i bought a crate of 50 about 4 years ago and they are fine, i fdound 10 discs in the same box that had defects on the discs thoug but they still worked. When u look close up you see what look like bumps and bouble son the omorpheous surphase of the disc, but it's probably on the inside and wont effect the head. for that price u cant expect much more Leon

i had the very same issue as you! I live in australia though and finding a MD car player here was intensly dificult(when i did, Sony quated me $800 so i told them to go and use that deck up their ...) Anyway, the sony MDLP decks are pretty nice, i cheked these out live: http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/B...6019538-2276661 I also played with an alpine model, but it was double DIN(two slots in the cars panel instead of one) and it was only MD-SP and MONO, and it was close to $1000AU...so na! Best bet is to find a NEW Sony deck, they are good, and make sure you get someone who knows what their doing to install it for you, trust me on that one! no matter how much of a car gury you may think you are , its best to let a pro do it. There are a few UK online shops that sell these units to overseas, but expect them to be slightly pricy-er. Goodluck! Leon

Hi all, i live in melbourne australia! i have recently been burgled, if anyone sees the following 2 units on ebay or similar please repotrt them to the police or to me asap: 1 Sony MZ-n910 Net-MD Minidisc Recorder -silver, with no wear marks -serial number 0170159 1 JVV\C XM-R700 MDLP Minidisc Recorder -silver, wery worn, in not to great working condition also 2 guitars and my amp went missing! but tahts for another board! When i took a road trip in New Zealand with some friends, the rental company gave us a Camper van that whilst beeing in total working order, had a real shitty stereo. I used the little White Belkin FM trasmitter, works on 1Xaaa battery and lasted fro days! Kept us going!! Leon

i use a Behringer valve preamp but for guitar to MD. I find that using a mic with it makes it sound way to ...big sounding. Leon

I get that feeling everytime, when im on the train and get my MD out to change a disc! almost everyone turns and lokos at my walkman as the disc slides out, and i slide in a new one! And all you see from the ipod "wearers" is a blank expression.... I paid $700AU fo rmy mz-n910 about 2 years ago, didnt even question the price, untill i saw the HI-mds start comming out, and then never been able to find one in a shop, never bought one! but things will change! i have a similar problem with my mz-n910, when i change trakcs on my remote sometimes it goes spastic all ove rthe place, sometimes from a certain track number it just goes back to track 1 and turns all the audio options and shuffle on. drives me crazy! if anyone has a fix please tell us! Leon

i have to say, sony has once again put their foot in it! I was soo hoping that the PSP would have a normal HI-MD disc, i mean it would kill anythign on the market if you coudl use it as a game machine, walkman, recorder etc... Leon

Does this mean, all the local(AU) retailers are going to be selling MD nuit out the door for any price!!! Im goign to go down to a few JBHIFI stores and some more to see this for myself! I gota say that, this was comming for a long time, ever since the iPod came out i have feared that i will no longer be able to get any mor md STUFF. so to all i offer some advice which i took myself along time ago: If you still like and are plannign on using the MD format then do as follows: -Buy as many Blank mds as you can, worst case scenario they will be easialy sold on ebay if you dont need them(i have a stock of 100 or so 80min discs) -If you have a MD unit which takes weird battereis like the sony gum sticks, buy as many of them BUT NEW AND PACKAGED as you can, i have found the NIMH stick slast about 2 years before serious degredation occurs -Buy a PLAYER unit or maybe 2 and dont use it to record, use the recording unit PURELY to record. I might sound like im planning for the armageddon of MD, its a bit drastic, but if MD is goign to be dead, well then what can i do!? Leon

when ever i go i usualy go up to one of the organizers or who ever is in charge and ak them if it ok to record the show. They iether say no, or dont say anything, in which case i record it! Leon

Bluetooth headphones would have to use the next gen bluetooth version to get full stereo with 0 loss, which woudl be totaly kick ass. I would so buy one if it had bluetooth headphones! current bluetooth audio is pertty crapy, try it with a bluetooth headset and a bluetooth computer, its like listening to music through your mobile. As for teh remote, thats a good idea, but it would make things a bit expensive, awsome, but expensive, and MD doesnt need to get any more expensive Leon

i remmebr these, it was in the sony shop for years in melbourne, was like $800 au i kept on trying to bargain the guys down every month!! but yeah you could only record SP and MONO onto it, it wasnt LP compatible and, but you could put data on it, all 175 meg! heheh Leon

what you can do is this: if you can bare recording each instrument in mono, then make yourself a stereo mic and and place the left Mic near one instrument, and the right Mic near the other, that way you get 2 tracks. the other way is if you get a mixer, Behringer makes a reall good value mixer for like $100AU or so, cheaper at awn shops that allows you to plug about 3 or 4 strereo inputs(mics) into one recording point(your md) Behringer Uerorack UB802 the later is more expensive, the earliere is cheap but not as good! 20X zoom, tahts awsome!! man id buy that! Bluetooth would be awsome on an MD but of little use, the tranfer speed is soooo slow! I love the new models here pretty cool!! Leon
