well here is the thing, someone would have to buy both models, open them up and compare the internals to see if they are exactly the same
-
I think it's the vbr file, it happens on my A1000 as well.
-
make sure with music, the player isn't re encoding into atrac. indeed shame that it takes so long to convert, hopefully once more people use the walkmans, new codecs will be added using custom firmware.

sony canada is not getting the 8 gig nwz model, no further shipments are planned of any new player in the short term.

Checking the sonystyle.ca website shows no more 8 gig A8xx series on the site anywhere, no out of stock nothing. there was no mention of any a8xx 8 gig model for the canadian market in the sony press release, so I emailed sony canada. I got an email back stating so and so is out of the office until whatever. Still no reply and I emailed them last tuesday. I briefly asked in the email why no 8 gig a800 series was being offered in canada, whereas the US gets all the new models so far. I also asked why sony canada had all the other models before the US, like A1000, A3000, S700 etc. and the US did not and now a change of procedure? I finished off my email by stating that the pricing in canada is also uneven when compared to US market and that I could easily go and buy an open sourced 8 gig A8xx from the US at the same price point as a 4 gig A8xx in Canada. If I get no reply by wednesday, I will send it once more and then leave it be, and buy the player in the US and leave my money down there than in Canada.

I am sure since the new sony's are open platform, people could easily make new firmware and new programs to move stuff over.

Sony WILL Release WMP update for older Walkmans!
Ascariss replied to veggiemusician's question in Audio
the new 8 gig a8xx is not at sonystyle, according to the sony canada press release it doesn't look like it will be sold here Pricing and Availability The NWZ-S610 series of Walkman music players come in three different capacities and four colors: The NWZ-S615F player has a total capacity of 2GB; comes in black; pink; and silver and costs about $140. The NWZ-S616F player has a total capacity of 4GB; comes in black; pink; silver and red and costs about $180. – The red model is exclusive to the Sony store and www.sonystyle.ca The NWZ-S618F player has a total capacity of 8GB; comes in black and silver and costs about $250. The NWZ-A810 series of Walkman music players come in two different capacities and three colours: The NWZ-A815 player has a total capacity of 2GB; comes in black and costs about $170. The NWZ-A816 player has a total capacity of 4GB; comes in black; silver and pink and costs about $200. The NWZ-A810 series will be available exclusively online at www.sonystyle.ca and at Sony stores across Canada later this Fall The NWZ-B100 series of Walkman music players come in 2GB capacity and three colors: black; white; and violet and costs about $100 The Walkman NWZ-S610 series and NWZ-B100 series will be available in September online at www.sonystyle.ca, and across the country at the Sony store retail stores, and authorized dealers. looks like I will have to wait for my new mp3 player purchase, either wait for the new 900 series to be sold here or eventually buy the 8 gig model from the US. In addition it is not worth buying an mp3 player in canada anymore, with our dollar even with the US dollar, it would be smarter to hope accross the border and buy an 8 gig a series for the same price as the 4 gig up here. smooth move sony canada, really helping out the customer with choice. -
it is similar a bit. but the design seems to be influenced by the walkman phone and the new 600 series.
-
well looks like alpha III has arrived. it plays atrac since it has no Z in the name. question is, will it make it to the rest of the world.
-
not in areas were atrac is not supported, na and europe.
-
what about playlists from windows media player?
-
Similar thing at sontstyle canada but we still don't have the 8 gig model. 4 gig 81x is 199.99 compare that to the old A8xx 4 gig which was 229.99, so a 30 dollar difference. 2 gig didn't seem to change, both new and old versions are 169.99, although new 2 gig a81x is still not in stock assuming the 8 gig drops by the same ammount, that would mean 269.99 CAN. the 600 series seems to be the competitor for the ipod nano here, 4 gig sony 10 dollars cheaper, anx 8 gig sony the same price, at 219.99.
-
assuming the info I have is still current, then it will be a while before sony shows off anything, or if a debut occurs, sales won't start anytime soon, this isn't apple we are talking about here.
-
hmm indeed a 500 series, no wonder it said photo mp3 player O_o
-
Ok I think you misunderstood the sites, the new video walkman from the sites mentioned is the 600 and revamped 800 series. https://www.sonystyle.co.uk/SonyStyle/b2c/d...002BC29B85)/.do weird enough it mentions the 600 series as a photo walkman, https://www.sonystyle.co.uk/SonyStyle/b2c/d...002BC29B85)/.do revamped 800 series here. not sure why amazon.co.uk is charging so much for the 8 gig version when it is only 132 pounds on sony's site. anyways, I think you meant these players. My previous statement still stands though.
-
read again, i am not referring to the current walkmans.
-
ok this is becoming more interesting by the day. I naturally assumed the older players that were just re-released were the new units, but I guess I was wrong. the new S series which we got, the 600 and 700 debuted when they were supposed to, and now a new unit is due, but the date doesn't match the date specified, maybe sony is bringing it closer to debut because of the itouch? also has the same capacities as the itouch incidently.

Sony WILL Release WMP update for older Walkmans!
Ascariss replied to veggiemusician's question in Audio
I told you guys, someone mentioned this on another forum, and if only a firmware upgrade was needed, no new units would have been released. -
wouldn't it be for japan only? and can those versions be used elsewhere?
-
hmm I was wondering when this was coming. weird thing is, sony still have something coming with 16 gb, so wonder when that will appear. :/
-
same thing happened with the A3000, I got the difference refunded.
-
some companies used to be on top, now others are as well, it occurs in all industries. I personally don't want every tom, dick and harry to own a sony mp3 player, let the sheep masses feed on the apples
-
lol no, you misread, i meant the sony s600 models are cheaper than the 3rd gen nano. 2 and 4 gig version of the s600 are cheaper than older nano and new nano, and the 8 gig version of the s600 is the same price as the 3rd gen nano.
-
interesting that you mention that, the S6xx models in canada mimic the price of the new nano, with the 4 gig version being 10 dollars cheaper, and the 2 gig version being 20 dollars cheaper than the older nano. although the 2 and 4 gig version of the new 800 series are still more expensive. no word on 8 gig version though.
