I meant in canada, the price points for the 8 gig nano and 8 gig a808 were the same. the price points were identical to all apple products, 4 and 2 gig models.

Sony NW-A806 or A808 - Transferring songs back to the PC
Ascariss replied to cooliojames's question in Audio
here is an interesting tidbit, I hooked up my a1000 to my pc, and then browsed the device using windows explorer then went into the music directory, grabbed a random song, copied and pasted it to my desktop. mind you the file ending was .oma then I went on to send it to a person who doesn't have sonicstage or connect player and the file played on their pc although he didn't transfer it to any device, but it did play on his pc. -
the new sony's are drag and drop so I guess mp3s and aac should work fine on a mac no?
-
don't hold your breath.
-
can you compare the video quality to the a800?
-
Sony MZ-N10 Sony discman D-EJ925 Sony A1000 Sony A3000 I'll get photos up later.
-
ipods are not drag and drop, and the older nano was at the same price point as the current A800 series.
-
the headphones that come with the ipods are some of the worst I've seen and used.
-
it's coming in late september I believe, or early october.
-
I know there is stuff coming from sony, problem is, if these current devices were part of that original roadmap.
-
aac is supported on the new devices though. lamewing, you would still need some program that would be able to rip tracks to atrac, like sonicstage or something else, but SS is dead now, and sony didn't want to connect the new players with SS anymore. SS was not a great program, and atrac is not supported anywhere, except in older sonys. removing SS and atrac was the best move by sony in years.
-
so, let me get this straight, no drag and drop? next, it looks like an iphone, but has no phone option? sucks for people who bought an iphone next, gapless can always be added with a firmware upgrade on the new units, seeing as probably the chip inside the new sony's supports it. 16 gigs is nice but once that touch screen starts loosing sensitivity.... lol 160 gigs? O_o, no one will listen to that much music ever. anyways congrats to you on your new decision and apple, but apple nor any other company will have the sound and quality as sony has.
-
no there isn't, if a firmware update was all that was needed, then sony would have not released new players.
-
Well checking sonystyle.ca, it looks like the original 8 gig A808 is out of stock now, meaning the older players will be slowly phazed out over time. I just hope the newer player get here soon, the 8xx models I mean.
-
all complilations are mixed and therefore must be ripped using a gapless option. bow if cue files worked with the player, then that would be awesome. any idea how hard it would be to make a modification to the firmware in order for gapless support or even support for other codecs to be available?
-
lol if it did, that would be a kicker for apple.
-
thanks for the effort aznbro85, really appreciated, any idea what playlists work on teh player? if it will be wmp ones, then that will suck bad.
-
open up winamp, drop in x number of mp3s in it, save the playlist somwhere, its in the playlist, bottom right hand corner, list opts, press it, save the list and then drag the mp3s and the playlist over to the device, and see if the playlist will work, if it does, then it means the files will play. also trying ripping gapless using itunes into aac. or rip the cd to wma gapless.
-
do you know if winamp playlists work on the device?

here's the thing, if a firmware flash was all that was needed to upgrade the older 800s, then sony could have just released that and continue production of the 800s, but production was stopped for some reason. It is possible that the New 8xx series has new chips in it? or better flash or something that would not allow firmware upgrades of the 800s? Although I am sure if sony wanted to, they could provide a firmware upgrade but decided against it. the only way to compare it, would be to buy an older 800 and the new one, and open them up and compare components or somehow acquire the service manuals for both units the 800's on sonystyle are the last of the lot, and will be phazed out once the new units arrive, probably disappear from the site once all the new 600s are in stock.
-
2 gig model only for now, but good news is the price remains unchanged, expect arrival date is sept 26th. LuLu have you noticed a lot of errors on the sony website? they mention the name NWZ610F in the 815B page. Multi-formats? No problem Multi-Codec support opens up the world of downloads Not sure which audio files will work? Not a problem. The Sony Walkman® NWZS610F series is PlaysForSureTM certified and supports all major formats (codecs) including MP3, AAC*, WMA and WAV. *supports non-copy right protected files only lol
-
don't you mean the 600 series? the 800 series is the same thing as the older a800s and the buttons are not under the surface but on the surface. akasan, can you do a quick test on speed of transfer? take 100 or 200 megs of mp3s and transfer them over using windows explorer and time the process?

Petition to sony asking for WMP update firmware for walkman users!
Ascariss replied to veggiemusician's question in Audio
your logic has a flaw, since all of sony's mp3 players can play aac and mp3, meaning you can find stores online or buy cds and rip them to mp3 to use on your mp3 player. sony will just direct you to sites that sell non drm music files. a8xx has stopped production, the new a81x are soon shipping later on in the fall on sonystyle canada. if sony was planning to release a firmware to remove SS from the older units, why would they release new mp3 players that are just updated A800s? makes no sense. if it is something inside the unit that can't be reprogrammed, then it makes sense, if it is on purpose to gain more sales, shame on sony, regardless of the reason, no new players would have been released if only a firmware upgrade was needed. -
http://www.sonystyle.ca/commerce/servlet/P...th=46881n100363 Music playback function Supported Audio Formats MP3 / WAV / WMA / AAC No atrac support. sony has hinted at dropping drm and software, therefore sonicstage and atrac, there is no suprise here. as there being nothing wrong with it? perhaps if you encode directly to atrac, but re encoding mp3 to atrac is useless and stupid, no other stores except sony's sold atrac I never used atrac on my sony, except the minidiscs, but that is because I had to there, all my files on my sony's are now mp3 and always will be. drm for the suck.
-
I don't see how you didn't catch all the hints sony was dropping that they would be moving away from atrac and software to transfer music, we've known this for at least 2-3 months now.
