  1. Also the 40ELK is overkill for the RH10 and the remote lcd will NOT stay lit when connected to the RH10 (I have personally tried and failed with several attempts). The non-LCD remote with the RH10 should be good enough. Set the levels after you place the unit on Rec-pause (if you are going stealth place it on HOLD after you set your levels in Rec-pause). Remember it has to be in Rec-pause for you to change the Record settings to Manual Record (not ACG). then use the remote to take it off pause (the remote will override the unit when it is on HOLD) and finally, place the remote on HOLD once you have everything set (that way you don't accidently hit pause or stop later). It's fairly easy with that remote and the RH10 will be more than clear in the dark. You CAN change the recording levels using the RH10's standard remote. Try the FF and REV (<< and >>) button. It works for me on mine. If I were using a battery box going line in, I would definitely put the levels closer to 28/30 unless it will be blazingly loud. Still never had it be too loud going battery box into the line input. 20/30 would probably be too low unless your mics are super high sensitive and the music is too loud for comfort. Keep the mic sens on Low for the RH10.
  2. I was wondering if anyone has ever bought dust cap plugs for the miniplug ports on the MD. I once had a CD player with a line out and it actually had a dust cap plug that would fit my Sharp DR7 line input. It was more of a skinny pole with a cap not the ususal optical port dust caps that are more square with a shorter "pole". If you know of any place that sells these or have other suggestions for protecting mic and line input ports on the MDs, please post.
  3. I noticed you have the NH900. I had that in combo with the 40ELK and it worked great. However, when I tried the 40ELK on my RH10, it was very limited, especially the backlight functions. With the NH900, I could set the backlight to always stay on, which was vital for concert recordings. I never could access that option with the RH10. Not sure if that would be the same with the RH910. I now have a RH910 but my 40ELK was sold with my NH900. Anybody have a RH910 and 40ELK combo? Can you attest to the backlight functions? In the meantime, the 38ELK will do the job for me. Still can't get the backlight functions to stay on with the RH10 or RH910. Just thought I would put these experiences in the thread before someone goes and spends $50 to $80 for a nice 40ELK that won't stay lit with the RH10 or RH910 (maybe).
  4. Since SS 3.0 you do NOT have to first delete the tracks off the Hi-MD before doing any combine or divide. Is the original poster using Hi-MD or MD? If it's MD, then you gotta do it the manual way regardless.
  5. This is also part of the recent "Save in WAV format" when uploading from the Hi-MD functionality that was recently added. I have had great success with my RH10 and RH910 uploads and burning using SS 3.x. Now, playing my mp3 files from the Hi-MD via SS, that is another area where Sony is still not getting the whole picture... http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showt...indpost&p=55692
  6. Folks, it even states in the SS 3.1 Help files that you cannot play these mp3 files. Look under the section Header "ATRAC Audio Device: Playing back a track" ! Notes Tracks on a VAIO Music Clip, certain types of Network Walkman, an ATRAC CD, or an MP3 CD cannot be played back. If you play back tracks on a Net MD device, sound will be produced from the Net MD device, not from your computer. MP3 tracks transferred to an ATRAC Audio Device that supports MP3 transfer cannot be played back. MP3 tracks transferred to a Hi-MD that supports MP3 transfer cannot be played back.

    Etronics Rh10

While we are complaining. The manual for my new RH910 list these for some of the supplied accessories: Carrying pouch (1) No pouch in my bag. Did anyone else get a carrying pouch with their RH910? My RH10 did ship with a carrying pouch. The outside of the RH910 box DOES NOT list a carrying pouch as one of the supplied accessories. Anybody else get a carrying pouch with their RH910?
  8. Anybody noticed that you CANNOT playback mp3 files off a Hi-MD via SS? How lame is that? Again, we find that mp3 functionality limited by Sony. Come on. If it can encode and write in mp3, WHY CAN'T IT PLAYBACK IN MP3???? [attachmentid=243] mp3.rtf
  9. I just got my RH910 last night and the RM-MC38ELK that came with NH900 (I sold it with the 40ELK remote) works almost 100%. The ability to change sound is limited to EQ on and EQ off and the menus on the remote are play mode and Options (AVLS, Beep, etc). Still it does the job for the basic stuff like volume, ff rew, etc. Since the RH910 doesn't come with a remote in the US (and only a non-LCD otherwise), it is an upgrade. I have seen these remotes for about $30 on ebay. I also have the RH10 and the non-LCD remote is basic at that...the 38ELK does works with it in exactly the same functional level as with the RH910.
  10. There will be NO differences in the Hi-MD bitrate recordings: Hi-LP, Hi-SP and PCM. You will not be able to record the old "standard" or "NetMD" bitrates on the RH910. There is no taper history because these just came out last month. I have the RH10 and it records very well and I should have a RH910 by the end of business today. There really is no difference between the two so far as a recorder. I also had the NH900 for about 9 months and I can attest that there is no noticeable difference between the Hi-MD recordings of the NH900 and the RH10. I would keep the NH700 and buy the 40ELK remote if I were you. But, the RH910 does have the AA battery option and a larger display. The differences are really ergonomics and power supply, not the recording quality...but, then again, having your power die in the middle of a recording has a lot to do with quality... M
  11. You can also use Simple Burner to rip in PCM. (oops, sorry I see that was posted above; but here is the link for the SB files...) http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=5552
  12. Well, I was easily swayed by the OLED of the RH10 and I couldn't see myself holding onto the NH900 after that... I have enjoyed the RH10 in Live recording settings. I actually plan to take the RH910 along for Live recording and have it in pause record for those sets that go over 92 minutes. I assume it to be almost exactly the same as the RH10 internally. I will also be using the RH910 to record my weekly local church choir performance instead of the RH10 (I maintain a site for the weekly performance in mp3 format). That will give a good trial for it on the Live Recording side of things. It will be the harder working cousin of my RH10 which will be saved for the big nights on the town... M
  13. I took the plunge today when I noted the Sony Style site in the US offering 12 months same as cash. I really love these new 2nd Gen Hi-MD with the mp3 playback. I download a great deal of mp3 shows off http://www.archive.org and the ability to playback mp3 without converting to atrac is cool for me. Therefore, to supplement my RH10 and MZ-S1, I bought a RH910. 12 months same as cash on all purchases until June. I sure wish I had that option when I got my RH10 last month. Still have my RM-MC38ELK remote, so I plan to give it a whirl. I also plan to chunk that NH-10WM battery and use some real deals instead. I was really holding out for that RH710 but the ability to add the AA attachment and have a mic input put the RH910 over the edge. Plus, interest free financing is a plus, even if the price is a little inflated at $199. I could have saved $30 but I couldn't sneak a new purchase like that past my wife right now This will be my work and car trip Hi-MD. Can't wait to work on some cool mixes. Okay, I worked 60hours plus this week, I owe my ears a treat every now and then Just thought every one would like a headsup on the special going on at Sony. Feel free to move this to any forum if the Mods think I am posting in the wrong place...

    Rh710 Vs. Dh710

Just found this picture and this discussion going on about the RH710... http://forum.lowyat.net/lofiversion/index.php/t148621.html [attachmentid=235] Anybody know anything about this forum? Looks like a Malaysia hang out for techie freaks...
  15. Sure you can use a powered mic with that line input. Are you sure you have the 600, not the 600D? The 600D is the US version and only has the USB input and is a downloader only. The 600 was Europe only, I think.
  16. Ok, I did the test today using a line input recording from my NET MD MZ-S1 in SP and LP2 mode. I was able to split the tracks, combine tracks (mark off) AND title the tracks using my 2nd Gen RH10 without any error messages or problems. I get the standard "System File Writing" message. The LP2 tracks had a "LP:" prefix in the titles. So, to answer the question... YES, you can title/split/combine Net MD tracks on the RH10. This worked for both SP and LP2 recorded tracks, no reason why it would not for LP4.
  17. 1. I don't think you will be able to manipulate/edit any tracks from LP4 mode on the RH10. I think the lack of NetMD recording prevents that. I don't think you can do that with SS as long as the track is on the MD either. 2. The US version comes with a non-LCD remote. 3. Planet Minidisc? Bluetin?
  18. You cannot be in record to change the record mode. It's weird, I know. In order to change record mode, do not first put it in record pause. Took me a few tries on my RH10 to figure that one. But, in order to change recording to manual you do have to be in record pause. Go figure. M
  19. I haven't been able to get my RH10 to do that on playback. I don't think it will.

    Rh710 Vs. Dh710

That's the way I see it. Looks like our friends from the North will be helping me out again. Really like that Minidisc Canada site. Hopefully, by the end of the summer, the RH710 will be in my collection. Gonna keep the MZ-S1 "tank" for the gym and yard work use, the RH10 solely for live recording and the RH710 to supplement the RH10 and for on the road/work. Nice to be able to do 92 min of PCM on the RH10 and then switch the source over to the RH710 without missing a beat. Then I won't have to do any Hi-SP recording for important concerts, etc. BTW, off to see Widespread Panic for the 50thplus time tonight in Columbia. Yeehaw!!!
  21. I think he was asking about the RH10. I can speak for that model being an excellent choice but it only records in HiMD and PCM. There is no MD recording on these units. But, then again, you can't USB upload those formats with Sonic Stage. The visual display on the RH10 when recording levels are going is almost essential for live recording. The 6 line display in the OLED glow makes it a great live recording Hi-MD. I have recorded 4 live rock/jazz shows and I have been pleased with the ease and the sound quality is no different than my old NH900. Give the RH10 a look...
  22. Look at this page on Minidisc Canada, looks like the beloved NH900 might be in stock... http://www.minidisc-canada.com/shopexd.asp?id=339

    Rh710 Vs. Dh710

Also, see this page on Minidisco.com They even have the URL showing RH710 but the unit and the specs list DH710. Note the unit in the picture has NO REC button but a download button shown... http://www.minidisco.com/mz-rh710.html Now, look at this one from Minidisc Canada... http://www.minidisc-canada.com/shopexd.asp?id=515 Note, the RECORD button where the other has a download button and you can see the white line input port on the side.
  24. Has anyone else noticed the differences between the DH710 and the RH710 on the net? I have noted that the pictures and specs with the DH710 do NOT list a line in and the pictures show the word "download" instead of the red "record". I think the DH710 will be in the US and the RH710 for Canada and Europe. Anybody know anything different? I see Minidisc-Canada is offering the RH710 for $152USD with a May shipping expectation. I think I may put some money away for that to supplement my RH10.
  25. It does the same (delete files previously uploaded without warning) in 3.0, only faster :-)
