  1. Last year I saw a new one in Lanzarote (Canary Islands). (along with an Aiwa FM80!). I'm going back next February, and if I can find it I'm tempted to buy it. I'm pretty sure the price was the original one, so I'm not paying that sort of money, but maybe they'd do a deal just to get rid of it.
  2. Have you had a look at the Help file in SonicStage? It's quite comprehensive. Alternatively, print out the relevant pages from the RH1 manual In my copy, the relevant pages for SS and Simple Burner are 23 - 29. If it fails to answer any specific questions, ask here!
  3. At first sight quite interesting, but to a tight-arse like me the starting price of 40UKP plus postage spoils it a bit, especially when you don't know his tastes in music.
  4. Apologies - too much wine and jumping to conclusions too quickly.
  5. So why does the last-but-one photo on AtracLife's page show a Hi-MD disc in the MD module?
  6. I don't know where you live, but in the UK Amazon still has several RH1s to sell you, and Amazon.com in the US has the MZM200 here:http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MZM200-Professi...7047&sr=8-1
  7. Have you tried upgrading to Version 5? I believe 5.35 is the latest update. I have no idea if it will fix your problem, but maybe it's worth trying.
  8. Sorry to disagree with you, but the whole point is that you cannot put track marks on a track which has been imported from the PC. You can delete or move tracks, but not divide or combine them.
  9. And not just the sound - but to be able to move almost instantly from one track to another was incredible.
  10. See this recent thread for more discussion: http://forums.minidisc.org/index.php?showtopic=19729&hl=
  11. Don't know about the 55, but on the 40 you can. Just select Option, then Backlight and choose between Auto, On, or Off
  12. Thanks for the reply. I normally use either Winamp or Nero to burn CDs. However the version I have of Nero is the OEM version and I don't think ImageDrive is included. I'll have a look at Daemon tools tomorrow.
  13. Thanks, raintheory. Excuse my ignorance, but how do I do steps one and two in your previous post? Has someone here written a "walkthrough" for this procedure?
  14. You can delete tracks, and you can move (i.e. re-order) them, but you can't divide them. (Although, as I pointed out, you can do this if you have a MD deck.
  15. The simple answer is that you can't use any editing functions (except "Format") on the unit itself. You can only access them through the remote by holding down the jog dial for a couple of seconds. Have a look at Page 53 onwards in your manual.
  16. Ah, the old days of the End Search button. Can't remember how many recordings I lost by forgetting to press it, and I never could understand the logic of it anyway - if you want to start recording from the beginning of the disc, just erase all the current contents.
  17. ...and tends to encourage the unfortunate stereotype which some Brits have of Americans that they think the USA is the centre of (or indeed the only place in) the universe.
  18. Still available at Amazon UK - http://preview.tinyurl.com/36z7mu
  19. I'm just curious: If I import an MP3 to SonicStage then transfer it to my RH1 in LP2 format, I am unable to divide the track on the RH1, getting the message "Track from PC No Edit". If I then put the disc in my ageing JB940 deck I can divide the track with no problems. It's therefore no big problem for me, but I can imagine for someone who had only a portable, there might be circumstances when they would want to trim the beginning or end of the track and be unable to. So does anyone know whether it's a limitation of the technology or is it still a bit of DRM which Sony refuse to let go of. If it's the latter it seems particularly pointless.
  20. Hi Feeder, A couple of questions for you: Firstly, I record a lot of radio programmes on my Sony Deck (JB940) while I'm out at work, by plugging it into an electronic timer. Is there any way of doing this (a) if I bought the Onkyo Hi-MD deck on its own and plugged it into my existing Hi-Fi system; or (b ) if I bought both units. Secondly, as I see you're also in the UK, can you tell us how much you paid for the equipment and did you buy it in the UK?
  21. I bought my "reserve" RH1 last week from my local Sony Centre (UK). They had to order it in, as they were out of stock and didn't seem to have it as a permanent stock item, but the assistant wasn't aware that it was about to be discontinued. But then my impression is that they aren't told very much by Sony in advance of decisions being made.
  22. Sony are OK with you connecting via USB, but what the previous poster asked was whether your USB cable goes directly to a socket in the computer or whether it goes to a USB hub. If it's the latter, try connecting directly to the computer and see if that makes any difference.
  23. I don't know whether I should be congratulated or scolded for taking possession today of a second RH1. It's just that it seems like it's the last MD model and if anything happened to my current one, I'd kick myself if I couldn't get hold of a replacement. Anyway it's now stored safely in the attic until such time as it's needed. Just don't tell my girlfriend - I don't think she'd understand.
  24. I've had this happen to me about three times over the last few months. Each time I've panicked a bit - ejected the battery; ejected the disc, plugged in the USB lead and so on until it eventually springs back to life, so I'm not really sure what's going on. Next time it happens, I'll try to be a bit more analytical and make a note of what I was doing before it "died" and what action brought it back to life again.
