  1. Maybe a Sony exec saw some of the old MZ-N510, MZ-N505s etc that are currently for sale in some of the shops in Sydney and thought this is the ideal place to unload any old MD units.
  2. The Download button on the MZ-DH710 activates SimpleBurner without its normal panels showing after a CD has been ID'd by the music database. A small notification pops up over the system tray if you need to change any settings. So hitting the download button causes SimpleBurner to run in the background and copy the CD to a minidisc. This means that you don't see any track listing or indication that the database has correctly identified the CD. There is no indication of how far the transfer is progressing only a noise when completed. If there is not enough room on the MD for the whole CD then it did not transfer any songs across ! You then have to open up the SB control panels and select the individual songs to transfer across which sort of defeats the purpose of having the button. I hope Sony did not spent a lot of time on this feature.
  3. Yes the manual mentions that. None of my other MDs need a download button for Simple Burner to work. I think it was a redundant button with no lin-in on this model so Sony decided to give it some sort of function rather than make it blank. I might experiment with it over the weekend to see what it does. It could be used as a hardware initiated startup for SB ...
  4. Thanks I could see the line from your photos but not the DC in connection. Seems Sony loves to complicate their production lines with slight physical variations on its models. I suppose it saves them trying to put an AC adaptor into the packaging for this model. They did not even include a battery with the DH710 however there was an old style 1GB minidisc but in a normal size case not that silly long HiMD one. The compliance plate on the back is a little different to your one; saying made in Mayalsia to Canandian electrical standards. There is also a little blue sticker on the front " MP3 Digital music player" The other difference is your Record/track mark button has been replaced with a download button. I'm sure of the usefulness of this yet.
  5. doomlordis, I just rec'd an MZ-DH710 from Minidisc Canada after ordering on 9Aug - pretty good service only 6 days to arrive in Australia. The black shiny surface makes it look very sophisticated not like my MZ-NH600 even though they are almost identical in size. Does your RH710 have on 3V DC in connector on the bottom ? The DH710 has the notch but no actual socket hole.
  6. ronca79, If you are feeling very brave you could try consulting the service manual for the N505. It is down near the bottom of the page under "Minidisc Service Manuals" not the User manuals so you can see which parts MDX-400 refers to but take note of the warning that you could disable your Minidisc in service mode. http://www.minidisc.org/part_Manuals.html As you were importing MP3, could some of them be encoded slightly differently to to the earlier ones? I've had a few which would not transfer across via SonicStage but that is slightly different from your problem where the seem to transfer but are unplayable. Try erasing one of those new discs and then recording or transferring some completely different music or albums on to it.
  7. Ronca79, Try the MD head/lens cleaner first, it is cheaper than a new MD recorder. I think head or lens is the same thing for MD equipment. As A440 said they look just like a minidisc. Have you tried a different brand of blank MD. Are you recording from a CD or importing MP3s ? If you are importing the songs to Sonic Stage (3.2 is the latest) have you tried listening to the songs on your PC to see if the later ones are ok.
  8. Were you using SonicStage or SimpleBurner to transfer the record/CD? Normal(SP) or LP2. Perhaps you could try using the other software method to see if the problem is still there. There several brands of MD head and lens cleaners available such as Sony, TDK and Crest. One of those may help.
  9. Any ideas on when there will be a 3rd gen announcement......maybe Jan2006 ?

After a few weeks these good pretty good for the price. The sound feels clear and natural so they can be used for extended periods without a fatigue that you have with some other earphones. Perhaps they won't appeal to those who listen to music with the loudness switch permanently on. I've found that the volume needs to be set a little higher than with the standard minidisc 'phones. The plug style earpieces reduce outside sound pretty well while keeping sound leakage to an absolute minimum and are fairly comfortable too. The main cause of concern is the cord which feels like 2.5m instead of 1.5m and I've used a plastic tie to bundle it up near the plug to the remote. The cord also transmits sounds if it rubs across your coat collar. The cord really needs a little more insulation on it. Unfortunately the store only had white which apart from making me feel like an iPlonker shows up the dirt easily. In summary: still happy with the purchase.
  11. Don't know why but the asymmetric cords always seem to tangle up. Maybe cause I'm left handed. And the short side is usually about 10-5cm too short anyway.
  12. I too have followed that thread with alarm but the recent appearance of the MZRH-10/910 in Sony Singapore & Malaysia & the 910 in NZ does raise some faint hope. Perhaps the next Pulse magazine will bring some joy.
  13. Same here, the MD is in the backpack with the remote clipped on the adjustment strap. I have a pair of MRR-D22s and they came with a 1m extension cord and I think that the MDREX71SL also have an extension cord. I know that these are somewhat expensive earphones but perhaps those that have a problem with their earphone cords being too short could try extension cords.
  14. Teralus, This just shows Sony's bizzare approach to marketing their products around the world; that you could obtain the higher spec MZ-RH10 from overseas for less than the Mz-RH910. Don't they realise that the internet makes it easy to compare the overseas prices. I'd like to support local retailers when I can but Sony's pricing structure actively discourages that. For instance the MDR-NX1 earphones have an RRP of $49.95 (or around $54AUS) in USA while here in Australia it is $129. Interestingly MDREX81SL also have a USA rrp $49.95 but the Australian rrp is $119.00, why the $10 difference ?
  15. Sony NZ now has a silver MZ-RH910S $549.95NZ ($494AUS) http://www.sony.co.nz/walkman/product.asp?ssid=639282560 The price looks rather high compared to the RRP in US $199.95US ($260AUS) or HongKong $1798HK ($301AUS) Which makes it hard to understand why there are still no 2nd Generation Hi-MD units released in Australia. Perhaps it is payback for Australia's stance on Whaling.
  16. iTunes can copy tracks from "CopyControl CDs". Check the options to see where it stores the files. After which you can import them into SonicStage.
  17. It is a Realplayer video describing the MZ-M100 & MZ-M10 minidisc players (sounded more like a C instead of a Z to me). These are the recorders mentioned on 14Jul2005 @ http://www.minidisc.org/. Also talks about a special recording bundle to be released just after the recorders.

JVC HA-FX55w Specifications: Frequency Response: 5Hz - 24,000Hz Nominal Impedance: 14ohm Sensitivity: 95dB/1mW Max. Input: 20mW Driver Unit: 8.5mm http://www.jvc-australia.com/products/_pro...ils.asp?ID=1383 Yesterday at JBL-HiFi I noticed these JVC earbuds @ $37AUD which have specs very similar (in terms of FreqResponse) to the Sony MDR-EX51, MDR-EX71 & Panasonic RP-HJE50 but half the price. They come with three sizes of buds which are in this case white to match the phones. The cord however has that cheap twice cable look about it. So far I've been quite impressed with their natural sound compared to the "forced" sound of my MDR-EX51s.
  19. In Australia it seems there is an oversupply of the HiMD blanks and hardly any HiMD recorders. So I suspect the dealers are just trying to get rid of them eg Minidisc Aust is offering a stand for free with 20. A few years ago Sony was selling 5 MD packs with a nice free plastic stand.
  20. If you select the picture it tries to download a zip file of about 4-5 pictures of the RH910. Interestingly the MZNHF800 has a rrp of $499NZ same as the Australian rrp so it would be slightly cheaper ($449.36AUD) in real terms. But the same can't be said for the HiMD blanks at $14.95NZ ($13.47AUD) compared to $4.95AUD at SonyAustralia.
  21. It is hard to imagine what the problem is at Sony Australia. It is not a secret that there are 2nd Gen Hi-MD units for sale around the world and anybody with an interest in them would be aware by using the internet. There are no major Hi-MD competitors either so what is the big deal ! Sony Aust just says that there is no details available on the release of this product and to keep checking their website (which has to be one of the slowest around). Why to the Sony staff appear to have so little knowledge of what they sell is it just an act or lack of interest. Some staff in other shops eg JBL-HiFi seem to go to Sony product information sessions. The sooner they release 2nd Gen HiMDs in Australia the sooner people will start buying them. Or are they intending to release the PSP, NWE405/7 & NWE505/7s all at the same time ? It feels like Sony actually goes out of its way to frustrate its customers (and dealers).
  22. Perhaps you could try upgrading to Sonic Stage 3.1 see the linkis at the top of the forum. (NB - I had to try installing it twice before it worked).
  23. Neither the CD itself or case cover seems to have any indication that this Sony/BMG disc has any enhancement. Atleast this indicates an acceptance of the CD producers that people who purchase the music may want to transfer it to MD or some or device and have done something to help the process. Maybe they just took pity on us trying to type Spanish song titles. I wonder if Fijacion Oral Vol2 which is in English will have the same titling embedded?
  24. If you've been able to rip the CD tracks using WM10 have you tried importing those files into Sonic Stage's library ? I've also found that iTunes is able to rip CD tracks that Sonic Stage cannot, such as those remastered DavidBowie albums and even CopyControlCDs. Then Transferred those files into SS's library and then moved them onto a Minidisc. Also have you tried using SimpleBurner to transfer the CD tracks straight onto your MDs ?
  25. I recently purchased the new Shakira album and noticed that when I loaded it up into Sonic Stage 3.1 all the song titles became populated even though the PC wasnot connected to the internet. Do Sony music CDs now have the song titles embedded in them for sonic stage to read?
