I'm waiting for Sony to announce that they've thrown in the towel on personal audio and will just sell re-badged iPods.

The DH10P Review by The Blue Raja
bogon07 replied to theblueraja's topic in Product Reviews/Pictorials
Well thanks to theblueraja (and richyhu and stuge) I'm now waiting for the DH10P to be delivered from etronics. One thing to remember when ordering in foreign currency is that your exchange may vary between ordering and the charge hitting the credit card. In my case a bit of a worry when it was forecast that the Australian $ may drop to 68cents US. $313.14 US --> $442.44AUD (+ $6.64AUD international transaction fee) making a total $449.08 for the DH10P. Paypal gave the option to convert US$ to AUD$ before charging my my credit card for about $452AUD so they must have a slightly higher transaction fee. -
Even more annoying is hearing the buggers even when you're wearing earphones.

Exactly. One minidiscs your recording are physical entities not just a file on the HD or flash player. Also you can give them nice covers too. I like having HiMD discs dedicated to the albums of a particular artist. Transfering parts of my CD & LP/cassette collection to MD also seems safer than putting a large portion on one HardDrive based player. If the HD player is lost, stolen or dies a lot of time an effort loading it is gone so there is less chance with your music spread across many MDs. MDs are expandable just buy a new disc you don't have to delete any old songs to make space for new ones. Have occassionally used MDs to record in realtime music from a film soundtrack or a copycontrol CD. Or use the microphone to record birdcalls. I'd get the RH1 if possible because it is a minidisc.

Happy Birthday STUGE, Best wishes. You missed the eclipse by one day. Hope you get an RH1 as a belated present.

As Richyhu says depends on what you are going to get. For Minidisc units you should not have any trouble with the USB connection to you PC which will power the unit. Your main concern with be the DC adaptor. Some dealers sell WorldTouristModels and if they are like my NHF800, come with a very large plug unit with a voltage selector and a plug pin coverter to fit the power point.

TBR about time you updated the list of MDs that you own How many are in your collection now ? I think you've a ways to go before you catch Ishiyoshi. Thanks everyone. The Etronics price appears to be around $50AUD better than importing via Minidisc Canada. I see what you mean about the black DH10P from Audiocubes $670AUD + shipping !!!! Even if it is a WorldTouristModel with LED remote. -

Is Sony Missing a Beat By Not Offering Hi-MD Options?
bogon07 replied to Christopher's topic in News
A car unit for those who want it. Anything to raise awareness of Minidisc. There really is a need for a HiMD deck and or a decent mini/bookshelf system with HiMD. -

That is probably the same thinking Sony used to. But a colour display remote wouldn't be a crazy as some of Sony's ideas although it would probably drain the battery too fast. Stuge, I was interested to see what accessories Sony was unbundling with the top unit. You can't have too many remotes. Buying remotes separately in Australia is very expensive. Remember there is no law that says you have to use them with the player they came with (except the MC39LT for NHF800). I carry my MD players in my backpack when going to work so an LCD remote is very useful. However i'm lately using the A1000 in the pocket with or without a MC35ELK; just noticed that my NH900 came with an MC38EL will have to test that on the A1000! $228 US seems an excellent price for the DH10P. Can you say where from ? I've been eyeing Minidisc Canada. -
Oh we'll just keep hoping to see the RH1 here via Minidisc Australia. I think we'd be better off here if Sony Australia just closed down and SonyJapan sent stock directly here (eg World Tourist models). Sadly Sony Australia doesn't seem to want to know how many HiMD recorders have been imported privately into Oz or even what the current demand is.

RH1 in Blue with a blue MC-55 remote and a battery pack.
-
Sony owes Minidisc Australia a big favour for unloading all those old HiMD units so maybe they will get a batch of RH1s to sell in Australia. Sefu, any possibility of Minidisc Australia stocking them ?

Two silver ...... nice bookends. I think richyhu mentioned the Red as a limited Japan SonyStyle only edition. The black looks good but not for twice the price. If only there was a Blue one. Did they come with an LCD or non-LCD remote ? -

Well yes unfortunately that seems to be the case (I think it is pay back over whaling). The 2nd Gen Hi-MDs were never released here. But late last year Sony dumped thousands of 1st Gen Hi-MDs here via Minidisc Australia and other retailers so there is still the remote hope that the same may happen with the 2G Hi-MDs. Perhaps when the MZ-RH1 is released to the rest of the world. Are both your DH10Ps the same colour or were you lucky enough to nab a red or black one too? -

Great pics, Theblueraja. You are building up quite a collection of MD units. Love the idea of seeing the album artwork on screen. As you say it re-affirms that you own the actual item or once did or copied it from someone and then downloaded the picture. And it is nice seeing the tiny little pictures in SonicStage too. With all the model variations that Sony have, it is a mystery why they didn't do a DH10P model without the camera. It is one of the best looking Hi-MDs around. Now have to hope Sony to dumps 2ndGen Hi-MDs in Australia. I still think the black DH710 has a certain chunky elegance about it (as long as it is not sitting next to a DH10P). -
They all have an appeal. My last MD was the a NH900 with black face plate from the Minidisc Aust Sale. Unfortunately the black NH900 seemed only available when the HiMDs were first released and quickly sold out. Actually I quite like the look of the "grey" NH900 (prototype?) in the Minidisc.org browser section. However I do have a black Canadian DH710 which looks great so I do have some colour affinity. Or is black the absence of colour?
-
I thought the MZ-EH1 was the love of your life ! Congrats on the new DH10P. What colour is it ?
-
Most of the MD remotes will turn the recorder on or off by pressing the play or stop buttons, the MC35 does. I think the MC40 has some recording functions.
-
Sete, Sorry to hear about that. I suppose your RH10 is around a year old ? Could the RH10 still be used with an LED remote like a RM-MC35elk? (obviously you would want Sony to fix the OLED). Can't recall Sony stating the display life of the OLED anywhere. Hopefully more than a year. Makes you wonder about Sony's E400/500 & A1000/3000/600 OLED Walkmen too.

And then another glass after you slosh some more over the keyboard and mouse, then another after you knock over the glass while trying to cleanup the first spill

What constitutes a softish wall ? Most of the ones I've walked into have been rather hard. Going near electrical stuff with Coke or coffee is just asking for trouble, caffine and sugar just love circuits and switches. Using the MD recorder to anything more that basic track marking is so tedious. If you are at home it is much easier to transfer the file to a PC either directly or via Xitel USB and use PC software to to split and clean up the tracks. And as dex Otaku suggests you aren't editing your master file.

Nice pictures. Does it still work ?

$27.6 Million CDN Distributed to Canadian Musicians Due to Tax
bogon07 replied to Christopher's topic in News
Yet another example of a noble but flawed concept hijacked by vested interests like the government and record industry who end up benefiting more than the artists. I suspect that the higher tax applied to MDs is due to them being perceived as a type of elitist luxury item. eg If you can afford to buy one of the MD recorders then you can afford to pay a bit more tax.
