  1. If you are using 1GB Hi-MDs and the sermon isn't going to last longer than 94 minutes, use PCM, otherwise Hi-SP should be sufficient. Even with the supplied low capacity rechargeable (700mAH?), you should be able to record well over 2 hours in PCM, assuming it is fully charged and in good condition. An alkaline or a higher capacity ni-mh will last even longer. If you don't feel confidet with using manual level setting yet (speech can have unpredicable dynamic peaks), use the default automatic gain setting. If this doesn't provide satisfactory results, start getting usetd to using manual levels.
  2. About the modes: Hi-SP = 256kbps Hi-LP = 64kbps (4x smaller files, but potentially lower fidelity) Never heard of low-sp before. About the shuffle issue: Pess the navi/menu button for less than one second and select normal instead of group. It will shoffle through the whole disc, ignoring groups completely. edit: volta was faster
  3. If there is no information in the (service) manual about resetting the remote, try disconnecting the remote and removing the battery from the recorder for at least one minute, then try again. If this doesn't help, the remote propably has some kind of internal capacitor/battery, which needs to be discharged/temporarily disconnected. Try disconnecting the remote for a day or more. If this doesn't help, it propably needs to be disassembled/repaired by someone with experience.
  4. The recorder tries to detect silence between songs. If it is too short or not quiet enough, it might miss them. Try to set your audio player to insert gaps of ~2sec. manually between songs. Also don't set the levels of the recorder too high.
  5. Only on Hi-MD generation no.1 mp3s need to be transcoded to atrac to be playable. It depends on the quality/bitrate of the mp3 to which atrac bitrate i would transcode it to if necessary. Without transcoding i use ~190kbps vbr mp3s and Hi-SP most of the time, best quality/size ratio for me. Edit: Forgot to answer your question. If you transcode 128kbps mp3 to HiSP, you will hardly lose quality, but lots of space. If you transcode to LP2 (132kbps atrac3), you might lose some quality, but hardly any space. Have you considered 192kbps and/or re-ripping directly to atrac? Atrac3+ @ 128/320kbps are currently not possible on Hi-MD.
  6. Sony's Hi-MD units have very nice adc/dac/preamp quality and offer many advantages over NetMD, such as upload, pcm recording and larger discs.
  7. Have you tried moving the mic closer to (and directing it towards) the source? If this doesn't offer enough rejection, you'll propably need a highly directional shotgun mic.
  8. Keep in mind that it has not been recorded from "real" instruments directly, but from a stack of PA speakers, propably indoors (small rooms amplify low frequencies, room resonance in the audible range). If these didn't sound too great, the recording won't either. Listen to the applause, lots of high frequencies. Also, the sound mixer guys seem to like bass heavy mixes these days. If you have used the default flash player on the archive.org site, you have listened to a 64kbps mp3 stream, which is meant for preview only, not for serious listening. Also you can listen to my albums in the gallery, lots of samples, mostly unamplified music in large rooms: Album1 --- Album2
  9. I've recorded my first show with a higly sensitive mic, plugged into the mic-in jack, mic sensitivity set to high. It was a really loud and bassy show. Got approx. 5% music and 95% distortion, the music was hardly audible. Then i've read about attenuators here at mdcf and the recording improved to approx. 70% music and 30% distortion. Having built my first battery box (also read about it here first) was the best thing to do for quite some time, the distortion was virtually gone and i could finally enjoy the music. Too bad my first recording was a pretty important one for me.
  10. From what i have read, the lifespan of current oleds seems to be approximately 10,000 hours, which translates to roughly 14 years with an average of 2 hours per day use. Do you use it more than that?
  11. If it works the same as the NH700's EQ, it consists of six bands, four presets and two custom settings. The bands are 100Hz, 250Hz, 630Hz, 1.6kHz, 4kHz and 10kHz. Each band can be lowered or raised by three steps, making a total of seven (-3/-2/-1/0/+1/+2/+3). The presets look like that: Heavy (+1/0/-1/0/+1/0) Pops - (-1/0/+1/0/-1/0) Jazz - (+2/0/0/-2/0/+1) Unique (+2/-1/0/0/-1/+2) Custom1 Custom2 Here's a little insight to the EQ's behavior. To gain bass, you basically need to lower the other bands: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=13741
  12. India has some fascinating landscapes and architecture, most of it looking rather foreign to me, thank you for this little insight into your country.
  13. NetMD cannot upload, but you can copy in realtime via analogue out/input: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=7070
  14. Sorry to say, but if you read the first post, it looks like the unit has been sold on february, the 15th or earlier.
  15. Very nice, thanks for sharing. They're pretty hard to find in the gallery (not your fault), so here's a direct link: >>link<<
  16. Indeed, i like their simplistic yet effective style.
  17. Good idea. The hold switch is a must during a recording with the recorder in a pocket.
  18. Thanks for sharing - I like it. How about uploading it to the archive or similar places to get more attention?
  19. Is the crackling there before editing? If so, you might have set the levels on the recorder too high or the mic can't handle the loudness. If it appears after editing, make sure you never push the levels above the 0dB line. Also, what does 'battery box (fixed)' mean? Have you been using a defective BB with your mics? If so, it might have damaged them.
  20. Are you trying to play either LP2/4 or HiMD formatted tracks in a SP only compatible machine? SP should always be recorded in realtime for best quality.
  21. Sharing your recordings with us is highly appreciated. You can upload to the gallery of this forum. Wav files are usually too large, but a high bitrate mp3 doesn't sound much worse and saves a lot of space/bandwidth. Glad your recorder is working ok.
  22. You can use standard MDs, but capacity will be less than 1/3 of 1GB Hi-MDs. Might be an issue for PCM recording (<30 vs. >90 minutes).
  23. Transfer as mp3 and use the eq to compensate for the lack of treble. Transcoding is bad.
  24. These seem larger and technically inferior. I'd suggest to get some Panasonic WM-61A capsules from digikey instead if you are in the US: http://www.digikey.com/scripts/DkSearch/dk...626&Site=US
