disc itself to make it spin. (Come on, it's not hermetically sealed) I once had to crack open the shell and wash the disc with mild soapy water, and a very fine sponge. And super-glue back the shell. It worked, but I'm sure there must be another solution. Thanks. Da Dogg.
