How to build a Stereo Microphone and Battery Box
greenmachine replied to greenmachine's topic in Live Recording
Sorry for the delay. PM me or send an email directly to [attachmentid=1635] and I'm sure we'll find a satisfying solution. Shipping costs are low. My pricing isn't fixed. As long as you are happy, i'm happy as well. -
Set it to "flat" and do the editing afterwards via software if necessary. Use the line-in if it will be loud / bass heavy. Manually set levels will give you best results. Don't worry if you don't get it 100% right the first time, practice makes perfect. Good luck.

If you don't have an audio editor yet, you might want to try Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

Optical devices don't work like cassette magnetic heads - there's no friction between pickup and medium. As long as you're not a heavy smoker or spill some fluid over it, it shouldn't get dirty by itself. Dust can be blown away.

[attachmentid=1627] You could attach them to the rim of glasses, close to your ears. Soundquality-wise, they're in a very good position there. You can fix them with tape, heat shrink tube or the like.

a musician requires some serious help (please...)

Can't you get a true mono signal out of any stereo microphone if you don't mix both channels, but extract one channel only? -
Maybe the difference is listening via headphones vs. listening via loudspeakers. Good headphones can be much more revealing. Personnally, i use my MDS-JE500 deck from time to time to play some old SP recordings, which i don't have in any other form.

There's an option in your control panel to disable receiving emails from the administration. You might have checked that. I agree with Justin42, but it must be hard to admit indeed.

Ignore it. We're currently going through a hack attack.

Having used IE without updates before, my 'puter has been attacked by simply clicking a link in these forums. After having it cleaned (i hope so), i have to run a more secure browser now. I hope everyone ignores the spam mail.

Why not do a full test recording (record a disc from beginning to end in PCM mode) before that gig and see if there are any issues? I guess nobody else can tell for sure if it's been damaged. You'll have to see for yourself.

I have set my laptop's screen to minimum brightness, so that i can stand even the brightest skins like this one. If you can't change the world, change yourself.

If you don't want to spend all that money or invest more in external gear, you could get a NH700 or NHF800 instead for a much better price. Recording quality shouldn't be any worse with these. They have the advantage of using AA batteries.
-
SP mode will give you very good quality, but recording time will be limited to 80 minutes per disc and PC transfer will be problematic.
-
Any Pre-Net-MD, Net-MD or Hi-MD will play SP recordings.
-
Don't know if there's such a unit, but any Hi-MD with a 1GB disc can record up to 8 hours in very high quality Hi-SP mode or 34 hours in not so great but often acceptable quality Hi-LP mode (or as long as the battery lasts). You could leave it running the whole night through and cut parts afterwards if necessary. An AA battery powered unit should be able to record in one of the mentioned modes for at least 10 hours (often more, depending on the battery type) with a single battery.
-
SP in an older unit vs. SP or Hi-SP in a more recent unit should both be virtually transparent (very good). Other modes like LP2, LP4 or Hi-SP just add more compression, which isn't exactly beneficial for sound quality. The main difference is in quanitity: 80 minutes in SP on standard discs vs. almost 8 hours in Hi-SP on 1GB discs.

If you don't care about faster than realtime USB transfer, extended disc capacity, extended battery life, recording functionality or numerous other minor improvements, there's propably no reason for you to upgrade.
-
For bass and treble enhancement, try the EQ setting (0 -1 -1 -1 -1 0) or (-1 -2 -2 -2 -2 -1). Also you might want to consider getting good headphones which don't require much EQ adjustment. I hardly ever use the EQ and am satisfied with the sound. The headphones make all the difference.
-
Try lowering every band for one or two notches with exception of the 100Hz band. Overall loudness will be slightly lower, but with enhanced low frequency response.

Is ATRAC3(plus) worth testing @128 kbit/s ?
greenmachine replied to Serge Smirnoff's topic in Software
A3+ 128kbps could be much more useful if it was possible to use with Hi-MD. Maybe in the next Sonicstage release. I'm not sure is there would be a significant improvement to LP2 though. -
