Of course it is lol , but it will sound like crap. I get approx. 15-20 hours from NW-E407 and that's using good quality bit rates in both atrac and mp3 codecs.
-
I see you are from the UK. I would imagine the volume is crippled being a European model? Also, there will probably be no volume hack as has always been the case with the flash players.
-
Lovely looking piece of kit! Do you know if the docking station comes supplied with the rest of the accesories? No doubt the european models volume will be extremley low as per usual.
-
I don't think you will get 9 hours from your A1000 especially at 256 kbps, you may get approx. 6 hours. Would it be possible to use your pc to supply the music?
-
I'm getting approx. 5 hours from my A1200. Thats atrac3plus at 256kbps and some mp3's at variable bit rates.

I think what Stuge means is wait around and see what new players Sony releases this autumn/fall. The A1000 has now been discontinued, but there is an A1200 which has replaced it. Basically it is the same as the A1000 but with an extra 2 gigs. Sound quality is good. You could go for the A3000 which is the 20 gig model. Personally if I were you and 1 or 2 gigs is enough, I would go for an NW-A608 which would give you 2 gigs plus an fm tuner. I think it may have been discontinued, but there should still be some about. There are also the newer flash based players, but some people seem to have an issue with the volume. I have an e407, it's not too loud but with the supplied ear phones it's not too bad. I would imagine the NW-A608 would be the same.

The E series players use flash memory. The benefits of this are no moving parts unlike the A series. Also no waiting around for the player to start up. The downside is capacity, at present Sony only does a maximum of 2 gigs on the flash players. With the A series you have a larger capacity, up to 20 gigs. The volume can be unlocked if your player is a european model. You can't unlock the volume on the flash players. You also get a graphic equalizer. On the downside it uses a hard drive that will one day eventually fail. I Hope this helps.

I'm not too sure about your model but quite a few sony models support mp3 file manager. If you have some mp3 files you can download this program onto your player, not your pc and it will allow you to drag and drop mp3 files onto your player. Even without usb 2.0 it is quite quick.

Hi Blur5e and welcome to Atraclife! I would charge it for approx. 3-4 hours to begin with and a 3 min charge will give you 3 hours of playback. Obviously you want a happy medium when it comes to putting the music on your player, a compromise between quality and not using up too much space. Personally I wouldn't record at 48 or 64 kbps as the quality at that level isn't too great, but I wouldn't record at 256 kbps or above either as you would use up too much space on your device. Go for something in between. Does it support USB 2.0? if not that may be the reason why it is too slow. Also your pc may not support USB 2.0. Good luck with your new purchase and enjoy!

WE STRONGLY WANT SERVICE MANUAL FOR NW-W00X
markey replied to mariposa_traicionera's question in Audio
I very much doubt that you are going to find a volume hack for these models as there was never a hack for previous flash based players. Only the hard drive ones are able to be hacked. -
Please let us know what you find regarding battery life, and good luck with the assignments.
-
How are you finding battery life? Great pics by the way.
-
There should be a reset button somewhere on the unit, they all have them. It's a very small hole that only a pin or paperclip can be inserted into. Someone with a hd3 should be able to reply very soon if you haven't found it by then.
-
Hi yazuka and welcome to Atraclife. Have you tried the reset button on the unit?
-
Sorry Stuge, when you said "(till now)" I thought you were having second thoughts about the player. The reason I ask about sound quality is because when listening to my A1200 through a pair of EX71's the sound can become rather distorted, something I don't get when listening through same pair of earphones when using my HD5. Also when using the stock phones on my E407, that sounds better than the A1200 through same pair of stock phones. Maybe it's just me. A really decent set of phones is probably whats needed. I Dont think much of the battery life either. I have probably been spoiled by battery life of the HD5 and E407
-
What are you not happy with concerning this model? Also what do you think of sound quality compared to say HD5 and smaller sony flash players?

I have also been unable to access the forum over the last couple of weeks. When i go into the forum and say look at a posting it shuts my aol down. This only ever happens on atraclife, no other websites have this effect. Although over the last couple of days it has been fine. The funny thing is it only happens on my home pc, not my work pc.
-
Good idea Stuge! have been a bit busy (lazy) of late. I put it on here a little while ago and forgot about it.
-
No, not as yet. If interested please PM me.

Hi gjkendall, you won't be able to retrieve your files from your atrac device I'm afraid. I think there is an option in SS to scan your pc for atrac/mp3 files etc. You could try that to retrieve your files. Although if you have freed up 20 gigs worth of space I very much doubt if this will work.
-
I had the same problem with an A1000, but as it was only 1 month old I got a full refund. As yours is 6 months old you should at least get a repair. Your player is unable to access the information on your hard disc. If you put the player up to your ear you should hear the hard disc spinning. One of the down sides to hard disc players I'm afraid.

I thought I would offer this to you guys first before I put it on ebay. My beloved good as new NW-HD5 (black). When I say as good as new I mean it doesn't have a mark or scratch on it. Hardly ever used as a portable unit, spent most of it's life hooked up to my hifi. Comes complete with box, earphones, usb cable, mains charger (UK type), pouch and proof of purchase. Using my 8 gig NW-A1200 as comparison for size of unit. Sorry for the poor quality of the photos, my camera is now rather ancient. Volume hack has been applied. Selling from the UK so price may seem a liitle on the expensive side for those of you outside the UK. £120.00 GBP + post and package. May seem a little pricey but as I said, as near to new as you could ever expect and hardly ever used. Will put on ebay in a couple of days.

You should be able to find it on Sony's website under customer support I think. You should find the manuals for all products there. When you say you have lost the manual, do you mean the cd rom that came with it when you bought it?
-
Hi LittleGhost, I think you will find it is a true line out. When you plug the phones in while in line out mode there is no sound and the eq functions shouldn't work either if you try and go into that function . If I am correct, the benefit of the line out function is to produce an untainted reproduction at an optimal level so as to adjust the volume, bass and treble settings through your amp. I hope this helps.

Yeah I think your right there, it was a sale he was interested in. No idea what case it was as I never bothered asking. All I was interested in was a new walkman. It would have been the cheapest I suppose.
