sadly there's no solution for you you will have to re-rip all the music into sonicstage. this could have been avoided if you'd run the sonicstage backup tool, but with a crash you wernt to know that. the graet news is sonicstage 3.2 has the option to rip music to atrac without the DRM key that makes music only work on the one computer, so baking up to an external disk is both easy & posible. btw i think this is more fitting to continue in the software/support forum...

i'd rerecord them from the cds via sonicstage 3.2 as first choice http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=11311

so are you trying to moves songs from the md to the pc to the hd1? md-> computer ->hd1 if so it wont work like that. if you still have the original cds then reimport into sonicstage, sadly pre himd minidiscs are a one way device, the only way to get songs OFF the md is to play them in real time or use the 3rd party software winMD
-
it is the english version. on my machine it didn't install connect but as i had a previous connect store [us] on there is still comes up. as with most things sonicstage your mileage may vary
-
what sort of cd drive do you have? how about aspi drivers? can you access an xp native machine to do a comparative test on?
-
point is a HiMD is required to record in PCM
-
very much so. using sonicstage or marcnets rendering software you can upload the recordings as a wav then move them back to the mac over a network, via the ums on a himd or flash drive, whatever.
-
the new sonicstage 3.2 can give you atrac3+ in many extra bitrates, sadly these wil not transfer to himd units only flash, hdd nws & vaio pockets. gen2 himd gets 48&64 hilp, 105&132 lp2 [atrac3],
-
you are going to have to do it through the line out/headphone out. if you access to a pc that you can install sonicstage 3.2 on it can be done quicker but with the mac real time recording is the only option. turn off any eq & put the sound right up, this will simulate line out. then playback through the line in to your sound recorder.

happy birthday to the sarcastic new zealander, me. haven't seen him round much lately, i'm sure he'll read this eventually.

thanks for the explanation DB but we can't allow the discussion of music piracy on these forums. hope you'll stick around to discuss other topics. as this topic is concluded i will be locking it.
-
what was the problem then? please tell us so we can consider it next time someone has a similar problem.
-
correct
-
what's the details of the files? kbs? khz? have you tried converting them to another format?
-
you never struck me as a man of temper KJ, all these unannounced passions build up to a sort of md shot put?
-
have to agree, if you're recording in 256kbs sans drm via ss3.2 you not only get a very high quality codec, done way faster than realtime pretitled in digital. the dif. between optical hardware conversion & software conversion at that point should be minimal at most.
-
if you don't finalise the cd you leave the disc open. sadly this usually means you can only add more files on that computer. it should be able to be accessed again when you get back to work

he might not be able to hear you KJ but he sure can handle a needle...
-
make sure the files are 44khz. perhaps try to burn an audio cd with nero or something & reimport, just to make sure it's not SS.
-
didn't work for me either onone pc, fine on the other one.

i'm going to close this thread. please reopen it at our new atrac/hdd related site http://www.atraclife.com
