I used the charger that came with my A1200, the AC-S508U on my NW-S706F yesterday. After leaving it on charge for approx. 30 minutes, I found that the S706 had become extremely hot. It's working fine but I am worried it may have damaged the battery. Now the charger supplied with the NW-A608 is the AC-U50A not the AC-S508U. The difference being the output on the A608's charger is DC5V 500mA, and the charger supplied with the A1200 has an output of DC5V 800mA. So when I charged the S706 using the A1200 charger I had 300mA more going through it than I should have done. The charger that came with the A608 is the same one recommended for the NW-S7XX range. If anyone technically minded reads this please advise as I don't think this combination of player and charger should be used. I hope this post makes sense lol.

Hi DSP If you put the unit to your ear can you hear the hard disc spinning? If so the hd has failed. I had the same problem with the first NW-A1000 I bought the wife. The guy in the Sony Centre said it had broke and I got a full refund. Sounds like the same problem because her one froze on the ''good music, good day'' screen too.

Personally I prefer the sound of atrac to mp3. It would have been best to leave your music in mp3 format because all you have done is taken music that is already compressed and compressed it even more so. I would recommend you leave your mp3's as they are and only rip your cd's in atrac.

Yeah, I know what your talking about. It's not the rubber part that goes in to your ears, it's the small rubber ring on the largest part of the bud. Should be able to get them under warranty although I don't think they do much for noise insulation. My ones are starting to split to, and they never stay on. You have to push them back on everytime you use them.

I can assure you, you won't have a problem with the volume on the NW-S6xx & S7xx models.
-
Cheers Bueller, that explains a lot. My NW-S706 is twice as loud as my NW-E407.
-
It probably is capped but to me it sounds louder and better than my uncapped HD5 and A1200.

Happy birthday CookieMonster, many happy returns!!!

Personally I think the reason why the nw-8xx series doesn't have a remote jack is because it's not as bulky as the old hard disc models which you would tuck away in a jacket pocket or bag. Being roughly the size of a nano I would find no need for a remote. I agree with Ascariss concerning the material used on the NW-8xx. It looks exactly the same as the A1000/A3000, but I don't think it's metal either. It looks like some sort of coated plastic. I would take a guess thet the European NW-7xx series is not capped. Reason being I have compared my NW-S706F to both my HD5 and A1200, both have had the cap removed. The NW_S706F is louder. Not just using the supplied MDR-NC022 earphones, but also using Sennheiser PX100's, MDR-EX71SL's and the supplied phones that came with the A1200.

By the time your battery is totally dead you will probably be looking for a new player, so why worry? Just enjoy the player while you have it.

That's nice. You could have translated it in to English for us. lol. only joking!

Hi and welcome to Atrac Life. Use mp3 file manager, it can be downloaded on to your player from this site or the Sony one. Or just install Sonicstage, it's not that bad.

UK prices are as follows, £119.99 (2gb); £149.99 (4gb) and £199.99 (8gb). No noise cancellation on this one, though the earphones are good. Think I'll stick with my NW-S706 for now.

Have you tried the reset button on the back of the unit?
-
smart move.

How many songs do you have on the device? I have heard that the more you put on it the slower it gets. I would advise you to upgrade connect player to the latest version of sonicstage, 4.2 or 4.3. You can download it from this site, under the downloads section or from the Sony website. As for all the music stored on your player, all i can suggest is that you put it all back on your player. Hopefully you still have it all in your library.

did you sell it or are you keeping it?

Cheers guys, much appreciated! Hey navsimpson, I bet you have youth on your side though? Have a great day.
-
That's great. Thanks Stuge just thought I would make sure.
-
Hi Stuge Just to make sure, do you think it's ok to use the NW-A1000 supplied charger with NW-S7xxx range?
-
If you can get hold of the mains adaptor that comes with the NW-A3000/A1000/A1200/A608 that should work fine. It comes in 3 parts, the lead that plugs in to your wall socket, the adaptor and then uses your existing usb cable. Try ebay, I have seen them on there many a time. You could allways be cheeky and ask a nurse if she wouldn't mind pluging it in to a hospital computer.

The 3.5 inch floppy drive that you now see on PCs was introduced by Sony in 1980, and the compact disc a collaboration between Sony and Phillips. I think Sony pretty much leads the way.

Zizone's NW-S706F/Black Review (edit: 2007/2/22)
markey replied to Zizone_'s topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Hi madleet3 I haven't tried it as yet just going by the instructions, but it does say that each track can be tagged manually in sonicstage. -
Hi Stuge, yes I have decided against this as not knowing how the plastic on the player would react. It is only a hairline scratch, you can't even feel it when you rub your finger across it and can only be seen under a good light. I shall however keep a look out for a replacement cover and whether or not it is easy to remove.
-
Sure will, just working up the courage to try it. I'm worried I will make it worse.
