ineed, great post Bananatree! almost half of my posts up until now have been pointers towards previous posts that address the same questions and/or pleas not to double post or start four different new topics on these already asked/answered questions... so I'm all won for clear stickies and in-your-face-obvious FAQ's Greetings, (slightly annoyed) Volta

well, as I said, I only use it for "emergencies" and particularly long recordings, so I would hardly say "always"... yes, it would seem pretty bad if you would always use this method, though a good few rounds of full charge/decharge can "repair" a lot of the "damage" ah yes, and as I have upgraded my gumstick battery to a 1450 mAh GP-stick, I carry the fully charged Sony one with me when going on a longer trip biggest issue is that, as there simply are no other brands producing Hi-MD players, one has to choose the Sony model with the best battery options (IMHO the NH900 or the RH10) or just live with all the pre-Hi-MD drawbacks (no uploading, no 1gig discs and extra space on 80min discs,...) greetings, Volta

I forgot where exactly I read this, but binaural is indeed just a way of mic placement and directing both elements more towards the soundsource (but separated a bit) does not give the same spatial soundpicture as binaural when played back through headphones, but a clean stereosound especially suited for playback through speakers (which is actually what I intend) but believe me, once I get these little beauties, I WILL experiment with binaural AND stereo setups! I'm very interested in hearing true binaural recordings, especially after your convincing words in some other threads, greenmachine. greetings, Volta

have you tried uninstalling exactly as described here? then there should be no more reference to SS anymore...none whatsoever. Once you have done that, directly install 3.1 (no earlier versions first) try this first... (you could also check whether you have 'ffdshow' installed, other codecpacks, nvidia drivers,...) greetings, Volta ps: I'm not pestering you with my questions, I'm just trying to get as much info as possible. I'm no software expert, just sometimes I gt reminded of another thread which mentions the same specs/problems...but anyway, the real software experts do appreciate all the info you can give, as it makes they're 'job' a bit easier...
-
Welcome Bluetyler, very good, if only you had also posted your system specs as stated in the 'rules for support' then ppl could really try to help you have you done a complete removal and reinstal of SS as stated in the pinned threads? please try that and post all specs greetings, Volta

nh900 can record realtime in real SP and download fake SP through SS or SB
-
yes: frequency range, signal to noise,... all seem ok maybe not: 105dB max SPL (the loudest sound you can record without clipping) is a bit low for louder music, so a battery box would be useful (allows 120dB) definitely not: - it is a single point stereo (or close to that at least) which means that the mic elements are very close together... this won't be giving a good stereo sound... look more for somethig that allows to separate the mics a bit (like these) - it plugs directly into the recorder, this will pick up machine noise, which would especially be annoying when recording speech, so look for an extension cord or get mics with a longer cord (like the ones above) so, I do not think these are ideal... you're in Italy, so if you want something really good and you could spend a bit of money check out this manufacturer... he sells in the EU, without import costs ... you really would get your money's worth

hm, don't know what version of SonicStage you are currently using, but I do hope you have upgraded from the version supplied on the disc (2.0 I believe)... definitely upgrade to SS2.3 at least (as all versions prior to this are unstable and are known to trash recordings) if you can (but always make sure you back-up your music library first, using the SS-back-up tool) upgrade to SS3.1 (available from Connect or here on MDCF) as it is even more stable and has the wav-converter built in...so you can automatically save as wav when uploading recordings greetings, Volta

happy b-day JyriK (dunno if you're still around though...thanks again for the ffdshow hint) greetings, Volta

search these forums a bit, the "SS not recognizing my Hi-MD"-problem has been addressed a lot (not always succesfully though)... the first thing to ask: does windows explorer see it as an external drive? the first thing to try (if the above question is answered yes at least) try rebooting, open SS first, then connect your Hi-MD good luck, Volta
-
well, seems to me you've got most of it correct, not all (but I know very little about pre-Hi-MD models so not sure about that part) they will play back older MD-modes too and can download them through SS (only fake SP though) couldn't agree more "not possible" is way too harsh... "not as clear/good" or "not as easy" is better, as you can still connect through the headphone out, turn off all eq'ing and raise volume to max with the line-out lacking models dude, now I'm jealous! I've got a NH900 and...nope, that's it and I haven't got any money left greetings, Volta

but that doesn't explain and even contradicts the lack of equalizer when using MP3 on a HD5 (see my post above)

well see this sentence in my previous post: the "if it could be fair" actually implies that I don't believe it can...exactly for the same reasons as you state above Breepee2... yes, as long as they won't find some DRM-method that only and only prevents illegal copying but allows ALL the rest without any creative workarounds necessary or any risk of losing our own property (which they never will IMHO)... you are absolutely right!
-
please read and follow the rules for posting (top of the page when you go to the 'Software/FAQ's'-section of the forum, marked in pink/red)... as right now your description is way to vague to get any useful response greetings, Volta

corduroy, where are you from? If you are living in N-Am/Canada check out the Sound Professionals or Core Sound, (or minidisco or reactive sounds)... if you're in Europe, have a look at Soundman! These manufacturers/e-sellers all sell very good mics, some especially intended for music, some for speech, some that can do a bit of both... If you are living anywhere else, you will have to import (unless Soundman has dealers near you, check the site) so just choose what suits your needs and make sure you know how much importing will cost extra... greetings, Volta

try this guy don't know if it's gone already, he's getting PM's...but worth finding out greetings, Volta

DRM has in my opinion never stopped one person from copying stuff...it just made them more inventive/persistant! I wouldn't mind DRM if it could be fair... Not entirely on subject, but nevertheless an example of what I mean. I don't copy/download anything illegally, but I worked in a bar till recently and didn't want to ruin my precious CD's by letting them be abused by the other personel so I spent a lot of time/money (even though 1 CDR's is very cheap, 200 aren't) just to find out that the very expensive/semi-professional bleeping CD'player wouldn't take anything that wasn't an 'original' CD...even though I had made only personal coppies, for obvious reasons and we did pay our tax for playing music in a public place (SABAM in Belgium)... well, I gave all the doubles away (alert!, illegal sharing of music..."well sorry officer, the anti-copy stuff made me do it!") to friends and classmates (why would I need doubles myself if I can't play them where I need them, and no, I won't keep the doubles at home and let the 'originals' be smudged in a student/livemusic-bar). And one other thing...the DRM Sony slaps on MY OWN RECORDINGS isn't justifiable, isn't correct, isn't legal, hell it's outright theft! I make a recording of MY own voice in an interview by ME of someone who has agreed to be interviewed by ME and that I will use the information he/she gives in MY Masters Thesis... then why oh why should Sony at any time think that THEY own the copyright to the recording? Yes I know about the "convert to wav, lose all DRM-crap, reimport to SS, download to MD" way. I'm not saying that there isn't a way around things, I'm just saying there shouldn't have to be such a way... So if they start implementing this brainless all-ppl-are-criminals-and-the-ones-that-are-not-could-be DRM protection method in other sectors like computer chips, they will only push me one step closer to reverting to the pen&paper days... sorry for my ranting...greetings, Volta PS: also a bit off topic, but sometimes one hears good news, just as one starts to feel down, so I wanted to share the fun also: "Microsift has been ordered by the EU to remove the coupled WMP from the basic setup of windows... as that is corupting free competition, if they don't, they have to pay a rediculous amount of money each day!" hurray, if only they would take M to court over the IE/outlook express junk or the unused windows messenger liability and any other monopolistic or outright unsafe part of windows...that would make my day!

Happy birthday to Sonyslave (ouch, what a name) glad to see some ppl here are not teenagers

ah that explains a lot, I do know where that one is thanks A440, you really know everything

check this thread... greetings, Volta

you'd think so, but then why wouldn't they include an equalizer that also works for MP3 on the HD5? as stated here (go to 'View all specs'): and Sony's still advertising Atrac3+ @64bps as better than MP3 @132bps... so I wouldn't be surprised at all if it definitely was intended (just not intended to be discovered ) Greetings, Volta PS: also note the Sony advertising-crap like "only 125g" and in the specifications "130g"...5g is no big deal, the fact that they lie about it is

not exactly what you asked, but I use the Sennheiser MX450's, they are very reasonably priced ($15), sound quite good and have a 1m cable... just store the cable between the recorder and the remote in the MD-pouch, clip the remote to your pouch or belt and voila, works like a charm... greetings, Volta

this 'browser' tab gets mentioned quite often in 'find your minidisc'-threads... I was just wondering, am I going blind or haven't I got a browser tab?
